Chapter 47: This Is the Difference
Feng Tingshen’s words were definitely not meant for her.
In all these years of marriage, Feng Tingshen had never held her like this while sleeping.
As for a good morning kiss, it was even less likely.
Rong Ci was certain Feng Tingshen had mistaken her for Lin Wu.
Rong Ci pressed her lips together, slowly her eyes reddened.
Feng Tingshen had not woken up.
Rong Ci looked at him, suppressed the bitterness in her heart, took a deep breath, and slowly pulled away from him, detaching herself from his embrace.
They were pressed so tightly together that even if she moved gently, she couldn’t possibly avoid waking him.
Sure enough, the moment she removed his hand from her waist, sat up sideways, and was about to pull her legs free, Feng Tingshen woke up.
Their gazes met directly.
Feng Tingshen came to his senses, perhaps realizing their current situation—that he had embraced the wrong person—and paused, then loosened his legs.
Rong Ci retracted her legs, turned over, refused to look at him again, moved to the edge of the bed, slipped on her slippers, and went to the bathroom.
When she came out after washing up, Feng Tingshen was already gone from the room.
She stepped out of the room and saw that Feng Tingshen was still wearing his pajamas, talking on the phone at the end of the hallway.
Rong Ci glanced at him once, then looked away and went downstairs.
The old lady had already woken up.
After a while, Feng Jingxin came downstairs too.
The old lady smiled: “Since everyone’s awake, let’s have breakfast first.”
Feng Jingxin: “Okay!”
The moment Feng Jingxin finished speaking, Feng Tingshen also came down and sat beside Rong Ci as usual.
Remembering what had happened this morning, Rong Ci shifted her seat slightly, creating a small distance between them.
Feng Jingxin ate her noodles, looked at Feng Tingshen, as if remembering something, and asked with wide, beautiful eyes: “Daddy, do you like hugging Mommy while sleeping?”
Rong Ci was sipping her noodle soup and choked instantly.
Feng Tingshen heard it but gave no answer.
Rong Ci’s face, already flushed from choking, grew even more awkward and unnatural.
The old lady, however, was delighted: “Oh? Why do you say that, Xinxin?”
“Just now, when I woke up and went to Mommy’s room to find her, I saw Mommy being held in Daddy’s arms…”
The old lady laughed, let out a long “Oh!” in realization, and teased Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen.
Feng Tingshen still said nothing.
Rong Ci’s expression grew even more unnatural.
Because she knew the person Feng Tingshen wanted to hold was not her.
At that moment, her phone rang.
It was Rong Lao Tai’s call.
Rong Ci answered: “Grandma.”
Rong Lao Tai said on the phone that her aunt-in-law had returned and brought gifts for her, and asked if she had time to come home for lunch.
Rong Ci looked at the old lady and said: “Grandma, Xinxin and I are at the old residence.”
From the old lady’s tone earlier, she clearly wanted them to accompany her to the estate to pick fruit later.
Knowing the purpose of Rong Lao Tai’s call, Feng Lao Tai said: “Then take Xinxin back with you.”
She turned to Feng Tingshen: “Tingshen, you haven’t visited your Rong grandmother in a long time. Since you’re free now, go with Xiao Ci.”
Feng Tingshen ate his breakfast and said coolly: “I have something else to do later.”
Rong Ci heard this without the slightest surprise.
She had expected it.
For her matters, Feng Tingshen was always too busy.
But whenever it came to Lin Wu, he always found time, no matter how packed his schedule.
This is the difference.
The old lady’s face darkened: “What’s so important that you haven’t gone back with Xiao Ci in so long—”
“Grandma.” Rong Ci interrupted, her expression calm: “It’s fine. Since Tingshen has something to do, Xinxin and I can go back ourselves.”
“You—”
Rong Ci said this because she didn’t want to force him, and she no longer cared.
But the old lady thought she was saying this to spare Feng Tingshen from discomfort.
Seeing how considerate and obedient Rong Ci still was toward Feng Tingshen, the old lady felt both heartbroken and helpless.
The matter was settled.
After breakfast and spending some time chatting with the old lady, Rong Ci prepared to leave with Feng Jingxin.
The old lady had prepared many gifts for Rong Ci to take to her friend.
Rong Ci couldn’t refuse, so she accepted them.
Feng Tingshen hadn’t left yet and walked out with the old lady to see them off.
Feng Jingxin came over and hugged Feng Tingshen’s leg: “Daddy, will you come home tonight?”
Feng Tingshen rubbed her head: “Yes.”
Throughout, Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen exchanged not a single word.
After Feng Jingxin got into the car, Rong Ci waved to the old lady and drove off.
In the rearview mirror, she saw Feng Tingshen and the old lady standing in place, watching her car leave.
Arriving at the Rong residence, Rong Ci parked the car in the courtyard of the Rong family villa, and the old lady and her aunt-in-law He Mingxue came out to greet them.
Seeing the backseat packed with gifts, the old lady frowned: “Why did you bring so much?”
“Grandma told me to bring them for you.”
Since Rong Ci married Feng Tingshen, the visits between Rong Lao Tai and Feng Lao Tai had become less frequent than before.
Hearing this, Rong Lao Tai snorted and said nothing.
Rong Ci noticed the villa across from them was under construction with scaffolding and changed the subject: “Is someone moving into that villa?”
“Probably. Construction started last week. From what the workers said, the owner is in a hurry to move in. Not even many days have passed, and the renovation is nearly complete—likely someone will move in soon.”
This was an old villa district where everyone had lived together for over twenty years and knew each other well.
Now that someone was moving in right across from them, He Mingxue, helping carry the gifts, said: “I hope the new neighbor is easy to get along with.”
If they were unreasonable, life in the future might become difficult.
Inside the house, He Mingxue brought out a bowl of premium bird’s nest she had specially prepared for Rong Ci: “I heard from Mom that you’ve been looking worn out lately. I had someone save this for me—take some home tonight and have someone stew it for you.”
Rong Ci took the bowl: “Thank you, Auntie.”
Rong Ci’s uncle, Rong Changsheng, was busy with work and didn’t return until dinner.
Remembering how Yu Moxun had been punished by Feng Tingshen for keeping Lin Wu out of Changmo, which ultimately cost Rong Changsheng a project, Rong Ci felt deep guilt.
“Uncle, I’m sorry about what happened last time.”
“It’s fine, it’s over,” Rong Changsheng said indifferently. “I already told you before—even without the Lin family, Rong Corporation couldn’t have handled that project anyway. Don’t blame yourself.”
This matter must never reach the old lady’s ears—if she found out Feng Tingshen was helping Lin Wu bully the Rong family, she’d be furious.
Seeing the old lady approach, Rong Changsheng nudged Rong Ci, signaling her to drop it.
Rong Ci changed the subject.
