Chapter 49: Scumbag, I'll Bite You to Death (Dear readers, please keep reading!!)
At the top of the castle, the master bedroom.
Fulade sat upright at his desk, processing briefings from all sides of the kingdom.
Yet for some unknown reason, a strange expression would flash across Fulade's face from time to time.
Fulade's brow suddenly tightened as he reached under the desk and grabbed hard.
"Mmm~"
Whimpers and faint sounds of movement suddenly rose from beneath the desk, followed by a bout of coughing.
"Phew~"
His tightly furrowed brow suddenly relaxed as he let out a long breath.
Only then did Fulade say, "Is this how you repay Malina, Sibyl?"
As the words fell, Sibyl climbed out from under the desk, her face flushed and her hair disheveled, and after a bout of dry coughs, she shot Fulade a slightly seductive glare.
Fulade smiled at the corner of his mouth, handed Sibyl a tissue, and said:
"Your technique is terrible. Go back and practice more."
Hearing Fulade's teasing, Sibyl's face immediately turned crimson, but she had no retort.
After a long while, having set down the water cup in her hand, Sibyl, now recovered, leaned forward on the desk and gazed fixedly at Fulade as he reviewed the reports.
Looking at this girl who had suddenly come running over, wanting to give herself to him.
Fulade had no choice but to set down the reports in his hand and asked in puzzlement, "What is going on? This isn't your usual style."
Sibyl fell silent for a moment: "My father wants to marry me off."
Hearing this, Fulade couldn't help saying, "Isn't that quite normal? You are indeed at the age to marry."
Another long silence passed, then Sibyl suddenly took a deep breath, looked at Fulade, and said:
"I like you, I've liked you since I was little, but back then you only ever played with Malina, so I had to go find Malina every day just to get close to you. I'm about to be married, and I don't want to leave myself with any regrets."
After saying that, Sibyl lifted her gorgeous blue skirt and ran out without looking back, leaving Fulade somewhat dumbfounded.
A moment later, Fulade, seeming to realize something, called for the captain of the guard, Dumitelu.
"Go investigate what Count Gramtham has been doing these past few days. Also, keep the gossip about Miss Sibyl within the city under control. Go take care of it at once."
Hearing Fulade's orders, Dumitelu immediately departed to carry them out.
"Sigh, I should have thought of this sooner. After something like this happened, Grantham would definitely want to marry Sibyl off quickly before the rumors spread completely — and marry her far away at that."
Sure enough, Grantham, who had stormed out of the council hall last time upon hearing the news of the clergy fleeing, had begun selecting a husband for Sibyl within just a few short days of returning.
The candidates were either minor lords from remote areas or reasonably wealthy landowners and merchants. In this era, with inconvenient transportation, as long as the distance was far enough, the spread of rumors could be entirely avoided.
Even if word got out, by then it would already be a done deal.
Sigh, no wonder Sibyl had been looking so gloomy these past few days, and today even took the initiative to come over and offer herself.
Come to think of it, did I really have that much charm even as a child, to make Sibyl remember me fondly all this time?
"Clever little girl," Fulade suddenly shook his head and chuckled.
At dusk, Malina walked into Fulade's study with a face full of indignation.
She set down the briefing in her hands regarding the various preparations and enrollment progress of the Wizard Academy.
Fulade asked with a puzzled look, "Who has upset you, dear Miss Malina?"
"Hmph, this time you have to help Sibyl!"
"Her father, Count Grantham, wants to marry Sibyl off to some faraway place for the sake of his so-called family honor — and this wasn't even her fault! What's more, the man she's supposed to marry is apparently a dwarf!"
Looking at Malina, who was fuming with indignation and pacing back and forth as she championed Sibyl's cause, Fulade couldn't help but chuckle.
"And you're still laughing! Sibyl grew up following you around, after all. Have you no empathy at all?"
Looking at Malina, who was on the verge of throwing a fit and fuming with anger, Fulade quickly sat up straight, gave a dry cough, and said:
"How did you find out about all this? Did Sibyl tell you?"
At this point, Fulade couldn't help but knit his brow.
Malina walked straight over to the side and sat down, saying with dissatisfaction, "If I waited for her to tell me, she'd probably already be married by then. I heard it from someone else."
Hearing these words, Fulade's brow gradually relaxed. He stood up, went behind Malina, and whispered by her ear, "My Queen, please calm your anger and give me a chance to redeem myself, won't you?"
Malina turned her head and shot him a rather coquettish glare. "You're asking for death! Who said I want to marry you? You've got one sweet line after another — go sweet-talk your little lovers instead."
"What~ Are you jealous?"
Fulade pulled Malina to her feet, sat down in the chair, and then wrapped his arm around Malina, pulling her into his embrace.
"Hmph~"
Looking at Malina, who had turned her head away and pouted her rosy lips, Fulade whispered softly by her ear:
"Malina, do you know that in my twenty-odd years of life, you have always been the harbor of my soul? Because of you, I was able to persevere through endless war without breaking down.
In my heart, you have always been irreplaceable."
Malina's delicate body trembled. She looked at Fulade, a tenderness passing through her eyes, her lips moving softly several times.
"Then why did you bring back so many women?"
The faint resentment in her tone made it clear that Malina had been holding this in for quite some days.
Fulade gave an awkward laugh, hesitated for a moment, and then told her the truth: "I had my reasons for doing so."
Malina pursed her lips and said, "That's still no excuse for being a scumbag."
Fulade's face suddenly darkened. He stood up and said to Malina before him, "Watch closely."
A gentle breeze blew in from the castle terrace.
Under Malina's shocked gaze, a pair of broad bat wings spanning over two meters suddenly unfurled from behind Fulade.
Then, amid Malina's stunned stare, he suddenly scooped her up, and amid her cries of alarm, sped swiftly away beyond the castle.
After a round of aerial waltzing in the cool night air, it was only under Malina's fierce reproach that they finally returned to the castle.
Looking at the pale-faced Malina, Fulade said with a mischievous grin:
"How about it, Malina? I've helped you realize your childhood dream — no need to thank me."
"Grrr~~"
Her small face pale and gasping for breath, Malina glared resentfully at Fulade. Before she had even caught her breath, she suddenly pounced on him and said:
"I'll bite you to death!"
After the two had their bout of horseplay, Malina caught her breath, sat on Fulade, and said:
"Is that your excuse for me! You jerk."
"Ugh, I'm so mad! I'll bite you to death."
"Hey, are you a puppy? Don't bite my neck — I have a meeting tomorrow."
Fulade, clutching his neck, looked at the thoroughly satisfied and smug-looking Malina, speechless. "How old are you now, and you're still the same as when you were little."
"Hmph~ That was still on the light side."
Though she said so, Malina hadn't actually used much force.
Glancing up at the sky, Malina said, "It's already this late. I need to head back."
"My lady, can't you keep me company a little longer? There are so many rooms here — just sleep here."
Malina wrinkled her delicate nose. "Hmph~ Go find your little lover."
With that, she walked out without looking back.
"Oh right, don't forget about Sibyl's matter. You need to put more heart into it — it's the least you can do after she's been thinking of you all this time."
Malina had come back again, and after saying this she shot Fulade a fierce glare — this time truly leaving without looking back.
"Malina actually knows!? But then again, they've known each other for so many years, they must have some understanding of each other's thoughts." Fulade was first surprised, then enlightened.
After all, Malina herself was very clever, whereas Sibyl was not a girl skilled at hiding her emotions.
