Chapter 1295: The Alien That Thought It Could Go Home
The temporary detention facility where the Daikong Star Alliance diplomatic delegation is being held.
This is a gray three-story building, surrounded by high walls and barbed wire, with soldiers standing guard at the entrance.
In a room on the east side of the second floor, Aolana is sitting by the window, looking at the unfamiliar sky outside.
She is a senior Diplomat of the Daikong Star Alliance and the head of the delegation.
Before the war broke out between the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance and the Feng Qi Xing Alliance, she was ordered to lead a delegation to visit the Feng Qi Xing Alliance and conduct normal diplomatic exchanges at Fengrao Starport.
Then the war broke out, their delegation was intercepted, and they were sent here.
She has been here for a long time.
At this moment, a young female Diplomat pokes her head in.
"Aolana! There is news!"
Aolana turns her head.
"What news?"
The young Diplomat walks in and lowers her voice.
"Academician Tuowake says he heard from the guards that the Star Alliance is negotiating with the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance! We might be able to go back soon!"
"Are you sure?"
The young Diplomat nods vigorously.
"Sure! Academician Tuowake heard it with his own ears! The guard said Guilliman has already agreed to our terms and is currently discussing the details!"
Aolana stands up and walks to the door.
"Where is Tuowake?"
"Downstairs. Everyone is waiting for him."
Aolana walks out of the room and heads downstairs.
In the lobby on the first floor, twenty-one people are surrounding an elderly Daikong person.
"I heard it with my own ears. The guard said Guilliman has already agreed to our terms. Diplomatic records, trade routes, and technological cooperation have all been settled. Only the final details remain."
A young Diplomat asks.
"Then how long do we have to wait?"
Tuowake thinks for a moment.
"The guard said maybe a few days, maybe a week. But it is definitely soon."
Low cheers erupt in the lobby.
Aolana stands at the foot of the stairs, looking at these excited faces.
A surge of joy also rises in her heart.
"Tuowake."
Aolana walks over.
Tuowake sees her, and a smile appears on his face.
"Aolana! Have you heard? We are going back!"
Aolana nods.
"I heard. But you heard it from the guards; is it reliable?"
Tuowake pauses for a moment.
"The guard said it himself, so it should be reliable, right?"
"Why would the guard tell you these things?"
Tuowake thinks for a moment.
"Perhaps because the negotiations are almost over, and there is no need to keep it secret anymore?"
Aolana does not answer.
Is the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance the kind of power that would let people go so easily?
"Aolana?"
Tuowake looks at her.
"Are you not happy?"
Aolana shakes her head.
"Happy. Of course I'm happy. It's just..."
"Just what?"
Aolana looks at him and says with a complex expression,
"It's just that it feels too smooth."
Tuowake smiles.
"Isn't it good that it's smooth? Or do you want to keep staying here?"
"Hmm, it's quite good."
Xiuluo Holy Star, Kalidusi training base.
This base is located in a mountain forest in the south of Xiuluo Holy Star; from the outside, it is just an ordinary military barracks, but the three underground levels are the true core.
There, one finds the most advanced camouflage training facilities, memory extraction equipment, and biological characteristic databases.
At this moment, twenty-three Kalidusi assassins have finished lining up.
They are wearing gray tight-fitting combat suits, their faces are different, and there is no excess emotion in their eyes.
Standing at the very front is the Commander of this operation, codenamed E-11.
"Task briefing."
E-11 spoke.
"Target: Daikong Star Alliance diplomatic mission, twenty-three people in total. Person in charge: Aolana, Senior Diplomat. Academician Tuowake, scholar. The remaining twenty-one are diplomats and attendants."
A holographic projection lit up, displaying the images and detailed information of the twenty-three Daikong people.
"Task objective: Replace the targets. We will extract their memories and then become them. Afterward, return to the Daikong Star Alliance under their identities, enter your respective positions, and wait for further instructions."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over everyone present.
"There is no time limit for this Task. Your mission is to lurk, observe, and wait. Do not initiate contact, do not expose your identities, and do not do anything unnecessary. When you are needed, someone will naturally contact you. After extracting the memories, eliminate the targets."
Seeing that no one had any objections, E-11 continued.
"Good. Begin preparations. Action in twenty-four hours."
Temporary accommodation facility, that night.
Dinner was more sumptuous than usual.
There was meat, vegetables, fruit, and even a few bottles of wine.
The guards said it was to "celebrate the smooth progress of the negotiations."
The twenty-three Daikong people sat around the first-floor hall, smiles on their faces.
They raised their glasses, clinked them, and talked about their plans after returning.
"I want to go home and see my family first."
A young diplomat said.
"I've been away too long; my family must be worried."
"I am going to report to the Academy of Sciences. I don't know how many of those research projects have been halted."
Tuowake sat at one end of the long table, his eyes full of emotion.
"After I go back, I want to write down my experiences from this period. Not as an accusation, but as a record. Let future generations know what war looks like."
Aolana sat beside him, the wine glass in her hand remaining untouched.
"Aolana, why aren't you drinking?"
Tuowake asked.
Aolana shook her head.
"I don't really want to drink."
Tuowake looked at her.
"Still worried?"
Aolana said after a few seconds of Silence.
"Tuowake, don't you find it strange?"
"What's strange?"
Aolana whispered.
"The guards have never been this good to us. Suddenly extra food, suddenly wine, suddenly telling us everything. Don't you think this is like..."
She did not continue.
Tuowake asked.
"Like what?"
Aolana looked at him, a trace of fear flashing in her three eyes.
"Like what the Xiuluo Saint commonly calls a last meal."
Tuowake's expression changed.
"Aolana, you're overthinking it. Why would they kill us? What good would killing us do them? The negotiations are almost over; we will be able to go back soon."
Aolana shook her head.
"I don't know. But I know the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance is not the kind of power that lets people go easily. Would they let us go just because of a few negotiations?"
Tuowake fell into Silence.
Aolana continued.
"And, who is Guilliman? The Primarch of the Ultramarines. Would he let us go for the sake of a few trade routes and a few diplomatic records? If he wanted these things, he could just take them. Does he need to negotiate?"
Tuowake's face grew paler and paler.
"Then what do you think they want to do?"
"I don't know."
The laughter and chatter in the hall continued.
No one noticed that Aolana and Tuowake in the corner had already put down their wine glasses.
