Chapter 1288: Canaan Star Alliance Prepares for Experiment (1)
The Capital Star of the Canaan Star Alliance, the official residence of Viridius.
Viridius sat in the study, eyes fixed on the holographic projection on the table, which displayed the latest intelligence from the border of the Canaan Star Alliance.
The Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance had stationed troops on the border of the Ash Star Alliance.
Three planets.
His brows furrowed slightly.
That raven Corax, he truly would not return empty-handed.
The assassination incident, no matter who did it, had given him an excellent excuse.
Now, the nail had been driven in, and the Ash People could only endure it.
The door was knocked on lightly.
"Come in."
The Adjutant walked in and bowed slightly.
"Speaker, Salmox of the Ash Star Alliance has sent a communication request, hoping to hold a talk with you."
Viridius's brows raised slightly.
"Salmox? He isn't dealing with those garrison matters in the Ash Star Alliance, so why is he looking for me?"
The Adjutant shook his head.
"He did not specify. He only said there is an important matter and he hopes to speak with you in person."
Viridius thought for a moment.
"Connect it."
The holographic projection lit up, and the figure of Salmox appeared in the center of the room.
"Viridius, long time no see."
Viridius nodded.
"Salmox, how is the issue with your garrison troops being handled?"
Salmox gave a wry smile.
"Handled? How can it be handled? The nail is driven into the flesh; it cannot be pulled out, so one can only endure it."
Viridius did not respond.
Salmox continued.
"Viridius, I came to find you not to complain. I want to ask about one thing."
Viridius asked.
"What thing?"
Salmox looked at him.
"Those materials, how is your research on them going?"
Viridius's brows furrowed slightly.
"Salmox, why are you asking about this?"
Salmox said.
"Xanos wants to know, if one day the fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance truly arrives above Fenmie Star, what will we use to block them?"
Viridius was in Silence for a few seconds.
"Salmox, those materials must not be touched."
Salmox shook his head.
"I know you have said that. But you also said that by not touching them, one can at least stay alive. But what if staying alive is just waiting for others to come and kill you?"
Viridius looked at him.
"Salmox, do you want me to share the research results?"
Salmox nodded.
"Yes. If you have researched something, we can share it. If you haven't researched it yet, we can research it together."
Viridius was in Silence for a long time.
Then he said.
"Salmox, I understand your situation. But those materials really cannot be touched. That thing is more terrifying than the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance."
Salmox asked.
"Have you seen that thing?"
Viridius shook his head.
"No. But our scientists have analyzed those materials. The conclusion is that the thing on the other side of that rift is not something we can control. Once opened, no one can close it."
Salmox was in Silence.
Viridius continued.
"Salmox, I know you are having a hard time. But some things cannot be rushed. The Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance will not attack you now. They need time to digest the territory of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance, need time to integrate resources, and need time to deal with threats from other directions. You have time."
Salmox asked.
"How much time?"
Viridius thought for a moment.
"I don't know. Perhaps a few years, perhaps a few decades. But at least, not now."
Salmox was in Silence for a long time.
Then he said.
"Viridius, thank you. I will convey your words to Xanos."
Viridius nodded.
"Good. Take care."
The holographic projection dissipated.
The study fell back into silence.
The Adjutant asked cautiously.
"Speaker, do you really not intend to tell Salmox?"
Viridius looked at him.
"Tell him what?"
The Adjutant said.
"Tell him what we have already researched from those materials."
Viridius shook his head.
"Cannot tell him. If I tell him, he will tell Xanos. If he tells Xanos, Xanos will research those things even more crazily."
He paused.
"Besides, have we really researched anything?"
The Adjutant did not speak.
Viridius left the study, walked through the long corridor, and arrived at a secret chamber in the deepest part of the official residence.
This secret chamber had no windows, and the walls were made of special psionic shielding material, which could isolate all external detection.
In the center of the room was a round table, and three Canaanites sat by the table.
The three stood up simultaneously when they saw Viridius enter.
"Speaker."
The Military Commander spoke.
"What did the Ash Star Alliance say?"
Viridius sat down in the main seat.
"Salmox came to ask about those materials. He wants us to share our research results."
The Chief Scientist's brows furrowed.
"Does he know?"
Viridius shook his head.
"He does not. He only guessed that we were researching. But he guessed correctly."
The Intelligence Chief asked.
"Speaker, did you tell him?"
Viridius shook his head.
"No. I said we hadn't researched anything."
The Military Commander breathed a sigh of relief.
"That is good. Those things must not be known by a second person."
Viridius looked at him.
"To what extent has our research actually progressed?"
The Chief Scientist took a deep breath.
"Speaker, our scientists have completed the theoretical verification. The 'Stable Anchor Point' technology is theoretically feasible. The 'Controllable Opening' technology is theoretically feasible. The 'Low Energy Maintenance' technology is also theoretically feasible."
Viridius asked.
"What about in practice?"
The Chief Scientist was silent for a second.
"In practice, we have not yet conducted any experiments."
The Military Commander asked.
"Why?"
The Chief Scientist said.
"Because the risk is too great. Once the rift is opened, no one knows what will come out from the other side. Furthermore, according to the report from Veriks of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance, there is something on the other side of the rift. That thing is observing, and waiting."
The room was silent for a few seconds.
Viridius spoke.
"So, we can only stop at the theory?"
The Chief Scientist nodded.
"For now, we can only stop at the theory. Unless..."
"Unless what?" the Military Commander pressed.
The Chief Scientist glanced at Viridius.
"Unless we find a safe experimental location. Far from our core regions, far from densely populated areas. Even if a problem occurs, the losses can be controlled."
The Military Commander asked.
"The border? Those desolate planets?"
The Chief Scientist nodded.
"Yes. Uninhabited planets on the border. Our fleet can blockade the entire planet within twenty-four hours, and if there is a problem, we can destroy the experimental facilities at the first opportunity."
Viridius was silent for a long time.
Then he asked.
"What if a bigger problem arises? What if that thing truly comes out, and we cannot seal it?"
The Chief Scientist replied after a few seconds of Silence.
"Then we will have no choice but to destroy the entire star sector."
