Chapter 54: Grandma Sent Me to Pick You Up
Thinking of this, Rong Ci’s throat grew dry and aching, and suddenly she felt the car was stifling.
She withdrew her gaze, intending to roll down the window for air, but froze just before pressing the button.
In the end, she didn’t press the button, only turned her head to look out the window.
She didn’t know how long it had been when Feng Jingxin’s school arrived.
Rong Ci got out to walk her in, while Feng Tingshen remained seated in the car.
Feng Jingxin: “Dad…”
“Dad has something to do.”
“Oh…”
Rong Ci knew that previously, when Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu brought Feng Jingxin to school, he would always get out with Lin Wu and hand her over to the teacher.
Now that it was her, she didn’t know whether he truly had something to do, or whether he simply didn’t want to stand beside her in public.
Thinking of this, she didn’t want to force it; she looked into the car at Feng Tingshen and said, “Go ahead, I’ll take a taxi to the office myself.”
Hearing this, Feng Tingshen glanced at her and said, “It’s on the way.”
But Rong Ci no longer wanted to ride in his car.
She wanted to convince him, yet felt that if he didn’t care, why should she care so much?
In the end, she said nothing.
After watching Feng Jingxin follow the teacher into the school, Rong Ci turned back and got into the car.
In the car, she and Feng Tingshen rode in silence.
Ten minutes from Changmo, Yu Moxun sent her some materials.
Rong Ci opened them and began reading.
Unconsciously absorbed, she didn’t even notice when the car arrived beneath the Changmo building.
Only when Feng Tingshen said, “We’re here,” did she snap back to awareness.
Feng Tingshen’s car was a luxury Bentley, parked at the building entrance—quite eye-catching.
Seeing several people glancing over, and knowing she and Feng Tingshen would have little further contact, she didn’t want to draw unnecessary attention; she quickly grabbed her bag and got out, saying to Feng Tingshen, “Thank you.”
Feng Tingshen glanced at her. “Mm.”
Then he told the driver, “Let’s go.”
The car pulled away quickly.
Rong Ci turned and entered the company.
At noon, Yu Moxun invited a business partner to lunch.
Rong Ci went along.
As the car entered the restaurant’s parking lot, Rong Ci saw Feng Tingshen.
He had just gotten out.
At the same time, Lin Wu stepped out of his car as well.
After parking, Yu Moxun also noticed them.
He rubbed his temples: “What a coincidence.”
Rong Ci: “Mm.”
Only after speaking did she notice Lin Lihai, Xiang Rufang, and others were there too.
They had apparently arrived earlier and were waiting for Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu.
Seeing them arrive, they hurried forward.
“Get out?” Yu Moxun asked from inside the car. “Or wait until they leave?”
“Let’s get out.”
She hadn’t done anything wrong—why should she avoid them?
As they stepped out, Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen faced them directly and spotted them at once.
Feng Tingshen’s expression remained cool, unchanged; he glanced once and looked away.
Lin Wu’s gaze turned icy the moment she saw Rong Ci.
Previously, when Lin Wu saw her, though her expression was cold, it had never been this openly hostile.
Lin Wu’s reaction, Rong Ci guessed, must be because Feng Tingshen had told her not to let her uncles move into the house across from her uncle’s.
Feng Tingshen had indeed told her.
She had agreed.
To her, it wasn’t a particularly important matter.
What upset her was Rong Ci’s act of asking Feng Tingshen for help.
She didn’t want to see any close connection between Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen.
Thinking of this, Lin Wu’s expression grew even colder.
At that moment, Lin Lihai noticed Lin Wu’s expression and followed her gaze—seeing Rong Ci.
He frowned.
Xiang Rufang, however, was seeing this scene for the first time.
Remembering Feng Tingshen’s concern for Lin Wu, her gaze toward Rong Ci held a touch of triumph.
Still, since Feng Tingshen was present, she didn’t say anything rash.
But Lin Wu walked over.
Yet the person she approached to speak with was Yu Moxun.
She smiled: “Director Yu, what a coincidence—we meet again.”
Yu Moxun smiled without warmth: “Yes, quite a coincidence.”
“I’ve been wanting to invite Director Yu to dinner, but I’ve been so busy lately I couldn’t find the time.”
“Miss Lin, no need to be formal—I’m well aware you’re a busy person.”
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have waited a full month after their first meeting before even showing up at Changmo.
Lin Lihai also wanted to build a good relationship with Yu Moxun.
Seeing Lin Wu ignore Rong Ci and go over to greet Yu Moxun—and Feng Tingshen seeming to approve—he walked over too.
Lin Lilan followed him.
After greeting Yu Moxun, Lin Lihai looked at Rong Ci and called out: “Xiao Ci.”
Rong Ci didn’t respond.
Lin Lihai didn’t press further; he shifted his full attention to Yu Moxun.
After greeting Yu Moxun, none of them so much as glanced at Rong Ci again—they returned directly to Feng Tingshen’s side.
Then, together with Feng Tingshen, they entered the restaurant first.
Yu Moxun watched, his head throbbing: “They’re ignoring you completely.”
Rong Ci’s tone was calm: “Mm.”
She said, “Let’s go too—we shouldn’t keep the guests waiting.”
“Alright.”
That evening, Rong Ci had to work overtime.
But near seven, the old lady called, asking when she’d be home.
Though the old lady had come, she should return early.
Yet she still had many thoughts unorganized and didn’t want to put down her work to go home.
After hesitating, she said, “Sorry, Grandma, I have to work overtime—I’ll be home later.”
The old lady sighed: “You’re busy, and so is Tingshen—when will the two of you ever make progress?”
Meaning Feng Tingshen would also be late home tonight?
Rong Ci said, “Grandma, I’m sorry…”
“Ah, it’s fine. But remember to eat properly, even when you’re busy.”
“Yes, I will.”
After hanging up, her takeout arrived.
After eating, Rong Ci worked until nearly ten before leaving the company.
But she hadn’t driven in today; she’d called her driver half an hour earlier.
At this hour, the driver should already be here.
When Rong Ci went downstairs, she found the driver had indeed arrived.
But the one who came to pick her up wasn’t the driver she’d contacted—it was Feng Tingshen’s driver.
And Feng Tingshen himself sat in the back seat.
Seeing her standing still, Feng Tingshen slowly rolled down the window and looked at her: “Grandma sent me to pick you up.”
Hearing this, Rong Ci walked around and got in, sitting in the seat she’d occupied that morning.
The car smoothly merged into traffic.
Silence settled again in the car.
Feng Tingshen was occupied with his own affairs, paying her no attention.
But Rong Ci remembered something and suddenly asked, “Did they agree?”
She meant the matter of Lin Wu’s uncles not moving in.
When they met at lunch today, Lin Wu’s expression was off; she guessed Lin Wu had agreed.
What about the others?
Feng Tingshen’s gaze remained on his phone: “Agreed.”
“Then…” Rong Ci hesitated, then firmly asked: “Can I buy that villa?”
She did this to eliminate future threats.
Feng Tingshen paused, glancing at her, “Yes.”
Hearing this, Rong Ci finally exhaled in relief: “Thank you.”
Feng Tingshen: “Mm.”
