Chapter 176: Continuing the Search for Materials
Yingzhou saw Yun Shuangjin's expression stiffen, and the way he looked at him changed, which couldn't help but remind Yingzhou of a meme of a husky from his past life; it was somewhat similar.
"Do you two know each other?" Cai Kun noticed Yun Shuangjin's abnormality and asked.
"That... we..."
Yun Shuangjin didn't know how to answer for a moment; after all, Yingzhou's status had changed quite a bit, and to put it bluntly, he was now his superior. How was he supposed to answer this?
"We were students in the same cohort at the Psionic school, but some changes happened later, so I arrived at the Military District before them."
After Yingzhou briefly explained their relationship, he had Cai Kun begin assigning these new recruits to their respective defensive lines, while he returned to organize the Zerg he had encountered while out and their methods of attack.
"You two are actually from the same cohort?" Cai Kun looked at Yun Shuangjin with a strange gaze and asked in confusion.
"Uh... yes, we were indeed in the same cohort at the time, but Yingzhou trained harder than us back then, and his physical fitness improved very quickly. I heard from others that when he first entered the Psionic school, he was still a rather thin and weak student, but in just three months, he looked completely different."
Yun Shuangjin was a bit unaccustomed to it at first, but once he opened up, he was no longer as nervous as he had been just a moment ago.
"Hmm, looking at you, it really doesn't seem like you're from the same cohort; I feel like there's quite a gap between you."
Cai Kun nodded and began to assign the new recruits to their posts.
Yingzhou returned to his tent, and just as he sat down cross-legged, the system's notification sound rang in his mind.
"Material extraction complete. This extraction cost points."
Upon hearing this cost, Yingzhou frowned.
"Why did it cost so many points? System, you aren't trying to extort me, are you?"
"This material extraction process was relatively complex, so it consumed a lot of time, and the points cost was naturally high. Besides, is the host currently lacking points?"
"Hmm, although I always feel like something is weird, it seems there really isn't any problem. How much material is still missing now?"
"Reporting to the host, the accumulated material has now reached 45%. The host still needs to continue working hard to find materials."
Hearing that more than half was still missing, Yingzhou had no choice but to selectively slack off.
He didn't know when he would encounter materials again, so he would just leave it at that for now.
Zerg Incubation Nest.
The Dominator Bug's antennae were waving wildly as it communicated with its mother.
"Mother, I have encountered some small trouble here. There is a strange Human who can sever the connection between me and my children. One of the children bestowed upon me by the Mother God has already lost contact, and I can no longer reach it."
Then, after about ten seconds, the antennae on the Dominator Bug's head began to sway rhythmically.
"Those Human children are merely experimental subjects for the Mother God; there are still many Human children available for deeper-level experiments. This has only just begun, and we can continue to unearth the mysteries hidden within these Humans' bodies."
"But, Mother, those Humans have now begun to walk out of their defensive positions and started attacking our Hatchery. Although those Humans do not have that kind of energy fluctuation in their bodies, they possess a strange emotional thought, and the destination of that emotional thought is the Human who previously severed the connection to my child."
"Then, have you not begun to propagate the new children I gave you?"
"I have already begun, but Mother, I always feel that the children I have here now find it difficult to take down that Human position, especially after that strange Human appeared. Therefore, I would like to request that you give me a few more children!"
After a brief silence, the Dominator Bug heard its mother's voice.
"Child, as a mother, I will give you two new children for you to propagate. However, I will give your other sisters the children you currently possess; only then will it be fair. Furthermore, you must take down that Human position within 1 month, so that I will not be disappointed in you."
Upon hearing its mother agree to its request, the Dominator Bug's entire body began to writhe in excitement.
"Rest assured, Mother, I will certainly not let you down."
As the communication ended, a female humanoid Zerg inside a Hatchery grew some antennae from her back, controlling the interior of the Hatchery to begin operation.
Just then, a loud "Boom" sounded in the distance, causing the humanoid Zerg to frown. She looked toward the distant Orc Camp through the vision of her children outside and saw a group of Orcs busy putting out a fire.
"I don't know what those Beast Race are tinkering with lately; explosions happen in that camp from time to time. Do they have nothing better to do?"
Seeing that the explosions at the Orc Camp did not recur, the humanoid Zerg began to continue manipulating the Hatchery to operate its interior.
At this time, inside the Orc Camp.
"Cough, cough, cough!" Maike walked out from the explosion zone filled with smoke and dust, muttering incessantly.
"Strange? It has the appearance of that weapon, but not the power of that weapon. How exactly do those Two-legged Sheep manage to do it?"
The place where the explosion just occurred was the experimental camp where Maike was trying hard to replicate the Laser Beam Weapon that those Two-legged Sheep could fire.
Judging by the skilled fire-extinguishing movements of the surrounding Orcs, this was not the first time an explosion had occurred.
"Lord Maike, two Beast Race warriors and more than 10 Two-legged Sheep died this time."
Just as Maike sat on a stone to the side to catch his breath, an Orc Guard came to Maike's side and said in a muffled voice.
"Hmm, I know. Clean up the camp, and we will continue."
Maike steadied himself, moved his Human body, and said to the Orc Guard beside him.
"Understood!"
After dismissing the surrounding Beast Race warriors, Maike looked at the place where the explosion had occurred and whispered to himself.
"How do those Two-legged Sheep's weapons manage to fire a beam of light that can severely injure or even kill a Beast Race warrior? What an incredible weapon! Since high-temperature flames easily cause the weapon to explode in the chamber, I can only try another method."
Maike stood up and went to his workshop for replicating weapons. Looking at the various DIY weapons inside, he took out a Rifle commonly used by those masked Two-legged Sheep. This was a shell he had replicated based on the images in his mind; the most critical issue of energy ammunition had always been his heartache.
Maike's hand appeared with strange Runes carved onto the Rifle. Those strange Runes quickly attached themselves to the Rifle, and with a fluctuation of Rune energy, Maike slowly withdrew his power.
"This time I have adjusted the ratio of the Flame Rune to be smaller, while increasing the power of the Light Rune. I wonder if it can achieve that kind of power."
Maike then shouted to the Orc Guard outside his workshop.
"Continue the experiment, and bring a few more Two-legged Sheep up here!"
