Chapter 80: Just Remarry

~7 min read 1,397 words

Gu Yan stood on the steps and suddenly understood why Shen Yanhui had been so angry when she had entered the police station.

The feeling of being kept in the dark was truly unpleasant.

Worry, irritation... all sorts of emotions were pent up in her chest.

She dialed Shen Yanhui's number; it rang for seven full rings, but no one answered.

The frustration pent up in her chest grew even stronger.

Taking a deep breath, she hung up and dialed Chang Su instead.

This time, it was answered quickly.

"Madam?" Chang Su's voice sounded somewhat surprised.

"Where is Shen Yanhui?" Gu Yan asked directly, getting straight to the point.

Chang Su paused for a moment: "Sir is in a meeting. If you have anything to say, I can relay it."

"He's injured, isn't he?"

There was silence on the other end of the line.

Chang Su was screaming internally; Sir had specifically instructed him not to tell Madam, so how on earth did she find out?

"Madam," he pondered for a moment, his voice very cautious, "about this matter... Sir did not want you to worry."

"So everyone else can know, but I'm the only one who can't?" Gu Yan was very angry.

Chang Su did not dare to respond.

"How is the wound?" Gu Yan asked.

"It has already been treated; there is no major issue."

"Who hurt him?"

"..."

Chang Su was on the verge of breaking into a cold sweat; on one side was Sir, and on the other was Madam—he couldn't afford to offend either of them.

Gu Yan did not make things difficult for him and sneered: "Put Shen Yanhui on the phone, right now, immediately."

Chang Su: "!!!"

It's over; judging by her tone, things were looking very bad.

He immediately headed toward the conference room, not daring to delay even a bit.

Inside the conference room, Shen Yanhui was frowning at the data on the projection screen.

Chang Su walked quickly to the head of the table and leaned down to whisper: "It's Madam's call."

Shen Yanhui raised his eyes, caught a glimpse of the nervousness in Chang Su's eyes, and understood about seventy or eighty percent of the situation. He took the phone and made a pause gesture to the high-ranking officials on the screen.

He leaned back in his chair, his expression softening: "Did you miss me?"

The unrepentant tone instantly ignited Gu Yan's temper.

"Shen Yanhui, do you think you're being really noble right now?" Her voice was cold, devoid of her usual petulance.

Before Shen Yanhui could speak, the young woman on the other end continued at a rapid pace:

"Seeing me act like a fool every day, asking after your well-being, do you get a real sense of accomplishment from that? Of course, Mr. Shen is so impressive; you can even lie to people while injured. Your acting is so good, do you want me to give you an award?"

Listening to her slightly angry voice, Shen Yanhui could even imagine her frowning and pursing her lips.

When she was angry, the small mole at the corner of her eye became even more prominent.

Full of delicate charm, vivid and alluring.

He wanted to kiss her, wanted to...

He tugged at his tie, picked up the water glass beside him, and took a sip.

He suppressed the restlessness in his heart.

"Speak, are you mute?" On the other end of the phone, Gu Yan grew even angrier when she saw he was silent.

"I'm listening to you," Shen Yanhui replied in a low voice. "Keep going, I'll wait for you to vent your anger."

Gu Yan: "..."

What to do? She didn't feel comforted at all; she was even angrier.

If he wanted her to talk, then she simply wouldn't.

Shen Yanhui sighed softly: "I'm fine. It's not a serious injury, and you are thousands of miles away; there was no need for you to worry."

Gu Yan muttered fiercely: "Not serious? You'd have to be in the ICU for it to be called serious!"

She paused, her voice suppressing fire: "Fine, keep hiding it if you want, it's not me who's in pain anyway. If you ever end up in some accident, I'll just remarry and find someone who won't lie to me—"

"Gu Yan." Shen Yanhui interrupted her, his voice sinking.

The young woman's ability to anger him was growing, and the things she said always stabbed right into his heart.

"Don't always say things like that to provoke me."

Gu Yan certainly knew she had gone too far, but...

She. Was. Very. Angry!

"I said it, what are you going to do about it?"

Shen Yanhui chuckled softly; it wasn't his usual laugh, and Gu Yan inexplicably felt it was a bit dangerous.

Through the receiver, his voice came across: "Then I'll lock you up and 【redacted】 you every day."

Gu Yan: "???"

She was momentarily too shocked to speak, even forgetting that she was angry.

No, how did it suddenly shift to an inappropriate channel?

She gritted her teeth and said: "Shen Yanhui, is that all you ever have in your brain?"

The man replied righteously: "Yes, but only for you."

Gu Yan: "..."

It felt like having nowhere to vent her frustration.

Shen Yanhui stopped while he was ahead, softening his voice as he said, "I'm really fine. If you don't believe me, do you want to see for yourself?"

"See what?"

"The wound," Shen Yanhui said. "Don't you disbelieve me? See it in person and confirm that I won't die."

Gu Yan choked on the other end of the phone.

A few seconds later, she replied stiffly, "Who cares to see it."

"You really won't look?"

"I won't!"

"Then never mind," Shen Yanhui said, feigning indifference. "I'll continue my meeting."

"Wait—" Gu Yan blurted out, then immediately shut her mouth.

Shen Yanhui waited.

"You..." Her voice grew smaller, awkward and hesitant. "Does the... wound... still hurt?"

This question was asked very softly, as light as a feather, scratching at the softest part of Shen Yanhui's heart.

The coldness in his eyes finally melted a little.

"It doesn't hurt anymore, it's almost healed," he said.

"Really?"

"Mm."

The other end of the phone was quiet for a while longer.

Then Gu Yan said, "Shen Yanhui, if you dare to keep things from me again next time..."

"Then what?"

"Then I'll..." She stalled, clearly having not yet thought of a bargaining chip for her threat.

Shen Yanhui let out a low laugh: "Then what will you do? Remarry?"

"That's right! Remarry! I'll marry someone who is more handsome, younger, and better at pampering me than you!" Gu Yan said, flustered and exasperated.

"Then you might have to wait a long time," Shen Yanhui said. "After all, I have a tough life; I won't be dying anytime soon."

Gu Yan: "..."

Shen Yanhui coaxed her for a while longer before hanging up the phone.

He tapped his fingers on the table, pondered for a moment, and called for Chang Su.

"Go arrange a plane to bring Gu Yan over."

Chang Su: "... Yes."

On the other side, after Gu Yan hung up the phone, she began looking at flight tickets to Paris.

Without seeing it with her own eyes, she simply couldn't rest easy.

Therefore, she hadn't asked on the phone how he had been injured; when she asked in person, she would be able to judge whether he was lying.

After all...

She thought about how both Fang Qinru and Chang Su were tight-lipped about the person who had injured him, and this matter was very suspicious.

Given Shen Yanhui's status, the person who could get close to him and injure him certainly wasn't simple.

She wanted to see exactly what kind of sacred being it was.

Gu Yan picked the nearest flight and was just about to pay.

"Madam."

A deep male voice came from beside her.

Gu Yan turned her head and saw a man wearing a black jacket standing two steps away. He looked very familiar; he was one of the bodyguards Shen Yanhui had left by her side.

"Sir has already arranged a plane, departing from the private terminal at seven o'clock tonight."

Gu Yan was stunned for a moment.

Immediately after, she gave a light "hmph" and tilted her chin slightly: "He knows what's good for him."
