Chapter 52: Wipe Away the Tear from Her Eyelash

~7 min read 1,251 words

Her tears swirled in her eyes, and her mind went blank for a moment.

But she quickly snapped back and hurriedly said, “Thank you, then you—”

Before she could finish speaking the words “What’s the condition?”, Feng Tingshen pulled the cigarette away slightly, reached out, and wiped away the tear that had just slipped from her eye, saying, “Get some rest early.”

Rong Ci froze, staring at his retreating back, momentarily unable to react.

When she finally came to, she didn’t know what to do.

Did Feng Tingshen telling her to get some rest early mean she was to stay overnight here?

She had moved out, but they hadn’t officially divorced—staying one night wasn’t a big deal.

But if she stayed in the master bedroom…

Never mind.

Thinking of this, she calmed herself, gathered her things, took a change of clothes and some daily necessities, and went to Feng Jingxin’s room.

That night, she slept in Feng Jingxin’s room.

The next day.

She woke before seven.

After she was awake for a while, Feng Jingxin also woke up, hugging her neck and whining, asking her to take her to school later.

Rong Ci agreed.

After washing up, they went downstairs for breakfast.

Soon after, Feng Tingshen entered the dining room and sat across from them.

Feng Jingxin greeted him cheerfully: “Dad, good morning.”

“Morning.”

Feng Tingshen replied, glanced at Rong Ci, said nothing, sat down, and ate his breakfast in silence.

Rong Ci watched, and said nothing either.

Feng Tingshen had agreed to help her yesterday, but that didn’t mean anything had changed between them.

Their relationship remained exactly as before.

After breakfast, Rong Ci dropped Feng Jingxin off at school and went to work.

Since attending the tech expo, Rong Ci and Yu Moxun had developed many new ideas, but they’d been too busy with the Xundu collaboration to discuss them in depth.

Now they had time, so they began solidifying their ideas and figuring out how to move forward.

So today, they had a lot of work.

Rong Ci planned to order takeout for dinner and work late into the night at the office.

But at around six in the afternoon, while she was still busy and hadn’t even had time to order takeout, her phone rang.

It was Feng Tingshen calling.

Rong Ci glanced at it, excused herself to others, left the meeting room, and answered: “Hello.”

“Grandma’s here,” Feng Tingshen said. “Come home early.”

Rong Ci paused, before he hung up without waiting for her reply.

Rong Ci snapped back to reality, returned to the meeting room, told Yu Moxun she had something to attend to and needed to leave early, then added, “Send me the meeting progress and issues later—I’ll handle them when I can.”

That way, she wouldn’t hold everyone back.

Yu Moxun nudged her: “Got it, go ahead.”

Half an hour later, Rong Ci drove back to the villa.

Feng Tingshen’s usual car was already parked nearby.

He must have returned already.

As she thought this, she entered the house and indeed saw Feng Tingshen.

He, along with Grandma Feng and Feng Jingxin, was sitting on the sofa chatting.

He was the first to notice her return.

But he said nothing.

Grandma Feng saw her and stood up, smiling: “Xiao Ci’s back?”

“Mm.”

Grandma Feng patted her hand: “Hungry? The food’s almost ready—let’s eat first.”

“Okay.”

This time, without needing Grandma Feng’s hint, Feng Tingshen sat down right beside her.

Grandma Feng served her food and sighed: “Look at you, you’ve gotten so thin again—how can you not take care of yourself?”

Though she said this, she shot a glare at her grandson.

Her grandson remained unmoved, but no longer needed Grandma Feng’s prompting—he began serving Rong Ci food himself.

Rong Ci: “Thank you.”

Grandma Feng also said she’d brought many tonics, and after dinner, she’d have someone pick some out for Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen to strengthen their bodies.

Rong Ci couldn’t refuse, so she nodded repeatedly.

Grandma Feng had once worked in Y City and knew how to make slow-simmered soups; after dinner, she insisted on personally instructing someone to prepare the tonic for Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen. When Rong Ci tried to help in the kitchen, Grandma Feng pushed her out.

Rong Ci had no choice but to sit on the sofa.

Feng Jingxin and Feng Tingshen were there too.

One was handling work on her phone, the other playing with her Lu Ban lock.

All were quiet, saying nothing.

At that moment, Yu Moxun also had something to discuss with her; she checked his message and replied immediately.

She was so absorbed in her work that she didn’t notice Grandma Feng had come out of the kitchen.

But Feng Tingshen had already put down his phone.

Rong Ci quickly set her phone aside: “Grandma.”

Grandma Feng looked at the three of them and sighed: “You two…”

She didn’t know what to say, walked over, sat close to Rong Ci, and asked: “What are you busy with?”

“Just work at the company…”

Grandma Feng snorted, pointing at Feng Tingshen: “If you have work, you can talk to him—does he sit here just to be decoration?”

Rong Ci fell silent.

She didn’t mention she’d resigned from Feng Corporation.

She glanced at Feng Tingshen.

He seemed to be in good spirits and didn’t speak up to tell Grandma Feng about her resignation.

Probably worried that if she found out, she’d demand Rong Ci return to Feng Corporation.

Grandma Feng quickly changed the subject and then pulled Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen to take a walk in the garden.

After returning from the walk, Grandma Feng felt tired and told them: “I’m going to bathe and rest—when the tonic’s ready later, make sure you drink it.”

Rong Ci was about to say yes, but then realized Grandma Feng meant she’d be staying overnight—she froze, looking at Feng Tingshen.

Feng Tingshen seemed to know what she was thinking; after Grandma Feng walked away, he said: “Grandma says she’ll be staying here for a while.”

“What?” Rong Ci stood rooted in place.

Feng Tingshen offered no further explanation: “I’m going to the study.”

With that, he didn’t wait for her reaction and went upstairs.

Feng Jingxin ran down from upstairs, grabbed Rong Ci’s hand, and pulled her up to help her solve the Lu Ban lock.

Rong Ci spent over an hour with Feng Jingxin, when Liu Shen brought the prepared tonic: “Madam, the soup’s ready.”

She set down one bowl.

Rong Ci took it: “Thank you.”

“Grandma said to drink it while it’s hot.”

“Okay, I know.”

Liu Shen left and took the other bowl to Feng Tingshen.

Rong Ci drank the hot soup, then urged Feng Jingxin to bathe.

Since Grandma Feng was staying, she obviously couldn’t sleep in Feng Jingxin’s room anymore.

After Feng Jingxin finished bathing, Rong Ci returned to the master bedroom.

Feng Tingshen wasn’t there.

He must still be in the study.

She hadn’t yet handled some of Yu Moxun’s messages.

She quickly replied to part of them.

But some issues were difficult.

As she thought, she entered the bathroom.

After washing up and changing into her nightgown, she realized she’d forgotten to bring her night pants.

Her earlier clothes had gotten damp when she washed her face.

Feng Tingshen probably hadn’t returned yet…

Thinking of this, she hesitated, opened the bathroom door, and stepped out.

But as soon as she stepped out, she met Feng Tingshen’s gaze.
