Chapter 58: Go Upstairs and Call Your Mother Down for Dinner

~6 min read 1,113 words

At that moment, another elevator door opened, and Qi Yuming stepped out.

Seeing Qi Yuming, Rong Ci was surprised.

She hadn’t expected him to come to Warm Spring Shanzhuang.

But the old lady and Feng Tingshen showed no surprise—they clearly knew Qi Yuming was coming to Warm Spring Shanzhuang.

Qi Yuming spotted Rong Ci, raised an eyebrow, then warmly addressed the old lady: “Are you leaving already, Grandma? Won’t you have lunch first?”

The Feng and Qi families had a good relationship.

The Feng grandmother had watched Qi Yuming grow up; she smiled kindly at his words: “No, no, you all have fun.”

They saw the old lady off at the door.

Once the car drove away, Feng Jingxin immediately asked happily: “Uncle Qi, why are you here?”

Qi Yuming bent down and pinched Feng Jingxin’s soft cheek: “Your father asked me to come. I greeted Grandma Feng and came right over. How’s that for loyalty?”

“So it was Dad who asked you to come?”

"Of course," Qi Yuming grinned. "When I heard your great-grandmother was leaving, I notified Uncle He and Aunt Lin Wu—they're already on their way and will arrive soon. Aren't you happy?"

As he spoke, Qi Yuming deliberately glanced at Rong Ci.

Rong Ci noticed—and knew Qi Yuming had said that on purpose, for her ears.

Feng Jingxin was naturally delighted.

She was about to nod, then hesitated, remembering Rong Ci was there, and looked up at her.

Rong Ci pretended not to see, ruffled her hair, and said: “You all play. I’m going back to my room.”

Without even glancing at Feng Tingshen or Qi Yuming, she turned and left.

Seeing Rong Ci’s cold expression, her face devoid of the old worry and unease she used to show when learning Lin Wu was coming, as if she didn’t care at all.

Feng Jingxin was still here—he couldn’t speak plainly. Watching Rong Ci’s retreating back, he stepped closer to Feng Tingshen and lowered his voice: “What’s going on?”

Feng Tingshen’s expression didn’t change. He asked: “Did you come alone?”

“Of course not. Soaking in hot springs is such a great activity—why would I come alone? I brought my treasure along—”

Before he finished, Qi Yuming paused, turned his head toward him, and said: “Wait, you’re changing the subject.”

Feng Tingshen didn’t deny it. He only said: “Your treasure has arrived.”

As he spoke, a tall, voluptuous woman in an open bathrobe, revealing a bikini underneath, walked toward them.

After returning to her room, Rong Ci changed back into her everyday clothes, sat by the small round table, and turned on her computer to thoroughly study the exhibits from the last tech exhibition.

Combining the information she’d gathered over the past few days, half an hour later, Rong Ci suddenly had an idea and called Yu Moxun: “Are you free?”

“At a masquerade party. What’s up?”

Rong Ci explained her idea to him.

Yu Moxun’s expression turned serious yet excited: “Wait a moment—I’ll head back right away.”

“Alright.”

After hanging up, Rong Ci focused intently and resumed working.

She didn’t know how long passed before she suddenly heard voices coming from downstairs.

Rong Ci froze.

She realized it might be He Zhangbai and Lin Wu arriving.

Rong Ci stood up and closed the window.

At that point, she was already hungry. She called the internal line and asked someone to bring her a meal up.

They immediately agreed.

Once her meal was ready, the Shanzhuang staff promptly brought it upstairs to Rong Ci.

As they passed through the lobby toward the elevator, the staff encountered Feng Tingshen and the others.

Qi Yuming asked: “Whose meal is this…?”

The staff immediately replied: “It was ordered by Madam.”

The only person the staff would directly call “Madam” was Rong Ci.

They didn’t make things difficult for the staff and let him proceed with the delivery.

But after the staff left, Qi Yuming smiled and said: “Looks like we won’t need to call her down for dinner.”

Feng Tingshen said coolly: “Still, call her.”

Hearing this, Lin Wu paused, pursed her lips, and looked at Feng Tingshen.

He Zhangbai and Qi Yuming also froze.

But Qi Yuming quickly smiled and said: “True. Grandma specifically told you to take good care of her. If we eat without inviting her and Grandma finds out, it’ll be messy.”

After all, this was the Feng family’s private Shanzhuang—Grandma likely had eyes everywhere.

Any movement here would probably reach her quickly.

Hearing this, Lin Wu relaxed her lips.

She’d thought that after Grandma Feng’s matchmaking, Feng Tingshen had truly grown fond of Rong Ci…

But now, hearing Qi Yuming say that, she realized she’d overthought it.

He Zhangbai, upon hearing Qi Yuming’s words, also turned his gaze away.

At that moment, Feng Jingxin returned. Feng Tingshen ruffled her head and said: “Go upstairs and call your mother down for dinner.”

Feng Jingxin froze, hesitated, and asked: “You want Mom to come down and eat with us?”

“Mm.”

Feng Jingxin opened her mouth, frowned, then looked at Lin Wu.

She didn’t want her mother to eat with them.

If her mother joined, she’d definitely target Aunt Lin Wu and ruin everyone’s mood.

Lin Wu smiled gently and said: “Go ahead.”

Feng Jingxin hesitated, then went upstairs.

When Feng Jingxin pressed the doorbell, Rong Ci was already eating in her room.

Seeing on the TV monitor that it was Feng Jingxin at the door, Rong Ci put down her chopsticks and went to open it: “Xinxin?”

Feng Jingxin bit her lip, looked up at Rong Ci: “Mom, Dad told me to call you down to eat with us.”

Rong Ci refused outright: “I’m already eating. You all eat.”

Feng Jingxin exhaled in relief: “Okay, so… I’ll just tell Dad that?”

Rong Ci knew she didn’t want her to come downstairs and eat with them.

She noticed the girl’s expression and said coolly: “Mm. Go.”

Feng Jingxin beamed: “Okay!”

She turned and walked away smiling, but after two steps, she felt guilty: “Mom, are you okay alone? Should I… should I stay with you?”

Downstairs was crowded and lively.

Leaving Mom alone up here did seem a little pitiful.

Her tone when offering to stay was reluctant.

Clearly, she preferred going downstairs to eat with Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu.

Rong Ci didn’t want to force her.

She didn’t need forced company.

She bent down and said gently: “It’s fine. I like being alone. Go.”

Hearing this, Feng Jingxin’s guilt immediately lessened. She nodded: “Okay, I’m going.”

Rong Ci: “Go.”

Feng Jingxin left quickly.

Rong Ci watched her retreating back, closed the door, and returned to her room to finish eating.
