Chapter 6

~7 min read 1,230 words

The next day.

When Feng Tingshen arrived at the company, he ran into Rong Ci head-on.

Rong Ci did not know that Feng Tingshen and Feng Jingxin had already returned to the country.

Suddenly encountering Feng Tingshen at the company, Rong Ci froze in her steps.

Seeing Rong Ci, Feng Tingshen showed a hint of surprise in his eyes, but he assumed she had simply returned from a business trip and did not think further.

With an expressionless face, he treated her like a stranger, coldly passed her by, and turned to enter the company.

In the past, upon learning he had suddenly returned, Rong Ci would have been overjoyed.

In that moment, even if she could not throw herself into his arms, she would have looked at him with sparkling eyes full of excitement and happiness, and despite his coldness, she would have smiled and greeted him warmly with “Good morning.”

But now, after one glance at his strikingly handsome face, Rong Ci lowered her eyes—her expression no longer carried the old excitement or joy.

Yet Feng Tingshen did not notice any of this; he had already walked ahead.

Watching the man’s steady, upright back, Rong Ci wondered when he had returned—but since he was back in the country, surely the divorce would soon be on the agenda.

Having made up her mind to divorce him, Rong Ci no longer dwelled on Feng Tingshen. Returning to her desk, she immediately plunged into work.

Half an hour later, Jiang Zhe called to instruct her: “Brew two cups of coffee and bring them to Manager Feng’s office.”

Originally, to win Feng Tingshen’s affection, she had spent great effort studying coffee after learning he liked it.

Her efforts were not in vain.

After tasting her coffee, whether at home or at the office, Feng Tingshen insisted on drinking only hers.

At the time, learning he truly loved her coffee, she had been elated for a long time, believing it was the first step toward success.

In truth, she had underestimated his dislike and wariness toward her.

He did like the coffee she brewed.

But only the coffee.

As for her, his attitude remained cold and distant.

So when he wanted her coffee, he usually instructed Jiang Zhe to contact her; after she brewed it, Jiang Zhe or others would come to collect it.

He gave her not the slightest opportunity to get close to him.

Only occasionally, when Jiang Zhe and the others were busy, did she get a chance to deliver the coffee to his office herself.

This time, from Jiang Zhe’s tone on the phone, it seemed he expected her to bring the coffee directly to Feng Tingshen.

After brewing the coffee, Rong Ci placed it on a tray and carried it to Feng Tingshen’s office.

Feng Tingshen’s office door was open.

As she approached his office door, about to politely knock, she saw Lin Wu sitting on Feng Tingshen’s lap.

The two appeared to be kissing.

Rong Ci froze, her face turning instantly pale.

Seeing her, Lin Wu hurriedly slid off Feng Tingshen’s lap.

Feng Tingshen’s face darkened; he snapped coldly: “Who gave you permission to come here?!”

Rong Ci gripped the tray tightly: “I came to bring you coffee—”

“Enough, Secretary Rong.” Feng Tingshen’s other personal secretary, Cheng Yuan, happened to arrive.

He knew the nature of Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen’s relationship.

He said: “This is really pointless.”

Cheng Yuan did not say it outright, but Rong Ci suddenly understood his implication.

He thought she knew Lin Wu had come to the company, and that she had used delivering coffee as an excuse to disrupt Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu’s time together…

Judging by Feng Tingshen’s expression, he seemed to think the same.

In the past, she might have done exactly that.

But now, she was about to divorce him—how could she possibly do something like this?

Yet they gave her no chance to explain.

Cheng Yuan said coldly: “Leave immediately.”

Rong Ci’s eyes reddened; her hand holding the tray trembled slightly. Coffee spilled from the cup, scalding her fingers. She winced but said nothing, turning away without a sound.

But after only two steps, Feng Tingshen’s voice rang out again from the office: “If this happens again, you will never set foot in this company again.”

She had already resigned.

Even without this incident, once someone replaced her, she would leave the company immediately.

But she knew no one here cared about her.

Explaining would mean nothing.

Rong Ci remained silent, turned, and walked away with the tray.

Before leaving, she still heard Lin Wu gently soothing Feng Tingshen: “There, Tingshen, I think she didn’t mean it—don’t stay angry so long…”

Rong Ci poured out the coffee, rinsed her scalded fingers under the tap, then skillfully pulled ointment from her bag and applied it to her skin.

Though she now cooked well and brewed coffee excellently,

in truth, before marrying Feng Tingshen, she could not do housework, could not cook, and had never even drunk coffee.

After marriage, for Feng Tingshen and for the child, she learned everything.

To master these skills, she spent countless hours practicing, transforming from utter incompetence to near-perfection.

The bitterness behind it, only she knew.

As for the ointment in her bag—any mother who raises children herself inevitably carries first-aid supplies.

But since Feng Jingxin went to Country A with Feng Tingshen, she had rarely needed to use these supplies.

Fortunately, they had not expired.

After treating the wound, Rong Ci suppressed the needle-like pain surging in her chest and returned to her desk to resume work.

She had just organized the documents on her desk when she suddenly heard someone say—

“I heard Manager Feng’s girlfriend came to the company!”

“Girlfriend? Manager Feng has a girlfriend? Who is she? Where’s she from? Is she beautiful?!”

“No one knows her background, but the receptionist downstairs says she’s from another wealthy family and is incredibly beautiful with outstanding poise!”

As the two colleagues chatted, they noticed Rong Ci standing up. Remembering they needed to go downstairs with her for a meeting, they fell silent and walked over with awkward smiles: “Let’s work first—gossip later.”

Rong Ci knew the “Manager Feng’s girlfriend” they meant was Lin Wu.

Yet she showed no expression, turned, and left the office with the two colleagues to enter the elevator.

When they stepped out of the elevator, they were about to head toward the conference room when they saw Lin Wu approaching with four senior executives.

The four executives surrounded Lin Wu, their expressions cautious, fawning, and obsequious.

Lin Wu smiled: “Thank you, managers, for taking time to show me around the company.”

Dressed in designer labels, every gesture of Lin Wu radiated the aura of a wealthy heiress.

She spoke politely, yet as if she were already the company’s mistress—courteous, yet distant, clearly treating the managers as her subordinates.

The managers smiled in return: “Given your relationship with Manager Feng, what we’ve done is merely our duty. Miss Lin, you’re too kind.”

“Exactly, exactly.”

As they spoke, they noticed Rong Ci and the others stepping out of the elevator. Even though Rong Ci and her group had automatically moved aside to avoid blocking their path, the managers’ brows immediately furrowed.

“How are you walking? What if you bumped into Miss Lin? You have no manners at all!”
