Chapter 59: If You Aren't Sleeping, Let's Do Something Else
Gu Yan felt that she had been played by Shen Yanhui.
She did say he should treat her better, but she didn't mean for him to be this "good" in bed.
If this continued, she feared she might actually die of pleasure.
Having been in Lagos for three days, aside from going out on the first day, she had been too tired to even move for the remaining two.
As for art galleries or museums, she hadn't even caught a glimpse of their shadows.
In the evening, Gu Yan was curled up on the living room sofa flipping through an art book when Chang Su entered from outside.
"Madam, Sir has an emergency meeting tonight and may return very late. He asked you to have dinner first and not to wait for him."
Gu Yan lifted her eyes from the art book and blinked.
"Alright." She curved her lips, her voice light and breezy, "Let him be busy, don't worry about me."
Chang Su paused; Sir isn't coming back, and Madam is very happy?
How long have they been married, and his BOSS has already been cast aside?
A moment of silence for Sir.
Gu Yan was in a great mood, humming a tuneless little song as she ate her dinner at a leisurely pace. She cut the steak carefully, chewed the salad bit by bit, and finally drank half a bowl of cream of mushroom soup.
Chang Su was even more certain that his master had fallen out of favor.
After dinner, Gu Yan returned to the master bedroom early.
She closed the door.
"Click," she locked it.
Gu Yan leaned against the door panel, smiling brightly. Finally, she could get a good night's sleep.
Late at night, a faint sound came from the entryway.
Shen Yanhui walked into the foyer, his black suit jacket draped over his arm, his shirt collar unbuttoned by two buttons. The housekeeper emerged from the shadows and reported in a low voice: "Sir, Madam has already gone to sleep."
"Mm."
Shen Yanhui handed the suit to her and loosened his tie as he walked upstairs. The hallway was covered in thick carpet, completely absorbing the sound of his footsteps.
He gripped the master bedroom door handle and pressed down.
It didn't move.
It was locked.
Shen Yanhui's movements paused, and he raised an eyebrow. The dim wall lamp illuminated his profile, and he chuckled softly.
The little girl has learned to be clever.
But... it's not enough.
A moment later, the housekeeper handed the spare key to Shen Yanhui.
The key was inserted into the lock and turned gently.
"Click," the door opened.
Only one bedside lamp was on in the room, casting a small pool of warm yellow light. Gu Yan was sleeping in the center of the bed, curled into a tiny ball, the thin quilt covering her only to her waist.
She was lying on her side, her cheek buried in the goose-down pillow, her face flushed red from sleep.
Shen Yanhui stood by the bed for a while, then leaned over to brush the stray hairs from her eyelids.
Only then did he walk into the bathroom.
The sound of water trickled, very soft. Twenty minutes later, he walked out wiping his hair, with only a bath towel wrapped around his waist.
He lifted the quilt and climbed in.
Gu Yan sensed the familiar scent, turned over unconsciously, and automatically rolled into his arms. She nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck, found a comfortable position, and her breathing became steady and long once again.
Shen Yanhui wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her completely into his embrace, and lowered his head to press a light kiss to her hair.
A peaceful night's sleep.
Gu Yan slept until she woke up naturally and stretched comfortably.
Then she froze.
An arm was draped across her waist, and a warm chest was pressed tightly against her back.
Gu Yan: "...?"
Turning her head, Shen Yanhui's face was inches away.
The morning light outlined his high-bridged nose and sharp jawline; he looked a bit more languid while asleep.
This face—no matter how many times she saw it, her heart would skip a beat.
How could someone be so well-grown?
The arm around her waist tightened slightly. Shen Yanhui kept his eyes closed, pulling her more firmly into his arms, his voice a little raspy: "Don't move, sleep a while longer."
Gu Yan wouldn't have it, pinching his face, "How did you get in?"
Shen Yanhui caught her hand, stroking and playing with it, "Climbed through the window."
"You're lying to a ghost, this is the second floor."
"Mm, so it was a bit of a struggle to climb up."
"Shen Yanhui!"
"I'm here."
"I clearly locked the door!"
"You did." He admitted it frankly, then added in a measured tone, "But I have a key."
Gu Yan was choked for words.
She had forgotten that point; this house was his, so of course he had keys to every room.
Gu Yan deeply felt she had miscalculated and struggled to sit up. Shen Yanhui tightened his arm, pressing her back into his embrace with ease.
The morning physical reaction was obvious; through the thin fabric of her pajamas, Gu Yan felt it clearly.
She didn't dare to move for a moment.
"Don't fidget, sleep for another hour, then I'll take you to the modern art gallery."
"……You have nothing to do today?"
"Mm."
Gu Yan lay there for a while, but still felt no sleepiness. She carefully shifted her body, wanting to slip out of his embrace.
Unexpectedly, the man suddenly reached out and pressed her against himself.
"If you're not going to sleep, shall we do something else?"
——
In the end, of course, nothing happened; Shen Yanhui wasn't quite beastly enough to go that far.
He had specifically cleared his schedule today, intending to accompany Gu Yan as she toured Lagos. After all, tricking her into coming along on a business trip was, in the end, a bit of a grievance to her.
The car drove out of the gate and merged into the flow of traffic.
Gu Yan propped her head up to look at the street scene outside the window; it was a feeling different from most cities back home.
Come to think of it, it was a bit like Guangzhou in the nineties.
She watched for a while, then withdrew her gaze and nestled into Shen Yanhui's embrace. A husband's embrace—one should naturally enjoy it when there is the chance.
Shen Yanhui naturally held her tighter.
About an hour later, the car stopped in front of a white building.
After getting out of the car, Gu Yan noticed another SUV following behind, from which four Black bodyguards descended, wearing dark casual clothes with obvious bulges at their waists.
"Is it like this every time we go out?" she asked curiously.
"It's better to be cautious." He pushed the door open, "Come in."
The interior of the gallery was a high-ceilinged, pure white space, with natural light pouring in from the skylights to illuminate the exhibits inside.
Gu Yan was attracted by a streetscape collage made of old license plates and pulled Shen Yanhui over to stand before it.
The four bodyguards followed at a distance that was neither too close nor too far, ensuring they wouldn't disturb the two of them while still being able to provide protection the moment danger occurred.
"This is very interesting. Look, each license plate is from a different state, but put together, they form the skyline of Lagos." Gu Yan traced it with her hand.
Shen Yanhui followed her gaze; indeed, the faded license plates formed the outline of the city, and the rust had become the clouds.
"The artist is named Eko," he glanced at the label, "a local, thirty years old. This series of works sold for a high price in London last year."
"You know this?"
"Shen Corporation sponsored his debut exhibition."
Gu Yan turned her head to look at him; the sunlight fell from the skylight onto his shoulders, casting a soft glow over his cold, sharp profile.
"You understand art better than I thought," she said.
"No, it's that I understand you better than you imagine." He replied quite naturally.
Gu Yan's ears grew hot.
She couldn't help but glance at him; this man, how could he come up with such flirtatious words so effortlessly?
"Shen Yanhui, tell me honestly, have you really never been in a relationship?"
Shen Yanhui: "Doesn't it look like it?"
Gu Yan shook her head, "It doesn't; your lines for coaxing people are so practiced."
Shen Yanhui raised an eyebrow, "That only goes to show that when it comes to coaxing you, I am self-taught."
Arrogant!
Gu Yan ignored him and turned to look at the next piece.
There were not many visitors in the exhibition hall, seven or eight people scattered about. It was very quiet, with only footsteps and whispers.
The turn of events came without any warning.
"Bang!"
The sound of a gunshot exploded in the empty space, deafeningly loud.
