Chapter 58: Mysterious Power

~5 min read 969 words

Victor Castle, council hall.

Fulade sat on a black iron chair, with the little girl Sonia yawning behind him.

From the dark circles under her eyes, it was clear she hadn't slept soundly last night.

Especially when her gaze unintentionally fell on Fulade, her eyes turned shy, and her tiny heart seemed about to leap out of her chest.

Sonia was instantly frightened, hurriedly diverting her gaze in panic, then unintentionally glancing back at Fulade's figure.

It seemed as if a strange power there always drew her eyes.

For a moment, Sonia was playing so joyfully she couldn't stop.

To Fulade's side stood Amelia, with a cold, proud expression, exuding a sharp chill that gave off an untouchable, icy beauty.

If not for what Sonia saw with her own eyes last night, she would never have believed that Aunt Amelia could have that unknown side.

Seeing Maku, looking like a dead dog thrown on the ground, Fulade turned his head toward Weiluona.

Weiluona said, "Master, this guy keeps trying to run; there's nothing we can do but be ruthless."

Fulade nodded, then looked at Victor and said, "Victor, you're doing well; for now, continue handling the affairs here."

"Do a good job; I won't shortchange you, right, Sonia?"

Fulade said as he pulled the little girl Sonia into his arms and placed her on his lap.

His fingers gently brushed Sonia's delicate cheek, while his gaze remained on Victor.

At this moment, the Sonia suddenly embraced by Fulade lowered her head, her face flushed with shame, and her body trembled slightly.

Especially after noticing the father's gaze from across, Sonia felt her face heat up and became at a loss.

She could only bury her little head in Fulade's embrace, acting like an ostrich.

Seeing the extremely shy girl in his lap, Fulade stopped further teasing.

He did so merely to send a signal to Victor.

Releasing Sonia from his lap, Fulade said, "Sonia is fine; let her stay by my side to serve from now on."

Victor replied without hesitation, "It is Sonia's honor, Prince."

Fulade nodded, said nothing more, and walked to Maku's front.

"Stop pretending, stand up and speak."

As he spoke, Fulade's right foot stomped down.

A huge crash sounded, and a pit over half a meter deep and more than three meters wide appeared in the hall.

Around it were dense, spiderweb-like massive cracks extending outward.

Victor and the others, who understood Fulade's power, were unfazed.

But for the little girl Sonia behind him, the impact was indeed overwhelming.

She gasped, her already not‑small rosy lips widening, and looked at Fulade in disbelief, as if finally truly recognizing him.

"Come down~!!" Weiluona suddenly raised her head and shouted loudly toward the ceiling of the hall.

Only then did everyone snap back to reality, looking at Maku hovering above the hall.

Maku stared at the terrifying destruction on the ground with a frightened face; had he not noticed something amiss in time, he might have died or been seriously injured. When he saw Fulade's cold gaze, Maku quickly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and respectfully fell before Fulade.

At this moment, he dared not try any more tricks.

Looking at Maku's brown, medium‑length hair, Fulade asked, "Do you know why I called you here?"

Maku's eyes narrowed, and he answered cautiously, "I don't know."

"No, you do," Fulade said, his eyes narrowing slightly.

He didn't expect that a simple probing question would actually yield something.

When Maku responded cautiously, Fulade's suspicion in his heart became even more certain.

In Legend of the Night, Yalishanda Kewensi contracted a certain plague, gaining the ability of eternal immortality.

Consequently, his three children each inherited a different kind of power.

But the question is, what kind of plague could create such a genetic mutation in humans?

In this extraordinary world, the answer is already clear: it was caused by some extraordinary power.

And the extraordinary power that could cause such a phenomenon would certainly not be that simple.

That is why Fulade sought out Maku.

"Then let me remind you, tell me where your father encountered the plague," Fulade said word for word.

At the same time, he activated telepathy, sensing Maku's thoughts.

Being an extraordinary being himself, Maku's resistance to telepathy was clearly higher than that of ordinary people, but it was sufficient for Fulade.

After noticing little change in the other's mindset and without waiting for an answer, Fulade further asked, "Or what did your father do that caused him not to die in that plague?"

"I don't understand what you're saying," Maku said calmly, frowning.

Having received an answer, Fulade smiled, "You don't think I'm a fool, do you? A plague created an immortal human."

And his three children—one became a vampire, another a werewolf—so tell me why only your father survived that plague and gained this incredible change.

Fulade pressed him word by word, leaving Maku speechless.

Seeing Maku open his mouth several times without saying anything, Fulade ignored the others' astonished gazes and continued:

"It seems even you know this matter cannot stand up to scrutiny."

Maku took a deep breath and suddenly said, "How do you know so clearly? I don't think I've mentioned this to anyone else."

Seeing Maku's puzzled eyes, Fulade only gave a slight smile, looking inscrutably profound.

"Could it be..." Maku's gaze flickered, as if recalling something, muttering.

Fulade, seeing this, was speechless, ignored Maku's self‑fabricated thoughts, and said directly, "Now you can tell me, or... you want to die!" Fulade's gaze hardened, a terrifying killing aura instantly enveloped Maku.

Maku, who had been daydreaming, suddenly felt his scalp tingle and his anus clenched.

He understands that if his answer cannot satisfy Fulade, he fears he won't be able to leave this hall today.
