Chapter 96: Following Xie Wantang

~7 min read 1,307 words

Seeing Xie Wantang's reaction, Professor Wu let out a cold snort in his heart.

He wasn't snorting at Xie Wantang, but at the brat Lu Chen.

Letting this brat hide so many things from him, serves him right now—karma has arrived.

Seeing a male student try to add Xie Wantang on WeChat, this brat seethed with jealousy, but Xie Wantang remained so calm.

Those two female students in class were obviously after him, yet Xie Wantang showed no reaction.

After all, she likes her ex-husband Lu Yanshen, not him Lu Chen.

Although he knows Lu Yanshen is also this brat of his, Xie Wantang doesn't know that.

Serves him right!

"Wantang, want to grab lunch together at LC?" Professor Wu packed up, saw Xie Wantang also nearly done packing, came down and asked her.

"With Assistant Instructor Lu, LC's cafeteria isn't bad; want to give it a try?"

Professor Wu sincerely wanted to invite Xie Wantang to have another meal with them, to properly make up for that night when he knew nothing and unintentionally offended her.

Otherwise, in the future, whether Lu Chen can win back his wife or not, if Xie Wantang gets angry and won't let him hold the baby, that would be bad.

"Sorry, Professor Wu, I have an appointment today; next time."

"Sure, that works. Tomorrow is Sunday, rest at home; if you have any questions, just call Lu Chen anytime."

"Okay, goodbye, Professor Wu."

"Mm, stay safe on the road."

"Thanks."

Xie Wantang slung her bag and left; before leaving, she didn't glance at Lu Chen's side even once.

……

Inside the elevator.

Just as Xie Wantang was about to close the doors, the male trainee who had earlier asked for her WeChat suddenly rushed in.

"Xie Wantang, glad I caught you—I just went to the restroom." The male trainee was Zhang Sen, also the first to give a self-introduction on stage today.

Buzzcut, right ear always sporting a Bluetooth earpiece, each outer corner of his eyes had a tiny tattoo—too small for Xie Wantang to see, and she didn't want to.

Xie Wantang said nothing; after he entered, she subtly leaned back, and behind her stood another person—Su Yang.

Su Yang also had a buzzcut, but his face was clean and fresh, pleasant to look at.

Xie Wantang leaned a bit toward Su Yang to avoid Zhang Sen.

Su Yang didn't even greet him; seeing Zhang Sen's flustered manner, he lifted an eyelid, shifted slightly toward the elevator wall, making more room for Xie Wantang.

"By the way, Xie Wantang, have you known Professor Wu for a while?" Zhang Sen turned to face Xie Wantang, acting as if they were close, asking the question casually, without thinking.

"I think those of us interested in voiceprints have all heard Professor Wu's name, so we know him, but he may not know us—Zhang Sen, you say, does that count as being acquainted?"

Xie Wantang's answer was artful—she simply threw the question back at him.

Zhang Sen scratched the back of his head embarrassedly, "You're right—on the first day of class you were summoned to Professor Wu's office; it seems he values you greatly."

All the students present today were handpicked by Professor Wu; I believe he values each trainee.

Not only does he value me—what do you think, Zhang Sen?

"Yes, you're right, but Xie Wantang, could you stop calling me 'Zhang Sen' over and over? I'll call you by name, and you call me by name—okay?"

"……"

Nothing good or bad about it—the elevator arrived.

Ladies first; the two gentlemen in the elevator silently followed that rule, letting Xie Wantang exit first.

Xie Wantang didn't stand on ceremony with them either, since others were waiting for the elevator outside, she just went out first.

Su Yang and Zhang Sen followed after her.

As soon as Zhang Sen stepped out of the elevator, seeing Xie Wantang and Su Yang heading toward the parking lot, Zhang Sen had no car—he had taken a taxi.

Thinking they were fellow classmates, Zhang Sen rolled his eyes in their sockets and shamelessly trailed after Xie Wantang.

"Xie Wantang—" he shouted.

"Zhang Sen, anything else?" Xie Wantang stopped, still addressing him as "Mr. Zhang," not by his given name "Zhang Sen."

Zhang Sen didn't dare correct her again; in the elevator earlier it had just been the three of them, with Su Yang so quiet, he had asked Xie Wantang to call him by name, but she hadn't—indicating she refused.

"Fine, let him be Mr. Zhang then; among classmates, giving each other a ride should be okay, right?"

"Hey Xie Wantang, could I hitch a ride with you? It's hard to get a taxi around here." Zhang Sen scratched the back of his head again.

"Just as Xie Wantang was about to refuse, Su Yang beside her couldn't hold back: 'No way, Mr. Zhang—if you go to the entrance you might spot a taxi, and there's also a city shuttle every half hour, quite convenient.'"

"……"

Zhang Sen glared at Su Yang dissatisfied—he wanted a ride from Xie Wantang, not from him; what more did he need to say?

"No, Mr. Su—I'm talking to Xie Wantang, not you, okay?"

"Sorry, I have a dinner appointment, I'm in a rush, I'm leaving now." Xie Wantang glanced back at Su Yang, "Thanks."

"You're welcome." Su Yang replied with a smile.

Xie Wantang turned and walked away; Zhang Sen still wanted to chase after her.

But Su Yang blocked his path: "Mr. Zhang, on the first day of school you're already hounding the female trainees—aren't you afraid of being urged to withdraw?"

"I..." Zhang Sen knew perfectly well why he was here—to learn skills from Professor Wu.

Besides, this doesn't really count as hounding Xie Wantang, does it?

Is Su Yang being too rude?

When Xie Wantang pulled out in her red Porsche 718, Zhang Sen was dumbfounded.

It's a two-seater—no wonder Xie Wantang didn't want to give him a ride.

Given his limited experience, that car of Xie Wantang's was the most expensive, luxurious vehicle he had ever seen.

Who is Xie Wantang?

So young, and already able to drive a luxury car?

She looks so flamboyant; although her outfit isn't great, her facial features are so three‑dimensional and recognizable.

With just a little makeover, she could outshine even a first‑rate star.

She can't be getting kept by a rich guy, can she?

Of course, it's possible—Xie Wantang is actually a rich‑family heiress.

If that's the case, no wonder they ignore her.

But if Xie Wantang truly is a rich‑family heiress, he still insists on trying.

If he can successfully hook up with a rich heiress, it's not just a matter of shaving off ten or twenty years; he'll never have to worry about food and drink for the rest of his life.

"Thanks, Su classmate, I'm going to hail a taxi." After Zhang Sen acquired a grand ambition, he no longer kept a grudge against Su Yang.

Su Yang turned toward the parking lot, and five minutes later, he rode out on a racing scooter.

After nearly catching up to Xie Wantang's red Porsche, Su Yang slowed down, silently following her in the outer lane.

While Xie Wantang was stopped at the traffic light, Xu Yanqiu called her, asking when she would arrive. She was almost ready, with only a fish left; she wanted to steam it when Xie Wantang arrived quickly, otherwise it would be too old and not tasty.

When the red turned green, Xie Wantang turned left and replied, "Let's steam it in half an hour; I'll go buy you two durians you love in a bit."

"Thanks, treasure, one is enough; two would be too many to finish."

"Put it in the fridge and eat it slowly," Xie Wantang suggested.

"Treasure, you're so nice."
