Chapter 1233: The Fate of the Resister

~7 min read 1,256 words

Sanguinius stopped his steps and looked toward the direction of the sound.

From the ruins, a hand reached out, followed by a blood-covered figure.

It was Menelaus, the Commander-in-Chief of the Viridis Defense Force.

His left arm was already severed, there was a massive wound on his chest, and of his three eyes, only one could still open.

"You..."

He crawled out of the ruins with difficulty and knelt on the ground.

"You are... that Angel..."

Sanguinius looked at him, his expression unchanged.

"What do you want to say?"

Menelaus raised his head and looked at him with his only remaining eye.

"We... were wrong. We... should not have resisted... should not have believed... those slogans... those lies..."

Sanguinius watched him in silence.

"Do you regret it?"

"Regret..."

Menelaus gave a miserable laugh.

"What is the use... my soldiers... my kin... are all dead... just because my cousin... that idiot... thought you... would not dare to strike to kill..."

Sanguinius walked in front of him and looked down at him.

"Do you know, before I descended, I gave you a chance. Six full hours, my fleet waited in orbit. If you had surrendered within those six hours, I could have treated you with mercy."

He paused.

"But you did not. You were reveling. You were celebrating. You were mocking us for not daring to act."

Menelaus's body trembled slightly.

"We... we did not know..."

"Did not know?"

Sanguinius shook his head.

"Stupidity is not a crime, but being stupid enough to think one can resist the strong is a crime."

He turned around, no longer looking at Menelaus.

"Give him a quick death."

He said to the Adjutant.

The Adjutant nodded and raised his Bolter.

Menelaus closed his eyes.

A gunshot rang out.

"Viridis."

Sanguinius said in a low voice.

"A beautiful planet. A pity it was ruled by idiots."

He spread his wings, preparing to take off.

"Father,"

The Adjutant said suddenly.

"There is one more thing."

"Speak."

"We found the corpse of Selasus Viridian in the basement of the Archon's palace."

Sanguinius said.

"Dispose of it. Along with the other Aliens."

"Yes."

He leaped into the air, his wings shining with golden light under the sun.

Below, Viridis was burning.

Six hours later, the resistance on Weilidisi Xing was completely quelled.

Sanguinius stood before the porthole of the flagship, looking at the planet below that had already quieted down.

The Adjutant reported from the side, "The rescued Human kin have all boarded the ships, ready to be sent to the rear. The medical officer says they are mostly malnourished, some have external injuries, but they will basically all survive."

Sanguinius nodded.

"Tell them the Emperor has not forgotten them. The Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance will never abandon its own kin."

"Depart. Next target."

"Yes."

The Transport Ship slowly ascended, leaving the orbit of Viridis.

Those Aliens who once reveled, once shouted, and once thought they could use stupidity to resist power, had fallen into eternal silence.

This is the fate of fools.

This is the end for those who resist.

"Fengchi" flagship.

In the private cabin at the rear of the Bridge, Yingzhou sat on a simple chair, and the Holographic Star Map in front of him displayed the star sector they were currently traversing.

The scar on his chest had faded much more than it had a few days ago, but it was still faintly visible.

Jaghatai stood before the viewing window, watching the distorted warp light outside.

He held a cup of White Scars drink in his hand.

It was brewed with spicy herbs from a frontier planet, refreshing the mind and leaving a long-lasting aftertaste.

"Father."

Jaghatai turned around and handed the cup to Yingzhou.

"Luojia just sent word that all the independent planets have been dealt with."

Yingzhou took the cup and took a sip.

The spicy taste gave him a mental boost.

"Tell me in detail."

Jaghatai sat down opposite him and brought up a holographic projection, displaying the summary of the battle reports sent by Luojia.

"Kasadelan, handled by Guilliman. All Aliens were wiped out. That Commander named Kaste thought Guilliman would care about civilian casualties and would lay siege to negotiate, but Guilliman went straight for an orbital drop and resolved the battle in four hours. Before he died, he was still shouting, 'You can't do this'."

Yingzhou raised an eyebrow.

"Who did he think Guilliman was? A merciful good guy?"

Jaghatai laughed.

"Aurelia, handled by Horus. All Aliens were wiped out. That industrial tycoon Falkus thought Horus wouldn't dare destroy the factories, but Horus blew up all three hundred of his factories, not a single one left. It is said that before Falkus died, he was still saying, 'You need our industrial capacity'."

Yingzhou shook his head.

"Industrial capacity? Industry without military protection is just a pile of targets waiting to be blown up."

"Corinsis, handled by Ferrus. A group of scientists made a bunch of so-called new weapons, thinking they could fight us. But their firewall was cracked by Ferrus in three seconds, and all their weapons were paralyzed before they could even be used. That chief scientist Zeno, before he died, was still saying, 'I thought we were ahead'."

The corners of Yingzhou's mouth lifted slightly.

"Ahead? Just wishful thinking."

"Vas Corellia, handled by Vulkan. All Aliens were wiped out. That manager named Maximus was still begging for mercy before he died, saying he could give us ore. And he saved quite a few Human compatriots."

Jaghatai paused, his tone carrying a hint of emotion.

"Vulkan is Vulkan. To him, those Human compatriots are more important than the value of this planet."

Yingzhou nodded, a flash of warmth in his eyes.

"Vulkan has always been like this."

"Estella, handled by Lion. All Aliens were wiped out. A group of fanatics thought their god would protect them. That High Priest Amon was still praying before he died, but the statue of the god was split in two by Lion with one sword strike. It is said that he finally became clear-headed at the end, saying, 'I deceived everyone'."

Jaghatai concluded: "In total, seven planets, all Aliens wiped out. Approximately 3 million Human slaves rescued."

Yingzhou picked up the cup and took another sip.

"Stupidity is not limited by race."

Jaghatai was stunned for a moment, then smiled.

"Father, you are absolutely right."

Yingzhou spoke up.

"Those civilians who partied along with them. Those who shouted slogans in the squares, bragged in taverns that they could take on three people at once, and mocked us on social media for not daring to make a move. They partied, cheered, and believed those stupid lies along with those fools. Aren't they stupid too?"

Jaghatai was in Silence for a second, then nodded.

"You are right. They are the stupidest ones. Those leaders could at least die like leaders, but them? They died without knowing why, and until the moment they died, they didn't know why they were dying."

He picked up his own cup and took a big gulp.

"However, Father, do you think this might be a common failing of Aliens? Blind confidence, underestimating the enemy, always feeling they have something special?"

Yingzhou shook his head.

"It's not a common failing of Aliens. Humans have it too. How many times in history have self-righteous fools dragged an entire civilization into the Shenyuan? It's just that our civilization is lucky; there are always one or two clear-headed people who appear at the last moment to pull everyone back."
