Chapter 88: I'm Not Interested in Racing

~6 min read 1,169 words

In the divorce agreement, she clearly stated she wanted nothing.

It did not involve property division or custody of Feng Jingxin; she assumed he would soon notify her to collect the divorce certificate.

But since she left the divorce agreement behind and returned to China, nearly three months have passed, and he has remained silent.

Thinking of this, Rong Ci lifted her head, ready to ask him about it, when a knock came at the door.

Then, Feng Tingyi’s voice sounded from outside: “Sister-in-law, I heard you’re sick—are you feeling better now?”

Before Rong Ci could speak, Feng Tingshen said: “Come in.”

Earlier, many people had come and gone from the room, so the door had been left open.

Hearing Feng Tingshen’s voice, Feng Tingyi walked in and greeted him first: “Brother.”

Feng Tingshen: “Mm.”

Feng Tingyi’s gaze landed on Rong Ci. Rong Ci didn’t interact with him much, knew he cared but didn’t know what to say, so she spoke first: “I’m much better.”

Feng Tingyi scratched his head: “Oh, good, good then.”

Rong Ci smiled: “Haven’t you been back here in a long time?”

“Yeah… I missed the food here, so I came back. I just got here and heard from Grandma that you had a fever.”

At that moment, Grandma Feng came upstairs too. Seeing Rong Ci’s complexion had improved, she felt somewhat reassured and said: “The soup in the kitchen is ready. Old Zhang says you can drink it too—will you come down together, or should I have Tingshen bring it up to you?”

Rong Ci hadn’t eaten much and had no appetite; she felt the room was stuffy and didn’t want to stay inside, so she went downstairs with Grandma Feng and Feng Tingshen.

Downstairs, they didn’t see Feng Jingxin. Feng Tingyi asked: “Where’s Xinxin?”

Grandma Feng: “She ate a little but couldn’t drink anything. She’ll take a couple more sips later.”

After sitting down, Rong Ci took the soup from the butler, lowered her head, and sipped it slowly while blowing on it.

Feng Tingshen sat beside her, but his phone buzzed with a message. To avoid her seeing, he shifted slightly away from her and began replying.

Rong Ci watched silently, continuing to sip her soup.

Grandma Feng couldn’t bear it: “Can’t you wait until after the soup to deal with it?”

Feng Tingshen: “Just a moment.”

The bowl of soup was soon finished.

Grandma Feng: “Want another sip or two?”

Rong Ci shook her head and stood up: “No, I’m full.”

Even though Feng Tingshen had turned slightly away, when she stood, she accidentally saw he was chatting with Lin Wu on WeChat—he seemed to be explaining something about a project to her.

Perhaps sensing she had noticed, Feng Tingshen moved even farther away.

But Rong Ci had already looked away, sat down in the living room, and idly picked up a newspaper to read.

A while later, Feng Tingyi brought in a plate of washed fruit and asked if she wanted any.

Rong Ci looked up and said: “No, you eat it.”

As she raised her head, she noticed Feng Tingshen had also left the dining room, phone still in hand, and was already heading upstairs.

Rong Ci lowered her gaze.

Feng Tingyi sat down beside her, glanced at her twice. Rong Ci noticed and asked: “What’s wrong?”

“It’s just—I’m not as smart as you or my brother, not good at studying. I’ve got a few physics problems I don’t get…”

Rong Ci paused. Before she could speak, Feng Tingyi added: “I wanted to ask my brother to teach me, but he just said he’s busy and told me to ask you.”

Rong Ci fell silent, then took his test papers.

Feng Tingyi’s grades were quite good, his foundation solid. Rong Ci glanced at his two papers, helped him clarify his thinking slightly, and he immediately understood.

“Sister-in-law, you’re amazing—thank you!”

After understanding, Feng Tingyi didn’t care about appearances—he squatted on the coffee table and started writing.

After finishing the physics problems, he packed up his papers and pen and said: “Done! Now I can finally play with my phone!”

Rong Ci smiled, put down the newspaper she’d nearly finished reading. Her energy had improved; she thought of going upstairs to find a book to read and pass the time, when Feng Tingyi leaned over and whispered: “Sister-in-law, my goddess recently entered another car race—this time she was even cooler. I recorded it—want to watch?”

Rong Ci froze. Her smile faded slightly. “No thanks—I’m not really interested in racing.”

“Really?” Feng Tingyi had assumed she was interested since she’d watched through binoculars for so long. He sounded surprised: “You watched for ages that day—I thought you liked it too…”

Rong Ci said: “I saw a few people I knew there that day.”

“Oh… I see.” Seeing she truly wasn’t interested, Feng Tingyi stopped pushing it. He turned away, continuing to replay Lin Wu’s race footage, saying: “My goddess didn’t enter this race. I miss her so much—without her competing, I don’t know when I’ll see her again… sigh…”

Rong Ci said: “I’m going upstairs to get a book.”

Feng Tingyi, full of energy, replied: “Okay, Sister-in-law, even though you’re feeling better, you still need to rest more!”

Rong Ci: “Mm, I will.”

Saying that, she stood and went upstairs.

When she returned to her room, Feng Tingshen wasn’t there.

Rong Ci saw the book he had taken—now placed on the table. She picked it up and put it back in her bag.

When she occasionally stayed overnight here, she always brought one or two books.

She searched the room but couldn’t find it. She thought it might be in Feng Jingxin’s room, so she turned and went there.

Feng Jingxin’s door wasn’t closed.

Before Rong Ci reached the room, she heard Feng Jingxin’s voice coming from inside: “Aunt Wu, I’m so bored—can you chat with me a little longer?”

Rong Ci stopped walking.

A few seconds later, Feng Jingxin’s cheerful voice rang out again: “I’ll come down and drink the soup soon—I won’t skip it, Aunt Wu, don’t worry.”

Rong Ci leaned back against the wall.

“Alright, Aunt Wu, goodbye—mua~”

After hanging up, Feng Jingxin didn’t immediately leave her room.

Rong Ci’s throat was sore from her illness; she coughed twice and walked into Feng Jingxin’s room. Only then did Feng Jingxin notice her.

She was lying on the bed, happily kicking her feet in the air. Seeing Rong Ci, she sat up: “Mom, why are you out of your room?”

Rong Ci said coolly: “I came to get a book.”

Feng Jingxin came over and grabbed her hand, asking: “Grandma said the soup’s ready—Mom, will you come down and drink it with me?”

Rong Ci pulled her hand away: “I’ve already drunk mine. You go down and drink yours.”

Feng Jingxin had just finished chatting with Lin Wu and was in high spirits; she didn’t notice Rong Ci’s mood and said: “Okay, I’m going downstairs then!”

Rong Ci: “Mm.”
