Chapter 215: Searching for Clues
After Ji Bu learned the method to find the corrosive energy hidden by the Zerg within the supply shipments, he no longer had the heart to continue discussing with that sinister voice.
"This is your last chance; otherwise, the consequences will be more than you can bear."
The sinister voice also saw that Ji Bu had no intention of speaking with it anymore, so it took the hint and left, leaving behind only a threat.
After those sinister voices vanished, Ji Bu braced his hands on the desk and rubbed his temples with a face full of exhaustion.
"Guard!"
The door to the officer's office opened, and Ji Bu's guard walked in, saluted Ji Bu, and spoke.
"Chief, what is the Task?"
"Take a few soldiers and destroy the Spirit Patterns protecting the supplies; that way, we can find the 'gift' the Alien Race left for us."
"Yes!"
The guard accepted the order and left. Ji Bu opened his desk drawer with a grave expression, inside of which lay 6 brightly colored Stone.
"Sigh, has it finally come to this?"
Ji Bu's gaze was complex as he muttered to himself in a low voice.
Ninth Defense Zone Outer City Production Zone.
Yingzhou brought Tan Xiaotong to the factory that produced food for the front lines and saw a middle-aged man wearing work clothes, with thinning hair and wrinkles on his face, waiting there.
"You must be Captain Yingzhou, sent by the Military District to inspect the factory, right? I am the person in charge of this factory—Cheng Jiunan—and I will introduce you to the entire process from raw materials to finished products."
Cheng Jiunan squeezed a smile onto his wrinkled face and extended his right hand toward Yingzhou.
"No need for that much trouble; let's go straight to the final few steps of the process."
Yingzhou extended his right hand to shake Cheng Jiunan's right hand and spoke to Cheng Jiunan in a serious tone.
"Uh, alright, please follow me."
Yingzhou followed behind Cheng Jiunan; his height of nearly 2.8 meters made Cheng Jiunan feel a trace of pressure.
Tan Xiaotong followed behind Yingzhou, not daring to stay too far from him.
The noise inside the factory was deafening. The workers, wearing dirty work clothes and laboring hard, worked like machines; there was not a glimmer of light in their eyes, their spirits long since numbed, as if they had lost their souls.
Yingzhou followed behind Cheng Jiunan, watching the workers laboring hard around him, and a wave of discomfort surged in his heart.
Although the Human Alliance had not yet experienced a break in supply shipments, the price paid was the day-after-day, year-after-year hard labor of these ordinary people.
These Alien Race were reaching their claws toward ordinary people! They had already suffered enough misery, yet they were still being targeted by the Alien Race!
Arriving at the final few processes of producing the supply shipments, several workers were wrapping the finished food in packaging that possessed Spirit Patterns.
"Tan Xiaotong, have you discovered anything wrong?"
Yingzhou stopped his steps and asked Tan Xiaotong behind him in a low voice.
"No, I don't feel that Spiritual Power Fluctuation."
Tan Xiaotong looked carefully at the workers who were working and finally shook her head.
After hearing this, Yingzhou said to Cheng Jiunan, "Take us to the warehouse to check."
After hearing this, Cheng Jiunan led Yingzhou and Tan Xiaotong to the warehouse where the supply shipments were stored.
"Strange? Where did Lao Wu go?" Cheng Jiunan looked at the empty seat at the warehouse entrance in confusion and muttered to himself in a low voice.
"Lao Wu! Where are you? Where did you go!"
Cheng Jiunan cleared his throat and shouted twice toward the inside of the warehouse.
A moment later, Lao Wu slowly walked out from the warehouse and said to Cheng Jiunan, "Factory Manager Cheng, you aren't supervising production in the Production Zone, so what are you doing coming here?"
Just as Lao Wu walked out of the warehouse and saw Yingzhou and Tan Xiaotong, his previously relaxed tone came to an abrupt halt, but he reacted quickly; it took him less than a second to recover, and he said to Cheng Jiunan.
"Who are these two?"
"These two were sent by the Military District to check on the production progress of the supply shipments."
Cheng Jiunan rubbed his hands together and introduced the identities of Yingzhou and Tan Xiaotong in a somewhat humble tone.
Yingzhou saw a momentary flicker of evasion in the eyes of the middle-aged man called Lao Wu and spoke to him.
"What were you doing inside just now?"
As soon as Yingzhou finished speaking, he felt Tan Xiaotong behind him nervously clutching the corner of his clothes.
"Tan Xiaotong, do you feel anything?"
Tan Xiaotong nodded and said in a somewhat trembling voice.
"In this warehouse, there seems to be the same Spiritual Power Fluctuation as before on the supply shipments."
After hearing this, Yingzhou looked at Lao Wu. Lao Wu, having heard Yingzhou's question, also paused for a moment before speaking in a fawning tone.
"This military officer, I was just inside checking if the supply shipments matched the records."
"Then let's go in and take a look, to see if someone has swapped the goods and replaced the supply shipments."
After Yingzhou said this in a flat tone, he didn't wait for Cheng Jiunan to say anything and walked straight into the warehouse.
The warehouse was large and piled full of supply shipments ready to be transported to the Military District; Cheng Jiunan and Lao Wu followed closely behind.
"Do you feel where it is?"
Yingzhou asked Tan Xiaotong in a low voice. Tan Xiaotong shook her head, "Just now, that Lao Wu had a Spiritual Power Fluctuation on him that hadn't dissipated, but there doesn't seem to be that kind of Spiritual Power Fluctuation inside the warehouse."
After hearing this, Yingzhou nodded, "Then let's go to some that look more..."
Yingzhou stopped halfway through his sentence; he discovered that the cargo crate in front of him seemed to have just been opened, and furthermore, Lao Wu, who was following behind him, seemed very nervous just now.
Yingzhou did not stop his steps but continued walking forward with Tan Xiaotong.
Seeing that Yingzhou had not discovered anything unusual, Lao Wu quietly breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he prepared to continue following Cheng Jiunan, he discovered that Cheng Jiunan had been pulled behind by that tall, burly soldier.
Lao Wu reacted instantly; the human skin on his right hand shattered, and a sharp pincer quickly grabbed toward Cheng Jiunan.
But it was cleaved open by a Chainsword that Yingzhou took out. Accompanied by the humming sound of the Chain Saw, Lao Wu's right hand... right pincer had already fallen to the ground.
"It seems you have some connection to the Alien Race, so stay here!"
Yingzhou struck out rapidly with his left hand, wanting to grab Lao Wu by the neck.
At this moment, having lost his right pincer, Lao Wu was clutching his wound in pain; seeing Yingzhou's massive body rapidly approaching him, he wanted to dodge, but his body's speed was still too slow, and just as he had this thought, the burly man had already closed in on him.
Yingzhou pinned Lao Wu to the ground and said in a serious tone.
"Speak! What are you Alien Race trying to do here! Who else is in your group!"
Lao Wu was struggling violently at this moment, his veins bulging, his eyes bloodshot, and saliva flowing from the corners of his mouth.
Just as Yingzhou felt that this Lao Wu had already been controlled by the Zerg and prepared to finish him off, the struggling Lao Wu suddenly stopped all movement, and his entire person fell into a coma.
