Chapter 25
Seeing him glance toward the bathroom, Feng Jingxin said, “Mom’s taking a shower inside.”
Feng Tingshen: “Mm.”
He asked again, “Did you ask your mom to come here to shower?”
“No, Mom brought her clothes over herself.”
Feng Tingshen didn’t ask further. He spoke with her for a few more words, told her to rest early, then turned and left.
Rong Ci heard movement in the bathroom and knew Feng Tingshen had come, but she didn’t catch what they said.
Feng Jingxin hadn’t fully recovered from her illness; the medicine made her drowsy, and since it was already late, Rong Ci helped her lie down in bed after her bath.
Feng Jingxin snuggled into her arms, rubbing her cheek against Rong Ci’s shoulder. “Mom smells so nice and is so soft.”
She felt nothing was more comfortable than her mother’s arms.
More comfortable than Aunt Lin Wu’s embrace.
But knowing Rong Ci disliked Lin Wu, she didn’t say it aloud.
Feng Jingxin fell asleep quickly.
Rong Ci was also tired and soon drifted off.
Since falling ill, Feng Jingxin had developed a habit of kicking off her blankets.
Out of lingering concern, Rong Ci woke several times through the night, just as she always had, tucking the covers back around her each time to keep her from catching a chill before finally falling back asleep.
That night, Rong Ci didn’t sleep well, yet she woke the moment dawn broke.
Feng Jingxin was still asleep. Rong Ci rose quietly, went to the window, and saw that Feng Tingshen was indeed jogging downstairs.
He usually ran for about an hour before returning.
After washing up and changing into fresh clothes, Rong Ci went downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Half an hour later, she handed the remaining tasks to Liu Shen, confirmed Feng Jingxin hadn’t developed a fever again, then went upstairs to grab her bag and car keys and left.
Not long after she left, Feng Jingxin woke up.
She looked around but couldn’t find Rong Ci. “Where’s Mom?”
Liu Shen: “Lady went out on an errand.”
Feng Jingxin pouted: “Oh…”
Liu Shen smiled: “But before she left, Lady already prepared your breakfast.”
Feng Jingxin’s mood improved slightly.
Her illness hadn’t fully passed, but she felt energetic and hungry. After washing up, she went downstairs to eat.
A little while later, Feng Tingshen came downstairs too.
Not seeing Rong Ci, he paused, then asked Liu Shen: “Where’s Lady?”
“Oh, she went out.”
Feng Tingshen heard this and said nothing more.
……
Meanwhile.
Rong Ci returned home, ate something, packed her computer and essentials, and was just about to report to work when the doorbell rang.
Rong Ci checked the door camera and saw Neighbor Fang’s wife and her daughter, Tian Tian.
Rong Ci opened the door: “Mrs. Fang…”
Mrs. Fang looked anxious: “Miss Rong, Tian Tian’s grandmother is ill—I need to take her to the hospital. Could you please help me drop Tian Tian off at school?”
Since Feng Jingxin’s kindergarten and Rong Ci’s company were on the same route, she agreed.
Twenty minutes later, as Rong Ci searched for a parking spot near the kindergarten gate, she spotted Feng Tingshen, Lin Wu, and Feng Jingxin together.
Feng Jingxin looked energetic; she held hands with Lin Wu and bounced as she walked, clearly delighted.
As for Feng Tingshen, he stood beside Lin Wu, carefully shielding both her and Feng Jingxin from the traffic and crowds.
Tian Tian also spotted Feng Jingxin: “Miss Rong, that’s Miss Xin Xin!”
Rong Ci lowered her gaze: “Mm, I see.”
“Who’s the pretty lady holding Miss Xin Xin’s hand? Is she Miss Xin Xin’s mom too? Does Miss Xin Xin have two moms?”
Rong Ci didn’t answer. She stroked Tian Tian’s head and said, “Don’t tell Miss Xin Xin I dropped you off, okay?”
Tian Tian nodded: “Tian Tian knows.”
Last time, because she hugged Miss Rong, Miss Xin Xin had scowled at her. She was a little afraid of her and usually didn’t dare speak to her.
And Miss Xin Xin, perhaps still angry, glared at her with puffed cheeks every time she saw her…
Ahead, Feng Tingshen, Lin Wu, and Feng Jingxin looked exactly like a happy family of three.
Rong Ci watched, and truly thought it looked good.
She turned away her gaze.
A little while later, after Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu had left, Rong Ci got out of the car with Tian Tian.
The kindergarten teacher knew Rong Ci was Feng Jingxin’s mother.
Just now, seeing Feng Jingxin arrive with her father and another woman, she’d assumed Rong Ci was unavailable.
But now…
Seeing Rong Ci holding Tian Tian’s hand, the teacher suddenly felt her head spin: “Miss Rong, you and Tian Tian…”
“Mrs. Fang had an emergency and asked me to drop Tian Tian off.”
“Oh, I see,” the teacher sighed in relief, then added gently, “But… Miss Feng Jingxin just arrived at school too—”
“I know,” Rong Ci smiled.
The teacher was still confused, but seeing that Rong Ci seemed aware and unconcerned, she said no more.
Leaving the kindergarten, Rong Ci had barely gotten into the car when Yu Moxun called: “What time will you arrive?”
“About ten minutes.”
“Alright.”
When Rong Ci arrived at Changmo, Yu Moxun was already waiting at the company entrance.
Seeing her, he opened his arms and embraced her: “Welcome back.”
Rong Ci smiled and hugged him back.
Meanwhile.
In the company hallway, Ye Qiuyu leaned against the window, on the phone.
Seeing the commotion at the entrance and Rong Ci’s face, he was instantly struck by her beauty.
But he quickly looked away, as his call to Lin Wu had connected.
He smiled and spoke first: “Little sister Lin, good morning. When will you arrive at the company?”
Whatever Lin Wu said on the other end made Ye Qiuyu’s expression change.
A little while later, when he returned to his desk, his colleagues noticed his mood had darkened.
“Qiuyu, what’s wrong this early? Are you sick?”
Ye Qiuyu shook his head silently.
Soon after, other colleagues returned to the office. One whispered mysteriously: “I just saw Director Yu bring a gorgeous woman into the company—”
“Really gorgeous? Don’t fool me—I’m not well-read!”
“Seriously gorgeous—more beautiful than any movie star, glowing white, absolutely stunning!”
Ye Qiuyu immediately thought of the beautiful woman who had just rushed into Yu Moxun’s arms at the entrance.
Someone added: “And apparently, this woman is our new colleague starting today!”
Ye Qiuyu froze at that.
Lin Wu was his junior. When he learned she wanted to join Changmo after being recruited by Cuap, he immediately recommended her to Yu Moxun.
When they first met, Yu Moxun had clearly been pleased with Lin Wu.
Today was the day Lin Wu was scheduled to start.
He’d just called her to ask when she’d arrive, only to hear she was no longer needed—Yu Moxun had canceled her hiring for personal reasons.
As for what those personal reasons were…
Ye Qiuyu was just thinking this when Yu Moxun walked in with Rong Ci.
