Chapter 97: The Boss's Wife
Gu Yan looked through the clothes in her wardrobe for a long time before selecting an ivory-white lambskin motorcycle suit.
The short, sharp-cut leather jacket was paired with matching high-waisted straight-leg leather trousers, and on her feet were a pair of black suede ankle boots.
Her long hair was tied into a high ponytail, revealing a section of her fair, elegant neck, and two small diamonds adorned her earlobes—the only soft, delicate embellishment on her person.
When Shen Yanhui picked her up, his gaze faltered.
His eyes swept from her slender legs upward, landing on the snow-white skin at her waist, full of aggression.
He reached out a hand to her: "Let's go."
Gu Yan trotted over and naturally linked her arm through his.
Shen Yanhui took Gu Yan and her group directly to the Vortex racing team's pit garage, right next to the Ferrari, where personnel were coming and going, busy but orderly.
Seeing their boss, everyone stopped what they were doing in unison and nodded slightly: "Mr. Shen."
As their gazes swept over the striking Gu Yan beside him, flashes of amazement and curiosity crossed their eyes.
Gu Yan followed by Shen Yanhui's side, her chin slightly lifted, her posture natural. She surveyed this high-efficiency space and noticed that among the many staff members, there were also many women.
Kind of cool, she thought to herself.
However, what caught her attention more was the race car in the very center. The fluid carbon-fiber body, the massive rear wing, the dazzlingly complex steering wheel...
It really looked a bit like an oversized toy car.
Her eyes brightened, and she subconsciously tugged on Shen Yanhui's sleeve.
Shen Yanhui looked down at her; without needing to say a word, he understood and nodded: "Go ahead and touch it."
Gu Yan received permission and her eyes curved into crescents. She touched it lightly; she couldn't describe the texture, it was a bit peculiar.
She was very measured and quickly withdrew her hand.
She turned to Su Jin and whispered an invitation: "Sister-in-law, do you want to touch it too? The texture is so special."
Su Jin stood beside Gu Chen and shook her head with a smile. This Mr. Shen was truly indulgent toward Yan Yan without any bottom line.
Just then, the door to the driver's lounge opened.
A young driver wearing a racing suit walked out with long strides, followed by Gu Lin, who wore a look of worship.
Gu Yan's attention was drawn, and a flash of amazement crossed her eyes. The next second, her face was turned back; Shen Yanhui's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her with displeasure.
Getting jealous over this too? Is he the reincarnation of a vinegar jar?
Gu Yan grumbled inwardly, but still reached out to hug his waist: "Not looking, not looking, I'm only looking at you."
Shen Yanhui was satisfied and wrapped his arm around her waist to stake his claim.
Xu Zhouye carried his helmet and spotted the cold-looking Shen Yanhui at a glance; he raised an eyebrow, carrying his characteristic unruliness: "Yo, Big Boss Shen, what wind blew you here today to personally inspect the practice session?"
His gaze then fell on the face of Gu Yan beside Shen Yanhui, his eyes filled with a bit more playful curiosity: "Who is this? Not going to introduce us?"
Shen Yanhui's arm rested loosely behind Gu Yan's waist, and upon hearing this, he only lazily lifted his eyelids.
"Your boss's wife."
Gu Yan was stunned to the core by this overly blunt and slightly cheesy title, and she couldn't help but reach out and pinch him hard on the waist.
Shen Yanhui didn't change his expression as he held her hand, the corners of his mouth curling up ever so slightly.
Xu Zhouye made a "tsk" sound, then his smile widened, and he nodded at Gu Yan very knowingly, his tone familiar: "Hello, sister-in-law. I'm Xu Zhouye, working and slaving away for Boss Shen."
Gu Yan nodded generously: "Hello."
Xu Zhouye didn't chat further; the practice session had already started its timer, so he put on his helmet and sat in the cockpit. The engine roared to life, and the race car slid smoothly out of the pit garage.
Gu Yan watched the figure that disappeared almost instantly and gave a soft "wow": "It's... completely different from watching it on video."
She could roughly understand Gu Lin's fanaticism for racing; extreme speed brought a surge of adrenaline that was addictive.
After touring the pit garage, the staff led them toward the VIP viewing area.
The race cars roared past, the sound deafening.
Once the initial novelty wore off, Gu Yan soon found that staring at it for too long made her eyes tired, and besides... it was a bit boring.
She quietly took half a step back, leaning into Shen Yanhui's embrace, her fingers idly twirling his high-quality tie.
Shen Yanhui let her do as she pleased, his arm naturally encircling her.
"I heard Gu Lin is helping you vet new sponsors for the team?" Gu Chen suddenly spoke up.
Gu Lin, who had been leaning against the railing, was caught off guard by being named; his body stiffened, and he cast a look of distress toward Shen Yanhui.
Shen Yanhui's expression remained unchanged: "Yes, there are a few interested parties in contact, and we need to evaluate the compatibility."
He paused and added: "Of course, the Second Young Master Gu has a passion for racing, which is also a good perspective for observation."
Gu Chen nodded slightly, accepting this explanation.
Or rather, tacitly allowing the other party to use this reason to cover for Gu Lin.
Seeing this, Gu Lin breathed a sigh of relief.
It really takes a sister... brother-in-law to step in; he can make even the fake sound like the truth.
"For a team of this level, what is the annual pure operating investment range?" Gu Chen asked in turn.
Shen Yanhui reported a number in the "hundreds of millions," with the unit being Euros.
The number was staggering, equivalent to the annual GDP of a small country, and even Gu Yan looked up.
"How much can sponsorship cover?"
"Currently about seventy percent," Shen Yanhui said. "The rest requires self-funded investment."
"Operating at a loss?"
"In the short term, yes," Shen Yanhui admitted quite frankly. "F1 is a long-term investment; brand value and technological feedback take time."
Gu Chen didn't speak, his gaze returning to the track. On the screen, Xu Zhouye had just clocked a purple fastest lap.
"It burns money," he said in a low voice.
But it was also confident enough to use money to break down the threshold, and then use results to gain the right to speak.
Shen Yanhui was a top-tier investor, the kind of person he admired most in the business world.
He turned his gaze toward Gu Yan again; the bright and flamboyant young girl was currently tugging at the man's tie, pulling him down.
And Shen Yanhui just leaned over to her ear like that, listening to her speak.
The doting look on his face was like that of a completely different person compared to the one who had been calculating and incisive just a moment ago.
He let out a low, soft chuckle.
Su Jin glanced at him, then looked at the two people opposite, leaned in, and whispered, "Can you finally rest easy now?"
Gu Chen put his arm around her, but still wouldn't budge: "Still needs further observation."
Su Jin was annoyed; this stubbornness was probably a tradition of their Gu Family.
At this moment, a server walked over carrying a silver tray, on which were several very tempting-looking oysters, served with lemon and a special sauce.
Gu Yan's eyes lit up; her stomach had just recovered, and she was craving something flavorful.
Taking advantage of the gap while Shen Yanhui and Gu Chen were talking, she quietly reached out her fingertips.
Her wrist was caught by a warm hand and pulled back.
Shen Yanhui turned his head, brought her hand to his lips, and kissed her slightly cool fingertips: "You can't eat this; it's too cold, your stomach will be uncomfortable."
Gu Yan pursed her lips, a bit unconvinced, and muttered softly: "Just taste one..."
"No." Shen Yanhui's tone was gentle, but there was no room for negotiation.
Su Jin watched this, unable to help saying softly: "Yanyan, listen to Mr. Shen, you'd better not eat this. If it ends up affecting... that wouldn't be good."
The place where she paused was too thought-provoking.
Gu Chen asked: "Affecting what?"
Gu Yan: "?"
Shen Yanhui also looked over.
