Chapter 271: Every Single Person Is Important

~7 min read 1,220 words

At the evacuation point at this moment, the Zerg had been mostly cleared out, with only scattered Termagants appearing from time to time, but the moment they appeared, their fate was sealed, waiting only for a Laser Beam to strike and end their lives.

The Cadian Lieutenant looked at the cleared open space and nodded with satisfaction; just as he was about to return to the fortifications, he suddenly felt a surge of airflow above his head.

Looking up, he saw three Transport Aircraft flying out from a patch of Gray Mist, slowly descending toward the open space that had just been cleared.

Just as these three Transport Aircraft landed, another Transport Aircraft appeared in the sky; once this one landed, a group of muscular Catachan Jungle Fighters wearing red bandanas climbed out, and after they descended, they found no Aliens and dispersed to stand guard with some lack of interest.

Just as the Cadian Lieutenant was wondering why Catachan Jungle Fighters would appear here, a 3-meter-tall figure appeared before his eyes.

His purple pupils contracted slightly, his body began to tremble uncontrollably, and his heartbeat began to accelerate.

"Great Emperor, we welcome your arrival. We have followed your decree to guide those survivors into the Transport Aircraft, and for the survivors who have not come out, squads will go in to bring them out."

Yingzhou watched as the Cadian soldiers were having the survivors board the Transport Aircraft in an orderly fashion, and another Vitrian and Cadian Squad had returned with nearly 500 survivors.

"Very good, you have done very well!"

Just as Yingzhou was speaking with this Cadian Lieutenant, a Cadian Sergeant who had just arrived at the evacuation point came before the Lieutenant and saluted Yingzhou.

"Greetings, Emperor. Among the survivors we found, there is one who has the ability to manipulate ice, and he even fought against the Aliens..."

Hearing the Cadian Sergeant's description, Yingzhou immediately spoke to the Sergeant.

"Soldier, bring him over."

"Understood!"

Soon, Yingzhou saw a middle-aged man with his left forearm missing being brought over by the Cadian Sergeant; Yingzhou looked the middle-aged man up and down and asked.

"I heard you saved those survivors with an Ice Wall, allowing some who should have died there to live. Are you a soldier of the Human Alliance?"

Leiside looked at the 3-meter-tall strong man in front of him, feeling shocked in his heart.

What must one eat to grow this tall? Isn't this too tall? This is even taller than that soldier mentioned in the Military District who was 2.7 meters tall!

Upon hearing the strong man ask him, Leiside looked at the survivors boarding the Military Transport Plane, swallowed his saliva, and spoke to Yingzhou.

"I am indeed a soldier of the Human Alliance, a soldier of the Sixty-Sixth Corps."

When Yingzhou heard this familiar Corps name, wasn't this the Corps his older brother was in?

"Then how did you end up here? This place is not close to the Sixty-Sixth Corps."

Hearing the 3-meter-tall strong man ask this, Leiside could only smile bitterly and shake his head.

"I didn't want this either, but during a previous battle, I was swallowed by a type of Zerg. I thought I was already dead, but when I woke up, I found myself inside a Zerg Hatchery.

But for some reason, the Zerg separated me from some of my comrades, and I came here with a small portion of them... In the end, I was brought here by these soldiers."

Sure enough, the Zerg had not launched any large-scale attacks during this time; they must have been doing something else, though the purpose of the Zerg doing this was still unknown.

Yingzhou asked Leiside casually, "Which battle were you captured by the Zerg in?"

"After Position 4 of the Sixty-Sixth Corps was taken by the Zerg, I followed the Deputy Regiment Commander back to Position 4 to rebuild the defensive line there, when we were attacked by the Zerg and I was swallowed."

Yingzhou was stunned for a moment upon hearing Leiside's words, then gave Leiside a meaningful look and asked again.

"Do you know Yingfang?"

"Yingfang?" Leiside glanced at Yingzhou and nodded, saying, "I know him. He is a member of our Sixty-Sixth Corps combat squad. Our Deputy Regiment Commander even led us to cover their retreat. I don't know if they succeeded in the end; after all, I don't know what happened after that, as I had already been swallowed by the Zerg."

Retreat? In Leiside's description, his older brother's squad must have been arranged to retreat. So, did his older brother sacrifice himself in the end? Did they encounter the Zerg on the way?

A trace of doubt rose in Yingzhou's heart, but he had no leads.

Considering the current situation in the surroundings, Yingzhou had Leiside board the Transport Aircraft to return to the Military District.

As the four Transport Aircraft slowly rose, they disappeared into the night.

There were still some survivors at the evacuation point who had not boarded the Transport Aircraft; they looked anxiously at the departing aircraft, and a sense of restlessness began to spread, fearing they would not be able to return home.

"Quiet! The great Emperor has arrived in person. The Emperor will not abandon you, as long as you hold fast to your identity as Humans! Believe in that great existence! The Emperor treats every Human equally!"

Seeing the survivors becoming restless, the Cadian Sergeant immediately shouted.

The originally restless survivors, upon hearing that the Emperor the soldiers had been mentioning had also arrived here, finally noticed the 3-meter-tall, muscular man at the evacuation point.

Was that the Emperor these soldiers were loyal to?

Seeing this, Yingzhou coughed lightly and said to the survivors.

"Ahem, this is only the first batch of Transport Aircraft; they will return to pick you up very soon. Do not worry. Since I have decided to save you all, I will certainly not let a single person be left behind! Every single person is important!"

Yingzhou's voice was not loud, but when the survivors heard it, they felt their eyes grow moist. No one had ever said such a thing to them. Among these survivors, some had lived in the Ninth Defense Zone and knew that even if they died, no one would care; at most, their families would grieve for a few days.

However, now this man, whom the soldiers called the Emperor, had actually said such words. No one had ever valued them so much, because they were merely labor used to produce supplies, and even if they died, there would be successors to replace them; no one would value their death or their disappearance.

"Emperor! Thank you for valuing us so much!"

At first, only a few survivors said this, but then, like a Stone thrown into a calm lake, it sent ripples spreading outward.

"Thank you for your mercy!"

"Thank you for coming to save us!"

Watching these desperate survivors, many of whom had begun to have Faith in him and were offering up Faith Value, Yingzhou could not help but sigh.

These survivors, who had endured so much hardship, had given him Faith Value after just a few words. How suppressed were the hearts of the ordinary civilians in the Ninth Defense Zone usually?
