Chapter 1171: Counterattack of the Fengkao Shield (1)

~6 min read 1,094 words

In the Fengkao Shield Command Center, Colonel Sitelake looked at the dozens of new icons that had suddenly appeared on the holographic tactical map, and a true smile finally appeared at the corners of his mouth.

"Notify all units: reinforcements have arrived. Repeat, reinforcements have arrived. Titans, and..."

He paused, because smaller, fast-moving light dots had appeared on the tactical map.

"Angels."

A burst of static came through the communication channel, followed by a clear, steady voice.

"This is the Ultramarines Third Company, Sergeant Dekatuosi. We have arrived at the battlefield. Greetings to the ground commander."

"Friend-or-foe identification signals are synchronized, Colonel. However, we suggest you step back; the Emperor's wrath is about to descend."

Sitelake looked at 123-1.

"We need to clear the enemy heavy units at the rift entrance, especially the remaining 'Mammoths' and 'Thunder Beasts'. Ground forces have already suffered heavy losses and cannot advance."

Dekatuosi replied.

"Leave it to us."

In the sky, more drop pods fell.

This time, they were standard-model Space Marine Assault Pods, slamming into the designated area.

The hatches opened, and blue figures rushed out.

Ultramarines.

Their blue Armor remained striking under the dim sky light of Fengkao Shield, and the golden "U" emblem and Roman numeral "XIII" on their shoulder pads were clearly visible.

Saiweilu was the first to step onto the battlefield.

"Third Company, deploy formation. First Squad clear the infantry on the left, Second Squad deal with the vehicles. Third and Fourth Squads follow the Titans and advance."

The orders were concise and clear.

The Ultramarines Space Marines spread out.

Saiweilu knelt on one knee, took a Tactical Scanner from his waist, and inserted it into the ground.

The scanning wave spread out in a ring.

"Detected seventeen heavy vehicles, nine walking mechs, infantry units... scattered in three main clusters."

He raised his head, the red light of his helmet's eyepiece flickering once.

"Friends of the Titans, which part do you want?"

A low voice with a mechanical resonance came through the communication channel; it was the Titan commander speaking directly through a neural link.

"Leave the big ones to us. You handle the small troubles."

"Deal."

Saiweilu stood up, the sound of a Bolter chambering a round clearly audible in the communication channel.

"Third Company, attack."

The first Warhound-class Titan took its first step.

The Titan locked onto the nearest Fengqi "Mammoth" walking mech.

That "Mammoth" had just destroyed a Krieg Chimera Armored Vehicle and was turning to find its next target.

It saw the Titan.

The three eyes of the Fengqi mech pilot widened to the limit inside the cockpit.

"What is that thing?!"

He screamed on the internal channel.

"Command! We have discovered an enemy super-heavy unit! Requesting immediate orbital strike!"

The Warhound Titan's plasma blast gun began to charge.

Fire.

A two-meter-diameter Energy Beam tore through the battlefield, hitting the torso of the "Mammoth" mech.

The part of the "Mammoth" mech that was hit was directly vaporized, including the armor, internal structure, pilot, and everything else.

A five-meter-diameter hole appeared in the middle of the mech, the edges of the metal melted into Lava-like drips.

Losing its structural support, the "Mammoth" swayed, then fell to the side.

When it hit the ground, it broke into two pieces.

"One shot..."

Keman watched, dumbfounded, from inside the Leman Russ Tank.

"One shot and..."

"This is a Titan, an extension of the Emperor's wrath."

Sitelake's voice came through the communication.

"Now, all ground units, coordinate with the Titans and Space Marines to advance. This is our chance."

But the Fengqi military did not collapse.

Instead, the remaining "Mammoths" and "Thunder Beasts" began to assemble, forming a defensive circle.

Their commander realized the gravity of the situation.

If these giant war machines could not be stopped, the entire ground force would be crushed.

"All heavy units, concentrate fire! Attack the one in the lead!"

Eight "Mammoths" and eleven "Thunder Beasts" fired simultaneously.

Energy Beams, Rune Bullets, and Missiles poured toward "Indomitable Wrath" like a rainstorm.

The Warhound Titan's Void Shield lit up, and a pale blue Energy Barrier formed a spherical shield around it.

The attacks slammed into the shield, erupting in a brilliant but deadly light.

The Void Shield flickered and fluctuated, but it firmly blocked all attacks.

"Shield strength down by 10%."

The Titan captain reported calmly.

"Still within acceptable limits."

Its twin-barreled Turbo Laser Destructor turned toward a Thunder Beast heavy tank.

This time it was not a full-power shot, but a precise burst.

The Energy Beam burned through the front armor of the Thunder Beast, drilled into the interior of the vehicle, and detonated the ammunition compartment.

The tank exploded from within, and the turret spun as it flew twenty meters into the air.

As the ground trembled from the Titan's arrival, the Ultramarines Space Marines cut into the battlefield.

Saiweilu led the First Squad straight into the densest area of the Fengqi infantry.

Each burst from the Bolter took out at least one enemy. When the Chainsword swung, the energy armor of the Fengqi soldiers was sliced open like paper.

Their movement speed made even the most agile scouts appear clumsy.

An Ultramarine was hit directly in the chest by a rocket.

The explosion knocked him back two steps, leaving a charred mark on his chest plate, but that was all.

He looked down at the damage, then raised his Bolter, and a three-round burst took care of the Rocket Launcher operator and two loaders.

Battlefield data constantly refreshed on Saiweilu's tactical helmet.

The fifty warriors of the Third Company were fighting twenty times their number; although they had Titan support, casualties were inevitable.

In fact, the first casualty report had already come through the communication channel.

"Fourth Squad, Wusi has fallen. Chest pierced by a Heavy Laser Cannon. Gene-seed has been recovered."

Wusi. That young warrior who liked to recite ancient poetry after training.

"Received. Continue the advance."

Fight for the Emperor, die for the Human race.

Dekatuosi charged into a Fengqi infantry position.

Four enemies opened fire on him simultaneously.

Energy Beams struck his Power Armor, splashing sparks.

He ignored the attacks, fired three bursts from his Bolter, and three enemies fell.

The fourth enemy drew a vibrating blade and charged up, screaming.

Dekatuosi sidestepped, grabbed the opponent's wrist, snapped it, and then shattered the opponent's sternum with a punch.

The entire process took less than three seconds.

Dekatuosi gave the order over the communication channel.

"First Squad, left flank cleared. Turn to support the Second Squad; they are dealing with enemy Self-propelled Artillery."

"Received, Sergeant."
