Chapter 1022: Zerg Attack on Ximao Star (1)

~6 min read 1,090 words

"Jianbao" base, headquarters of the Shengxue Angel Dishilian.

Company Commander Kashiusiluo stood before the holographic tactical sand table, which clearly displayed the full view of Ximao Star, as well as the locations and status of every major settlement and outpost.

Company Commander Kashiusiluo had just finished communicating with the commanders of all major defensive nodes, and his orders were simple.

Protect civilians to the maximum extent, use all fortifications to delay and exhaust the enemy, and the Angels will serve as the fire brigade and the sharp knife of counterattack.

The Communications Officer looked up.

"Company Commander, latest data: the Chongqun Xian Dao Spore Cyst Jijun has broken through the near-orbit defense network. The first wave of impact and airborne landing is expected to occur simultaneously across the planet within fifteen to twenty standard minutes. Interference intensity continues to rise, and stable communication with the nearest fleet and the Seventh Star Sector has been almost completely severed."

Company Commander Kashiusiluo spoke.

"Notify all units to prepare for the impact. Tell the Cadians and the Wentuiliya to hold the line and kill efficiently. Tell all civilians... tell them that the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance, with His warriors, with His people, stands with them."

The order was passed down.

Under the dim lights of various shelters, the huddled gravel-folk, technical personnel, and merchants lowered their heads before the Xiuluo Holy double-eagle emblem on the wall, guided by Administrators and military chaplains.

They might not fully understand the profound doctrines of the Star Alliance, but they prayed sincerely at this moment, praying that the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance, which protected them from the oppression of the Fengqi, could once again manifest a miracle and lead them through this crisis.

Frontier Outpost "Lone Peak"

Inside the outpost, 10 Cadian soldiers were at their respective posts.

Sergeant Jakesi stood behind the main observation port and spoke.

"Everything checked?"

"Don't worry, Boss! 'Old Girl' is fed full, just waiting to feast!"

Private Kroger, operating the Heavy Bolter, grinned and patted the body of the Heavy Bolter.

"Laser Gun battery is full, spare energy packs are right at hand."

Private Jenkins licked his chapped lips and said.

"Automatic Turret self-test complete, firing sectors cover the main passage and the east and west wings."

Technical Soldier Harkens, responsible for the defense system, confirmed without looking up.

"Listen, boys, we aren't here for a vacation. The land beneath our feet is now under the protection of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance! If those Alien bastards want to step over, they'll have to ask the gear in our hands if it agrees!"

Jakesi paused and continued.

"We might die. And it's highly likely. But before we die, we will make those bugs remember the price of provoking the Cadians! We will let the rear know which direction these monsters came from and how they did it! So, keep your eyes open for me, aim true, and even if you die, die with value! Understand?!"

"Understood!"

Just then, the sound of landing impacts came from the sand outside the observation port.

Dozens, hundreds... countless hideous creatures descended from the sky!

They varied in size, some as small as hounds, others as large as troop carriers, covered in slick, sticky carapaces, shimmering with purple or green ghostly light.

Sickle-shaped forelimbs, whip-like tentacles, gaping maws dripping with acidic saliva...

These Zerg emitted sharp hisses and surged toward the outpost!

"They're here!"

Jenkins's voice carried a trace of trembling.

Jakesi growled.

"Steady! Let the Automatic Turrets greet them first! Harkens!"

"Received! Open fire!"

Harkens pressed the button on the control panel.

"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"

The four Automatic Turrets deployed at the corners of the outpost's perimeter spat out deadly tongues of fire.

The twin-linked Heavy Bolters strafed the surging Zerg swarm.

The sickle-bugs and swift-bugs in the lead were torn to shreds, acidic blood and severed limbs splattered everywhere, and the light of explosions flared one after another.

"Nice work! Just like that! Blow these sons of bitches to pieces!"

Kroger roared, his finger hooked on the trigger of the Heavy Bolter.

The Automatic Turrets efficiently harvested the lives of the swarm; within a few dozen seconds, a layer of bug corpses had piled up in front of the outpost.

However, the bugs behind continued to charge over the remains of their own kind, their speed not slowing in the slightest.

"Attention! There are big ones!"

Sniper Molisi Te's voice came over the Communication Device.

In the rear of the insect tide, several massive Heavy Armor Bugs used their strong forelimbs to protect their heads, charging forward while hard-tanking the firepower of the Automatic Turrets! The heavy bolter rounds struck their thick shells, bursting into clusters of fire and leaving holes in the carapaces.

"Kroger! Prioritize the big ones!"

Jakesi ordered.

"Watch me!"

Kroger adjusted the angle of the Heavy Bolter, aimed at the joint of one of the Heavy Armor Bugs, and pulled the trigger.

"Bang bang bang bang!"

A continuous sound of gunfire rang out.

The large-caliber bolter rounds hit the target precisely; the joint of the Heavy Armor Bug's forelimb exploded, dark green plasma gushed out, and it stumbled to the ground, only to be submerged by the following swarm.

"Beautiful!"

Otto shouted from the side.

However, the ammunition for the Automatic Turrets was limited.

Soon, a turret on the east side issued an alarm that it was out of ammunition, and the swarm surged toward the direction that had ceased fire.

"East side gap! Otto, Schneider, get up there! Duncan, use fire to seal the passage!"

Jakesi ordered quickly.

"Received!"

The flamethrower soldier Duncan was the first to rush to the eastern firing port, shouting with a laugh.

"Come on, you stinking bugs! Taste the flavor of a barbecue!"

A scorching dragon of fire shot out from the nozzle, Devouring the dozens of bugs that had charged into the breach.

The high temperature ignited the shells of the Zerg, and the bugs let out shrill, miserable howls, twisting frantically in the flames before quickly turning into charred remains.

"Haha! Burn them well, Duncan!"

Otto and Schneider used the wall of fire created by Duncan as cover, using Laser Guns to pick off the scattered bugs attempting to bypass the flames.

Automatic Turrets fell into Silence one after another, and the pressure from the swarm grew greater and greater.

The swarm began to attack using various methods.

Plasma bugs capable of firing Plasma Bombs provided suppressive fire from a distance, while small Plasma Thunder Bugs approached the outpost to self-destruct.
