Chapter 1519: The Blood-Red Space Marine

~8 min read 1,482 words

Before he could finish his sentence, the sensor operator reported again.

Commander! Bio-Escort Ships on the side of the Insect Hive Mother Ship! They are moving rapidly toward our fleet!

Delin looked at the star map and immediately issued an order.

A portion of the ships, turn and intercept those escort units! The rest, continue to intercept the Landing Pods!

The first wave of beams was fired about thirty seconds after the order was given, landing at the front of the Zerg escort unit formation.

Several beams struck the carapace surface of an escort unit, burning open a rift.

The Bio-Escort Ship formation still maintained a dispersed flanking posture, closing in on the Kaoquanzao fleet's formation from all directions.

Delin's voice came through the flagship command channel.

Ships that have been engaged at close range, do not panic, use the Close-in Weapon System to sweep them away! Their carapaces cannot withstand sustained fire! Other ships, maintain formation, do not scatter, use concentrated fire to suppress their second wave of approach routes!

The battle in orbit entered a white-hot stage within a dozen seconds, as the ships of Kaoquanzao and the Bio-Escort Ships collided and intertwined.

At the same time, countless biological Landing Pods had already passed through the atmosphere.

In the ground Command Center, Gedeng stood before the tactical table and gave an order.

All units, listen up! Zerg landing units have touched down! All combat-capable forces, pull back to the second line of defense! Heavy firepower units, prioritize covering all landing points within fifty meters outside the force field barrier; do not let them get close to the barrier base!

The sounds of gunfire and explosions on the ground became even more intense after the order was given.

After those biological Landing Pods made contact with the ground, Zerg units crawled out from the shattered shells, varying in size.

The Xikushi United Nations ground forces had deployed Heavy Automatic Turrets and Portable Anti-Armor Launchers behind the second line of defense, opening fire simultaneously as the first wave of Zerg units entered range.

The high-rate-of-fire ammunition from the automatic turrets pierced the carapaces of the first few rows of Zerg units, creating multiple puncture holes in their torsos, but the subsequent Zerg units continued to advance, stepping over the corpses of their companions.

A Sergeant crouched behind cover, reloading ammunition while shouting into the Communication Device on his shoulder.

Commander-in-Chief! The number of Zerg units on the perimeter is too high! The ammunition consumption rate for the automatic turrets is three times faster than projected!

Gedeng's voice came from the Communication Device.

Move the ammunition supply line from the rear warehouse to behind the second line of defense, and stack the spare ammunition crates separately to avoid losing everything if the Zerg break through at one point.

Also, increase the energy output of the force field barrier by another ten percent; if we can block their forward speed, we can buy time for the rear to reorganize...

Gedeng's words were interrupted by a crashing sound as a crustacean Zerg unit over three meters in size slammed into the side of the force field barrier, causing a ripple-like energy fluctuation to spread across the barrier's surface.

From another direction, a more slender Zerg unit bypassed the firing arc of the automatic turrets from the side and charged into a gap in the defensive line's flank.

Its speed was extremely fast; before several soldiers could react, it had already rushed behind the cover and begun the slaughter.

Gedeng's voice came through the communication channel again.

Third Squad, fill the flank gap! All units on the second line of defense, maintain continuous fire coverage! Do not give them a chance to get close to the barrier base!

But the Xikushi side soon began to see their defensive line collapse; already at a disadvantage, they could not hold for long after encountering the attack from the Kazili Zerg.

Gedeng decided to detonate the force field reactor, letting these Kazili Zerg be buried with him.

The overload sequence for the force field reactor entered an irreversible stage seven seconds after Gedeng pressed the confirmation key.

The energy reading jumped directly from the edge of the safety threshold to the peak range.

Standing in the center of the Command Center, Gedeng felt his mood calm down and said into the communication channel.

You may evacuate to the perimeter of the force field barrier; run as far as you can.

No one in the Command Center was moving.

Several officers stood in front of their consoles, and the Adjutant stood behind and to the side of Gedeng.

The next second, the underground building complex housing the force field reactor was pushed open from below by an upward-impacting force.

Immediately following, an energy column about ten-plus meters thick erupted upward from the underground breach, and after rising to a height of several hundred meters, it began to expand outward into a hemispherical energy wave.

The energy on the Third Colonial Star, which had already been experiencing war, was already sufficiently dense; after this force field was detonated, these energies were drawn in, and the powerful energy began to tear the space apart.

That rift appeared at the core location where the force field reactor had been detonated, with an initial width of less than one meter; in the following seconds, the rift expanded at a speed visible to the naked eye, from one meter to three meters, from three meters to ten meters.

A bright red figure stepped out from the rift.

He wore blood-red Power Armor, and a string of skulls hung from his waist.

He held a Chainsword in his hand, the blade covered in coarse saw teeth, with deep black dried stains remaining in the gaps between the teeth.

When he stepped out from the rift, the ground beneath his feet was a layer of mixed gravel and debris that had been crushed by the Zerg landing units.

As soon as this Chaos Space Marine appeared, he saw a crustacean Zerg unit nearly three meters in size charging toward him.

This Chaos Space Marine directly activated the Chainsword, emitting a roar, and the saw teeth spun at high speed, creating a blurred, rotating afterimage.

When the bright red figure was about five meters from the Zerg, he swung the Chainsword in an arc from bottom to top, the blade cutting into the side gap of the Zerg's carapace, splitting that Zerg into two sections from the side.

The upper half of this Kazili Zerg continued to writhe in place for about two seconds after being severed before stopping, while the lower half stumbled forward and fell to the ground.

At the same time, more blood-red figures surged from the rift.

Blood for the Blood God!

After these Chaos Space Marines appeared, they split up and lunged toward the direction of the remaining Xikushi United Nations defensive line on the right, and charged toward the direction of the surviving cover groups of the Kaoquanzao ground forces.

The roar of Chainswords soon rang out across the ground battlefield, mixing with the hissing sounds made by the Zerg units and the gunfire from the Xikushi soldiers.

The Zerg units on the ground showed a brief delay in reaction when facing these newly appeared targets.

Their instinctual guidance seemed to be to prioritize attacking the closest, moving targets, but the movement speed of the Chaos Space Marines far exceeded any opponents they had previously encountered on the ground battlefield.

A smaller, four-legged crawling Zerg attempted to pounce on the back of the red-armored warrior from the side; the warrior completed a turn before it even made contact with him, swinging the Chainsword horizontally and hacking it into pieces.

A surviving Sergeant of the Xikushi United Nations crouched behind a collapsed wall, firing his Rifle toward the direction of the nearest Chaos Space Marine.

The bullets struck the front armor of that red Power Armor, leaving a few light-colored scratches before being deflected.

The Chaos Space Marine's helmet visor turned toward the direction of the Sergeant.

This Xikasi Sergeant ejected the empty magazine and was about to load a new one pulled from his waist, but the Chaos Space Marine's blade had already hacked down from above the wall.

The Sergeant's body no longer had a complete outline the moment it made contact with the blade.

At this moment, a Chaos Space Marine spoke in the communication channel.

These Aliens are a bit like the Tyranid, but only a bit like them.

The Tyranid have thicker carapaces than them, are greater in number than them, and would not send only one Mother Ship to attack a planet of this scale.

A variant?

The Chaos Space Marine who spoke first chopped off the head of a Cadian soldier.

Regardless of whether they are variants or something else, killing them is all the same.
