Chapter 43: The Beginning of Conflict

~6 min read 1,021 words

Ge Lei Te, startled, covered her mouth, her eyes widened, standing dumbfounded in place, staring unblinking at the scene inside, and her mind was a blank.

After a long while, because Ge Lei Te got up, Han Saier, who was awakened by the noise, also emerged, still unable to sleep.

When he saw his sister curiously eyeing the carriage in front of Fulade, Han Saier, not understanding what was happening, couldn't help but move closer out of curiosity.

Only when a branch snapped with a "creak~" did the dazed Ge Lei Te snap awake.

When she noticed her brother Han Saier about to approach the carriage, Ge Lei Ta felt a sudden tension; for some reason she didn't want him to see the situation, and she quickly pulled the bewildered Han Saier away.

At this moment, Fulade, whose mood was a bit restless, paid no attention to what was outside.

Instead, he watched Mina, whose breath rose and fell sensually on his body.

Her fair skin showed an abnormal rose hue, fine beads of sweat occasionally sliding down her slender waist as her body rose and fell.

Beside her, Malisika also wore a distant expression.

These past days, because Alide'anna's family was traveling together, Fulade had been quite disciplined.

Even when faced with Malisika's occasional teasing and flirtation, he remained unmoved.

But after seeing that strange relief mural last night, Malisika, realizing Fulade might have something on his mind, wanted to help him relax, so she teamed up with Mina and extended an invitation to him.

This time, due to his restless heart and premonition, Fulade did not refuse; after using energy to block the carriage's sounds, he began to indulge.

Thus the previous scene occurred.

Soon after Ge Lei Te left, Mina, her body stiff, collapsed into Fulade's arms, finally ending this somewhat hasty encounter.

The three of them, however, paid no heed to the fact that outside the carriage, a figure had once silently watched them.

"Ka-ka~"

He shifted his slightly stiff body, looked at Fulade as night fell, and, as usual, dressed and left early.

But when he stepped out, his expression froze; he hadn't expected Han Saier and his sister to have already gotten up.

Fulade didn't think further, but walked over and warmly greeted Han Saier and the Ge Lei Te siblings.

"Two little ones, why are you up so early today?" Fulade asked with a smile, looking at them.

Unexpectedly, Ge Lei Te, who had been eager to get close to him whenever possible these days, today kept averting her gaze, occasionally blushing inexplicably.

Although Fulade was a bit puzzled, he didn't mind much.

Meanwhile, Han Saier beside him chattered nonstop as usual.

Seeing they were overly excited, Fulade chuckled, "Becoming a Wizard isn't that easy; there's a lot you need to learn, so be mentally prepared."

"I can't deny that one day I'll need you two little ones to protect me," Fulade said with a smile to the siblings.

"We'll definitely become great Wizards, and when we grow up we'll protect you, Uncle Fulade," Han Saier said confidently.

Even Ge Lei Te, whose gaze had been evasive, couldn't help but look at Fulade and nod in agreement.

Fulade smiled at the two overconfident youngsters, patted their youthful shoulders as encouragement, then turned toward the forest stream.

He scooped a handful of cool stream water, splashed his face, stood up, and suddenly looked to the sky. A dense, crowded swarm of ghostly bats flashed from the distant horizon, swooping toward the far side of the forest.

Watching the bats head into the forest, after a brief thought, a bat suddenly emerged from his body, leisurely circled Fulade once, then flew upward, chasing the swarm.

Then Fulade calmly turned back, went to the carriage, and began preparing the morning meal.

As a pot of fragrant wild meat and mushroom soup finished cooking, its aroma spread around the camp, making the sibling helpers salivate.

Dressed, Malisika and Mina stepped down from the carriage, and upon smelling the scent exclaimed in disbelief, "Oh~Master, I had no idea you had such skill," Malisika shouted.

"There are many skills you don't know," Fulade raised an eyebrow, teasing lightly.

Seeing this, Malisika immediately gave Fulade an ambiguous, teasing expression, clearly the little girl whose thoughts were already slipping, apparently misunderstanding something.

It left the sibling pair Han Saier staring dumbfounded.

Especially Ge Lei Te flushed deeply, evidently recalling something, and her gaze toward the others remained odd.

Mina stepped forward, ladled a bowl of broth, tasted it, and praised it endlessly.

Previously, most of the camp's meals had been handled by her and Alide'anna.

But today, after a delay, the early-rising Fulade voluntarily took over the task.

Mina never expected Fulade to have such cooking skill.

Beyond the praise, her eyes shone brightly at Fulade.

By now everyone had finished tidying up and gathered around.

When the group had eaten enough, a bat suddenly landed on Fulade's shoulder, chirped a few times, then turned into a wisp of gray smoke that pierced his mind.

Immediately, scene after scene played in his mind like a movie, as vivid as if seen with his own eyes.

Dozens of armored knights escorted a carriage, racing along a road flanked by dense jungle and towering trees.

It was clear they were hurrying, their expressions showing obvious panic.

After dismissing the meaningless images, a swarm of bats descended from the sky, turning into vampires that stormed the convoy, slaughtering.

Although the knights were well equipped, it was evident they had seen little combat, inflicting little damage on the vampire.

As casualties rose, many weak-willed knights began to flee.

But the vampire intercepted them all.

Upon closer look, it was clearly one of the vampire bodyguards that Fulade had left beside Weiluona.

The knights he pursued, judging by the insignia on their armor, were clearly Holy Court's missionary knights.

"They actually clashed with the Holy Court; now's not a good time," Fulade murmured.
