Chapter 1163: The Battle of Fengqi (2)
These Fengqi are wearing silver-purple exoskeletons, holding energy rifles, and deploying into formation under the command of officers.
Light hover vehicles, "Jaguar" reconnaissance cars and "Liaya" assault cars, drive out from the large landing pods, their turrets beginning to rotate and scan for threats.
"Ground troops have landed and are establishing a beachhead."
The frontline commander reports.
"Encountering sporadic resistance, firepower is not strong... wait, large-scale underground activity detected!"
Dozens of hidden exits suddenly opened in the ruins of the rift.
Gray figures surged out from underground, silently entering pre-set firing positions.
They simply raised the weapons in their hands: laser guns, bolters, flamethrowers, and anti-tank rocket launchers.
The Kriegers had returned to the surface.
The surface, Eternal Wound Rift, ruins of the second line of defense.
When 123-7-379 of the 123rd Regiment, 7th Company of Krieg crawled out of the underground bunker, the world outside had turned into hell.
The original trenches and barbed wire had disappeared, replaced by craters several meters deep and still-smoking lava pools.
The Company Commander had already issued orders with hand signals: enter firing positions and wait for the enemy to enter range.
123-7-379 found a relatively intact ruin, a half-section of concrete wall, likely the foundation of some destroyed fixed artillery emplacement.
He rested his Lucius Pattern 98 Lasgun on the edge of the wall.
Three hundred meters ahead, Fengqi soldiers were deploying into formation; those silver-purple exoskeletons were particularly conspicuous on the gray surface.
"Target, Alien armored vehicles."
Beside him, the rocket launcher operator 123-7-441 nodded and hoisted the anti-tank rocket launcher onto his shoulder.
His target was a "Liaya" assault car that had just landed, which was strafing suspicious areas with an automatic cannon.
123-7-441 placed his finger on the trigger.
The Fengqi troops began to advance.
They adopted a standard assault formation: Guardians in front holding energy shields, regular infantry providing fire support from behind, and vehicles covering the flanks.
123-7-379 waited.
Kriegers are good at waiting. Waiting for the enemy to enter the minefield, waiting for the enemy to enter optimal range, waiting for death to arrive, whether it be the enemy's or their own.
The first "Jaguar" reconnaissance car drove into the minefield.
An anti-tank mine was triggered, spraying a jet of scorching metal upward, piercing the bottom armor of the reconnaissance car.
The vehicle jolted violently, then stalled in place, thick smoke beginning to pour from its interior.
The Fengqi troops paused, and engineers moved forward to clear the mines.
At this very moment.
Thousands of laser guns fired simultaneously.
Crimson beams tore through the air, splashing ripples against the Fengqi energy shields.
Bolters began to roar, and large-caliber bullets punched through the thinner side armor.
Anti-tank rocket launchers fired, the rockets trailing exhaust as they lunged toward the vehicles.
In the first volley, over thirty Fengqi vanguard soldiers fell, and three vehicles were destroyed.
But the counterattack came even faster.
The Guardians raised the heavy energy weapons in their hands and began to return fire.
Energy beams struck the Kriegers' bunkers, melting through the concrete walls, and the soldiers hiding behind them were instantly vaporized.
123-7-441 was struck in the chest by an energy beam while firing his second rocket.
He fell straight backward, the rocket launcher sliding from his hands.
123-7-379 glanced at his comrade's corpse, then continued to aim, fire, reload, and fire again.
The Fengqi troops began to suppress with mortars and grenade launchers.
Explosions occurred continuously around the Krieger positions, each one claiming several lives.
But the Kriegers did not retreat; they did not even look for better cover, because on the surface after orbital bombardment, there is no "better" cover, only ruins that are "still usable."
"Left flank! Vehicle assault!"
Three "Liaya" assault cars flanked from the side, their automatic cannons spraying a dense rain of bullets.
The Krieger position's firepower was suppressed.
Just then, a whistling sound came from the sky.
Rune Bullets fell.
The first Rune Bullet hit the turret of the lead "Liaya," blowing it clean off.
The second hit the hull of the second vehicle, the armor-piercing shell core piercing the engine room.
The third missed slightly, blowing the tracks off the third vehicle.
West highland of the rift, reserve artillery position "B-37".
Lieutenant Lina Klaus's left eye was perfectly synchronized with the rangefinder's data stream, while her right eye stared intently at the observation port's field of view.
"Target confirmed: three Fengqi assault cars, coordinates A-7, B-3, G-9. Movement trajectory prediction uploaded. Windage correction: west-southwest, wind speed 5 meters per second. Visibility: medium."
A few seconds later, the Rune Bullets whistled past and hit the targets precisely.
"Hit. Targets one and two destroyed, target three immobilized.
New target: enemy infantry cluster, coordinates D-12, approximately two platoons in size, moving toward the flank of Krieg B7. Recommend three-round volley."
"Received. 19th Artillery Regiment 3rd Company, target D-12, three-round volley, 0.5-second interval. Load."
Lina adjusted the focus of the rangefinder.
In the magnified view, she could see those Fengqi soldiers' silver-purple exoskeletons, power armor, and standard assault formation, using craters as cover to advance. Very professional tactics, but in front of Mordian artillery...
A single volley, and two platoons lost their combat effectiveness.
"Efficiency."
Lina commented in a low voice, then continued scanning.
"New target: enemy Command Node, coordinate E-5. Enhanced communication signal detected, suspected company-level command post."
"Approved. 8th Artillery Regiment 1st Company, target E-5. Load."
Heavier artillery fire rang out.
They plunged into the ground like javelins, the delayed fuses detonating after penetrating three meters underground.
The shockwave conducted through the soil, capable of collapsing underground structures even without a direct hit.
In the observation instrument, the Fengqi troops in that area were clearly in chaos, a typical sign of interrupted command.
"Hit. Communication signals in the target area have weakened by 70%."
Lina reported.
"Suggest follow-up strike: coordinate Z-8, suspected enemy Mortar position."
"Lieutenant."
Eric's voice came from the side, carrying a hint of tension.
"Enemy observation drone detected, direction southeast, altitude 500, approaching."
Lina immediately shifted the observation direction.
Sure enough, three small drones were flying in from the other end of the rift, their fuselages painted with the purple emblem of Fengqi.
"Artillery Command Center, requesting anti-aircraft support. Observation point facing risk of exposure."
"Received. 47th Anti-Aircraft Company has locked onto targets. Expected to be shot down in fifteen seconds."
Lina watched those drones.
They were circling and scanning, clearly having already discovered this observation point, or at least having discovered an anomaly.
But the Modian people never put all their eggs in one basket.
"Eric, prepare to relocate. Follow Plan B."
The two began to quickly pack up key equipment: Data Pad, encrypted Communication Device, and the core module of the rangefinder.
The other parts of the observation station, such as camouflage netting and backup supplies, could be abandoned.
