Chapter 279: Hiding Among the Masses
Saijia and that Frost Warrior from the patrol team walked into the palace, knelt on the ground, and lowered their heads.
"Respected Leader, we failed to leave all those humans behind. They possess a type of weapon that can function normally in cold climates, and that weapon deals high damage; even in the low temperatures outside, it burned wounds onto our Frost Warriors."
As he spoke, he had the Frost Warrior beside him display the struck arm. A wound had been burned into the arm, and wisps of cold air were emerging from within the wound, which was currently repairing the Frost Warrior's arm, though the progress was quite slow.
The inside of the arm did not look like muscle tissue, but rather like a body composed of liquid.
The Frost Leader sitting on the throne saw this and had Xiuka, who was sitting beside him, step forward to examine it carefully.
Xiuka walked up to this Frost Warrior, looked at his injured arm, and turned back to say to the Frost Leader.
"Father, it is indeed as Captain Saijia said. The self-healing ability of our Frost Race has also been damaged. This is still under conditions we are adapted to; if it were in the environment outside, our clansmen would have no power to fight back against this kind of weapon."
After hearing Xiuka's words, the Frost Leader spoke slowly.
"It seems humans actually have this kind of weapon now. Didn't they previously use the Spiritual Power within their bodies to assist in combat? Why have they started developing new weapons now?"
"This must be the reason why the Zerg failed to take down the Ninth Defense Zone of the Human Alliance."
Xiuka walked back before the Frost Leader and speculated aloud.
"Respected Leader, those humans who came to our territory did not have that kind of Spiritual Power Fluctuation on them. They should just be ordinary humans, only with slightly stronger physical constitutions."
Saijia saw the two chatting happily and spoke up.
"Have humans already reached this level? It seems it is only a matter of time before the Zerg destroy them. By the way, has there been any progress regarding the situation with the Zerg and the Beast Race recently?"
Upon hearing his father say this, Xiuka immediately replied, "Father, there is no situation there; it is the same as before. However, it seems the Zerg were actively attacked by the humans once."
Regarding this, the Frost Leader muttered a few words of dissatisfaction.
"An active attack? Have those humans gone mad? Where would they get so much population to squander? But at a time like this, burning their bridges is not a bad strategy."
After speaking, he looked at the kneeling Saijia and that Frost Warrior, and waved his hand, signaling for them to leave.
"You may withdraw. I am aware of the situation you described. Our weapons must also undergo certain modifications; have the craftsmen think of a way."
"Understood."
Ninth Defense Zone Military Region.
Yingzhou arrived at his office with a distressed look, stared at the mountain of documents piled on his desk, and fell into deep thought.
Sometimes he really wanted to slack off, but considering what lay ahead, Yingzhou could only pull his thoughts back and begin preparing for the day's work.
"Right, there seems to be a Council meeting today. It looks like I have to attend today, and mention a few things while I'm at it."
After processing documents for a while, Yingzhou suddenly patted his head as if remembering something, put down the large pen in his hand, stretched his wrists, and checked the time.
"Good, there's still half an hour. I can relax a little; consider it a reward for my hard work."
Just as Yingzhou leaned back into his large, custom-made office chair, his office door was knocked upon.
"Knock, knock, knock..."
"Enter."
Lu Zhenda walked into Yingzhou's office, saluted Yingzhou, and said.
"Chief, regarding the soldier named Leiside you asked me to inquire about concerning the events he experienced in the previous war, I have combined that with intelligence from other places and need to report to you."
Yingzhou, who had been leaning on his chair, immediately perked up upon hearing Lu Zhenda say this.
"Lao Lu, stop keeping me in suspense, speak quickly!"
"Yes! Combining a series of intelligence, I discovered that the Xu Fenqiu combat squad of the 66th Legion began to withdraw from the battlefield under the orders of the Deputy Regiment Commander at the time. Subsequently, they likely broke through from the area with the fewest Zerg, but the situation at the time was unclear, which led to this combat squad going missing."
Hearing this, Yingzhou looked at Lu Zhenda in confusion, "Lao Lu, and then?"
"Ahem, Chief, that is all the accurate intelligence for now, but I can make two speculations. First, the Xu Fenqiu squad encountered a Zerg ambush during their withdrawal; although the numbers were not high, it is very likely they were a new type of Zerg they had never seen before, and they were annihilated."
"Second, another Alien Race intervened in this war and killed the Xu Fenqiu squad, wanting all the soldiers who went to support the 66th Legion to disappear."
"These are both my speculations, because there is no subsequent intelligence and no signs of battle, so the speculation can only go this far."
After hearing Lu Zhenda's words, Yingzhou was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly, "Your speculation is very reasonable, but there is no way to verify it. However, in the final analysis, it is still the Alien Race playing tricks. Do you think it is possible that this was done by an Alien Race hiding among the humans?"
Lu Zhenda hesitated for a moment, then said.
"That possibility cannot be ruled out. However, according to what you say, the scope would have to be expanded even further; those traitors who have defected to the Alien Race are also possible."
"The situation is a bit complicated now. Those traitors who have defected to the Alien Race are hiding among the masses, and it is difficult for us to find them. We can only train the new soldiers; those with good training results will not be assigned to the various legions. The current state of the Military District must change!"
Considering the current state of the Military District, Yingzhou tapped his fingers on the desk, making a rhythmic tapping sound, and said in a deep voice.
"However, major changes will give the Alien Race an opportunity. If a situation arises at this time, it is very likely that there will be problems with the mobilization."
Lu Zhenda looked worried and voiced his concerns.
"Lao Lu, don't worry, there won't be any problems. There is still half a year until the new recruits arrive at the Military District; we can do this slowly. Let's leave it at that for now, the time is almost up, prepare for the meeting."
Lu Zhenda could only shut his mouth and wait for the meeting notification.
Seeing that the time was almost up, Yingzhou pressed the meeting button. A blue projection appeared before him, and after scanning his face, the image before him shifted.
Yingzhou looked at Jack, who had already connected, and greeted him, "Jack, long time no see. How is the Production Zone lately?"
Jack touched his receding hairline and revealed a bitter smile, "Yingzhou, thanks to you, at least there is no situation for now. Even the number of conflicts between workers has decreased a lot. Those soldiers of yours really helped me a lot."
"You're welcome, as long as it's effective."
After Yingzhou politely replied to Jack's words, an untimely voice appeared in Yingzhou's ear.
"Yo, isn't this the Military District Chief, the usually busy Yingzhou? How do you have time today?"
