Chapter 1036: Perhaps, They Never Truly Left
More defensive mechanisms were activated.
Along the path the Legion of the Damned advanced, the fleshy tunnel contracted violently, attempting to crush them.
The leading Legionnaire pointed his burning Power Sword forward; crimson flames spread out, burning the contracting flesh walls into Ashes.
From overhead and beneath their feet, highly viscous acidic slime was secreted.
The slime landed on the burning armor of the Legionnaires, inciting even more vigorous flames, and was completely evaporated.
"They... are unaffected by physical and acidic environments!"
A White Scars Space Marine observing the battlefield couldn't help but exclaim.
The flesh wall split open, and dozens of Zerg units with abnormally large bodies and armor as thick as tanks surged out; they were the Mother Ship's biological tanks, the Crushers.
Several Space Marines on the flank of the formation stopped, their flaming Bolters raised, and the muzzles spat out beams of concentrated crimson Psionic Flame Bullets!
The beams of fire instantly struck the Crushers charging at the front.
That thick armor, capable of withstanding heavy artillery bombardment, was easily pierced in the face of the Psionic Flame.
The flames burrowed into their bodies and then erupted from within, igniting the massive Zerg tanks from the inside out, turning them into a pile of rapidly incinerated and annihilated debris within mere seconds.
"By the Emperor..."
Baruke watched, dumbfounded.
"That's way more intense than my Flamer!"
Kurgan frowned deeply; he noticed that the legion of fire was not invincible.
Under the continuous attacks, the flames on some of the warriors seemed to dim slightly, and their figures also seemed to become more... transparent?
The Mother Ship's consciousness began to mobilize its most powerful psionic units.
In front of the tunnel, space twisted, and dozens of bizarrely shaped Zerg units emerged.
They lacked thick armor and resembled translucent psionic jellyfish, with psionic cysts pulsating at their cores.
Hive Psionics, the local extension and amplifier of the Hive Mind.
As soon as they appeared, a powerful Psychic Storm instantly took shape!
Invisible forces tore at space, and even the White Scars Space Marines could feel static on their helmet displays.
The Psychic Storm rushed toward the Legion of the Damned!
The leading Legionnaire finally stopped.
He raised his burning Power Sword and pointed the tip at the center of the storm.
That violent Psychic Storm was forcibly intercepted the moment it touched the burning sword tip!
Crimson flames spread backward along the invisible psionic torrent, moving faster than light, instantly reaching those Hive Psionics!
"Pfft—!"
The pulsating psionic cores of these Hive Psionic units were invaded and ignited by the crimson flames, bursting into energy dust from the inside out.
"They... they ate... the psionic attack?"
Lal said while running after seeing the scene in the distance.
Kurgan felt his throat go dry.
This had already exceeded the scope of his understanding of power.
The humming of the Mother Ship's core became shrill.
It realized that conventional and unconventional biological and psionic defensive measures were completely ineffective against this group of fiery entities.
Their very existence was dismantling its structure, purifying its spawn, and ignoring its will.
Must... must stop them! At all costs!
The fleshy tunnel began to twist, attempting to interfere with the progress of the intruders.
On the surrounding flesh walls, those glowing tumors burst one after another, releasing clouds of spores carrying potent neurotoxins.
However, for the Legion of the Damned, this was still futile.
The spore clouds approached the field of fire surrounding them and instantly dissipated, unable to cause any effect.
But the Mother Ship's frantic counterattack did not stop.
In front of the tunnel, the fleshy structure began to proliferate wildly, forming an active wall of flesh tens of meters thick, completely sealing the path forward.
Countless compound eyes opened on the surface of the flesh wall, and countless tentacles with suckers and bone spurs extended, waving and lashing out.
The leading Legionnaire raised his left hand and made a simple gesture.
Immediately, nearly ten Legionnaires behind him stepped forward simultaneously; their flame weapons vanished, and they pressed their hands together in front of their chests.
Crimson Psionic Flame gathered and compressed between their palms, forming an increasingly bright orb of light!
Even the White Scars Space Marines rushing up from behind could feel the temperature of the surrounding space rising sharply.
"What... are they doing?" Baruke muttered.
The next second, those ten Legionnaires simultaneously pushed the psionic light orbs toward the massive flesh wall!
The crimson light devoured the entire flesh wall; that incredibly thick biological structure, the moment it touched the light, rapidly dissolved, decomposed, and vaporized!
Within just two or three seconds, the flesh wall vanished without a trace, leaving only a huge hole flickering with red embers in its place.
Behind the hole lay the innermost chamber of the Mother Ship.
The Legion of the Damned did not pause for a moment and charged into the core chamber.
The core chamber was filled with green Psionic Arcs, and the massive core tumor in the center radiated an oppressive, overwhelming will.
Countless Zerg units surged from the flesh walls surrounding the chamber, pouncing on the fifty intruders to make a final counterattack.
But all of this was in vain.
The Legion of the Damned dispersed within the core chamber; each warrior became a mobile incinerator, with crimson Psionic Flame spreading outward from them to the surroundings.
Zerg rushed into the range of the flames and were instantly turned into fly ash.
Psionic Arcs struck their armor, only stirring up ripples before being assimilated and absorbed by the flames.
They swung their flame swords and poured out flame bolter fire in silence; wherever they passed, everything was purified and annihilated.
They charged straight toward the largest core sarcoma in the center of the chamber.
The core sarcoma of the Mother Ship consciousness began to pulsate, countless fissures cracking open on its surface as green psionic light shone through.
Fifty intensely scorching crimson Psionic Flames bombarded the core sarcoma!
"Boom!!!"
The core sarcoma could not withstand the purifying strike of these fifty Legion of the Damned warriors and exploded!
Green psionic turbulence and crimson purifying flames swept outward in all directions!
Kurgan and the others had just arrived at the entrance when they were also blown away by the shockwave, slamming heavily into the fleshy pipes behind them.
The entire interior of the Mother Ship let out a dying wail; all the fleshy structures began to spasm and twitch, and the previously steady light rapidly dimmed.
The light of the explosion gradually dissipated.
Kurgan struggled to climb to his feet and looked into the core chamber.
There, the once-enormous core sarcoma had vanished, leaving behind only a huge, charred crater, with sporadic crimson flames still dancing on its edges.
And those fifty Legion of the Damned warriors...
They were gone.
Just as abruptly as they had appeared, they had now vanished without a trace.
Kurgan stood where he was, silent for a long time.
He looked at Ulton, who was still unconscious in his arms, and then at the White Scars Space Marines behind him, who had also fallen into silence.
"Did they... go back?"
Baruke asked.
Kurgan nodded, his gaze fixed on the purified core area.
"Perhaps, or perhaps they never truly left."
"Task complete. Collect the Gene-seed of our fallen brothers, take Ulton, and we leave this tomb. Damn it, I didn't expect them to be so fast; there was no way to keep up!"
