Chapter 152: Extra Chapter 1 Gu Yan × Shen Yanhui Wedding
Extra Chapter 1 Gu Yan × Shen Yanhui Wedding
The wedding was set for early summer.
Yang Bing spent half a year picking the date, finally settling on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month. Her reasoning was that six-six meant everything would go smoothly—it was auspicious.
Gu Yan and Shen Yanhui naturally had no objections.
Gu Fanglin did, but he had no say at home, so he agreed with a sense of grievance.
Gu Lin was the most excited, volunteering to be the emcee, only to be glared back by a look from Gu Yan: "If you're the emcee, I'm afraid my wedding will turn into a talk show!"
"You little girl, how can you talk about your brother like that?" Gu Lin was unconvinced and looked at Shen Yanhui, "Brother-in-law, keep your wife in check!"
Shen Yanhui glanced at him, as if looking at a fool.
As the wedding drew near day by day, Yang Bing acted as if facing a great enemy. From the floral materials for the bouquet to the length of the veil, from the menu pairings to the seating arrangements for guests, she insisted on overseeing everything.
Gu Fanglin was even worse; his anxiety and nervousness were written all over his face.
Originally, Gu Yan had been quite calm, but seeing the two elders like this, she couldn't help but be infected, and inexplicably began to feel nervous herself.
"Shen Yanhui."
"Hmm."
"I'm a little nervous."
Shen Yanhui looked up from his documents and saw the young girl slumped listlessly on the sofa, looking completely wilted.
He put down the documents, walked over, and sat down beside her.
"Nervous about what?"
She turned over and buried her face in his lap.
"I don't know, I'm just nervous. My mom asks every day, and my dad asks too, asking until I feel like this whole thing is a huge deal."
He raised his hand and gently stroked her hair.
After a few seconds, he suddenly spoke: "Then stop thinking about it for now."
Before she could even ask what he meant, she was already scooped up into his arms.
Later, she truly had no energy left to think.
He scattered all her wild thoughts, scattering them into broken moans and fingers clutching at his back.
Afterwards, she curled up in his arms, unable to even open her eyelids, her mind a complete blank.
What wedding, what schedule, what length of veil—she forgot it all.
He lowered his head and kissed the top of her hair: "Still nervous?"
She punched him weakly.
This man was truly something; his way of resolving her nervousness was actually to turn her over and over, until she was sore all over, until she could fall asleep from exhaustion the next second.
However, she really didn't have the energy to be nervous anymore.
——
On the day of the wedding, the weather was unbelievably good. The sun wasn't harsh, and the wind wasn't strong—it was just right.
The venue was chosen in a private manor in the Beijing Suburbs; at the end of the lawn was a lake, shimmering and sparkling like crushed gold scattered across the ground.
Gu Yan stood at the entrance, looking at that long red carpet.
Suddenly, she wasn't nervous anymore.
Because at the end of the red carpet, Shen Yanhui was standing there.
He was wearing a black suit, his hair combed meticulously, looking toward this side. It was too far to see his expression clearly, but she knew he was looking at her.
The music started.
She took Gu Fanglin's arm and walked forward step by step.
Halfway there, she saw Shen Yanhui move. He walked forward a few steps to meet them, then stopped.
In that instant, she suddenly wanted to laugh.
So, he could be impatient too.
Gu Fanglin placed her hand into Shen Yanhui's palm, his eyes slightly red.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but found his throat blocked by something. A thousand words were stuck there, finally turning into a firm squeeze.
The force was heavy, carrying all of a father's unspoken exhortations.
Shen Yanhui gripped Gu Yan's hand tightly and said solemnly to Gu Fanglin: "Don't worry, Dad."
Three words, spoken with weight.
Gu Fanglin nodded and turned to walk down.
After two steps, he raised his hand and quickly wiped the corner of his eye.
Yang Bing saw it clearly from below.
When Gu Fanglin sat back down beside her, she leaned over and lowered her voice: "Cried?"
Gu Fanglin glared at her: "No."
"I saw it all."
"You saw wrong."
Yang Bing curled the corners of her mouth, not exposing him further, just gently holding his hand.
Gu Yan on the stage wasn't doing much better; she also saw the moisture in her father's eyes, and her nose soured, nearly shedding tears.
She bit her lip, trying desperately to hold it back.
But the more she held it back, the more she wanted to cry.
She pouted and turned to look at Shen Yanhui beside her.
He was standing right next to her, his gaze fixed on her the whole time. Seeing her expression, he didn't speak.
He simply released her hand suddenly, raised his hand to clasp the back of her neck, pulled her closer, and lowered his head to plant a kiss on her lips.
A chorus of gasps erupted from the audience below.
The emcee stood frozen in place, microphone held halfway up, not knowing what to say; the segment for the groom to kiss the bride hadn't arrived yet, so why were they kissing already?
However, the two people on stage were both big shots he couldn't afford to offend, so he decided to let them have their fill of kissing first.
Gu Fanglin had just wiped the corners of his eyes, and the moment he looked up and saw this scene, he froze completely.
Yang Bing laughed out loud beside him.
Gu Lin shouted at the top of his lungs: "Brother-in-law! Well done!"
Sheng Ze let out a whistle.
Zhou Wei curled his lips for once and turned his head to look at Fang Qinru. Fang Qinru leaned on his shoulder, smiling gently.
The entire wedding venue was completely set ablaze by this sudden kiss.
Gu Yan was left dazed by his kiss, and by the time she reacted, he had already let her go, his forehead resting against hers.
His voice was low, audible only to her: "Don't cry."
She blinked, tears still hanging on her eyelashes, feeling somewhat bewildered.
Shen Yanhui suppressed the urge to kiss her again and raised his hand to wipe away her tears: "Better now?"
Gu Yan came back to her senses, her face suddenly turning red.
She glared at him and whispered: "Better."
Only then did he straighten up, resuming that calm and detached air, as if the person who had just kissed her so recklessly wasn't him.
The emcee finally found his voice again: "Um... bride and groom, shall we... shall we continue?"
Gu Yan's face turned even redder.
When it came to the ring exchange segment, Shen Yanhui picked up the diamond ring that had been custom-made half a year in advance and slowly slid it onto Gu Yan's ring finger.
It was only at this moment that Gu Yan realized this man, who appeared to have everything planned and under control, was far less composed than he let on.
His hand was trembling.
Gu Yan looked up in surprise, crashing into a pair of pitch-black eyes, the tenderness in their depths seemingly capable of drowning a person.
She curled her lips: "Shen Yanhui, you're trembling."
"I'm not."
Clearly just as nervous, yet still stubborn.
Gu Yan suddenly stood on her tiptoes and whispered in his ear: "It's okay, I'm trembling too."
He looked down at her.
Sunlight fell upon her face, and she smiled with her eyes curved like crescents.
He thought, for every day in the future, she must remain this radiant.
The emcee waited for a while on the side, then finally spoke with a smile: "The groom may now kiss the bride."
Thunderous applause erupted throughout the venue.
Shen Yanhui raised his hands, gently cupping Gu Yan's face, but he didn't rush to kiss her, merely looking at her.
Gu Yan's heart hammered like thunder under his gaze.
What exactly is wrong with him?
He kisses when he shouldn't, yet when it's time to kiss, he's suddenly in no rush.
"What are you looking at? Stop looking!"
"Looking at my wife."
Gu Yan said, shy and annoyed: "Is that all you're doing?"
Shen Yanhui chuckled softly and finally kissed her deeply, carrying his overflowing love.
