Chapter 264: Believers

~7 min read 1,203 words

Zerg Breeding Ground.

After Leiside uniformly distributed the Nutrient Paste, although everyone was in a state of not being full, no one died of hunger.

"How is this Nutrient Paste actually made? It tastes terrible!"

After finishing the dark green Nutrient Paste, Fengjing stuck out his tongue and complained.

Hearing Fengjing's complaint, Leiside smiled and said to Fengjing.

"Regarding this question, I think it's better if you don't know; if you knew, you might not even want to eat that Nutrient Paste anymore."

Fengjing, who had been complaining, suddenly became interested after hearing Leiside's words, leaned over to Leiside's side, and said.

"Now that you've said that, I'm even more curious. Old Lei, tell me, how is it made?"

Leiside shook his head, smiling without a word.

"Damn! Old Lei, this is no fun, telling half the story—you're killing me with suspense!"

Seeing that Fengjing looked a bit anxious, Leiside looked at Fengjing solemnly and said in a serious tone.

"Fengjing, are you really ready? You must prepare yourself mentally!"

Fengjing nodded immediately and replied, "Don't worry, Old Lei, my mental fortitude is terrifyingly strong!"

Leiside beckoned Fengjing to his side and whispered into the other's ear.

"It is made with..."

"Holy crap! Old Lei! How did you know that! I'm gonna puke..."

After hearing Leiside's explanation, Fengjing covered his mouth and ran to the side to start vomiting, while Leiside continued to twist the knife from behind.

"Stop vomiting; if you vomit, you'll go hungry today."

"Damn! How was I supposed to know that Nutrient Paste was... *gag*..."

The commotion between the two also aroused the curiosity of other comrades. Seeing Fengjing wiping his mouth, a comrade jokingly asked.

"Fengjing, what's wrong? Even if this Nutrient Paste tastes bad, it shouldn't make you nauseous, right?"

Upon hearing the words "Nutrient Paste," Fengjing dry-heaved a few more times, and after realizing he truly had nothing left to throw up, he said.

"Damn! Stop teasing me. I'm kind-hearted, so I won't hold it against you."

As he spoke, he looked at Leiside, and seeing that guy eat the Nutrient Paste, he couldn't help but admire his mental fortitude.

Meanwhile, over at the Church, a group of uninvited guests arrived. 100 Believers wearing red robes appeared inside the Church, giving Zakeboge a fright.

Upon seeing two oval shapes tattooed on the chest of the leading Human in red robes, Zakeboge immediately knelt and said.

"Zakeboge pays respects to you, my lord."

The leading red-robed man did not open his mouth, yet a strange sound emerged. The sound was rather sharp, giving Zakeboge goosebumps.

"By the order of Mother God, we have come here to assist you. Mother God's latest decree is for us to prepare to assimilate those Human soldiers. If they resist, let their bodies become a breeding ground for Mother God's offspring."

Sweat seeped from Zakeboge's forehead, but he dared not reach out to wipe it. Hearing the man in front stop speaking, he immediately replied.

"I will certainly do my best to complete Mother God's order and not fail Mother God's cultivation."

"Take us there. It is getting late. By the time the sun rises tomorrow, these Human soldiers will become Mother God's Believers or breeding grounds."

Zakeboge immediately stood up and led the way for this red-robed man and the group of red-robed Believers behind him.

While leading the way in front, he wiped the sweat from his forehead clean.

When the survivors along the road, who were lying or sitting, saw Zakeboge leading a group of red-robed Believers, one survivor who was relatively old whispered.

"It's actually the Believers of the Zerg Mother God? What are they doing in our Breeding Ground? Is someone going to be assimilated again?"

The youth beside the old man heard the old man say this, moved to the old man's side, and asked in a low voice.

"Old man, what's the deal with those red-robed Believers? Do you know their origins?"

Seeing that it was a scrawny youth, the old man spoke slowly.

"They are Humans whose bodies have been occupied by the Zerg. Of course, there are also Humans who became Believers voluntarily, but most are forced. Their strength is very high. I reckon this time they are here to deal with those newcomers, what was it called... Leiside? Sigh, the days of being able to eat my fill are gone again."

Upon hearing that those red-robed Believers were going to cause trouble for Leiside and his group, the youth's body stiffened. After a moment of Silence, he slowly stood up, thanked the old man, and turned to leave.

"What are you going to do? You had better not think about doing something stupid. If you ruin the good deeds of those red-robed Believers, they won't let you off, and besides, you can't change anything."

After hearing this, the youth revealed a smile on his thin face and replied, "But, I want to go home."

After leaving these words behind, the thin youth turned without hesitation and ducked into a narrow, deep alleyway nearby.

He went from walking quickly to a light jog, and finally, he began to run.

Those people who were willing to share their food with him must absolutely not fall victim to the red-robed Believers! If he could deliver this dangerous news to them in time, relying on the great strength they had previously displayed, perhaps there was still a glimmer of hope to turn around this precarious situation.

At the thought of this, the youth's running speed became faster and faster. His frail body soon began to emit rapid panting sounds, but he did not stop his pace, weaving through the crisscrossing ruins. His small figure appeared and disappeared in the dim light.

Along the way, many survivors sitting in the ruins cast curious glances. They looked at each other, not understanding what this youth was doing, because in the Breeding Ground, except for scrambling for the Nutrient Paste dropped by the Zerg, no one would foolishly expend their energy like this.

"Huff... huff... huff..."

The youth felt his chest burning; every breath was a painful torture. The muscles in his calves were already aching, and every organ in his body was warning the youth that his body could not handle such running, but the youth still did not stop.

Just as he was about to reach the area where those people were, an untimely voice appeared in the youth's ear.

"Jixiang? What the hell are you running for!"

Following the sound, a figure appeared on the road in front of Jixiang and kicked Jixiang in the abdomen.

Jixiang, who already had little strength, was kicked directly to the ground, his chest heaving violently. Jixiang struggled to get up, but his head took another kick. He immediately felt the world spinning before his eyes, and lying on the ground, he found it hard to rise again, only able to gasp for air.

The figure did not stop the attack, walked in front of Jixiang, and seeing Jixiang's small body still trying to crawl up, stepped on Jixiang's chest.

"I haven't seen you kid with this much energy before. Looks like you can take a few more punches today."
