Chapter 286: Protecting Jack
"Are you saying that news arrived today that Councilor Lu Yang has gone missing?"
Yingzhou and Jack walked side by side; Yingzhou's three-meter height made Jack feel deeply that the guy in front of him was no ordinary person. After intercepting Jack midway, Yingzhou brought Jack outside, chatting as they walked.
"Yes, the last lead was that Lu Yang went to the Data Archive last night to look up some information, but he hasn't appeared since this morning. The soldiers on duty and Lu Yang's Guard also disappeared along with him."
Jack nodded with a grave expression and continued.
"The most important thing is that the area around the Data Archive is under strict control. Once an unidentified person approaches, an alarm will sound, but last night, no alarm went off."
"So, what are your thoughts?"
After listening to Jack, Yingzhou asked.
"I suspect the possibility of an Alien Race is low, but if someone who has already gained access to that place has defected to the Alien Race, then it's hard to say. This time, the Alien Race is very likely preparing to purge the high-level officials of the Ninth Defense Zone, and they are powerful. Because the people who have gone missing now are not weak in strength, especially Lu Yang, whose strength is no less than a Legion Commander of the Military District. I dare not even imagine how strong an Alien Race capable of making them disappear without a sound could be."
Speaking to this point, Jack paused and continued.
"The main thing is that two soldiers left the area of the Data Archive, and after that, they seemed to have vanished into thin air."
Yingzhou nodded, agreeing with Jack's assessment.
"Your guess is very likely, but we have no idea who the next target of those Aliens is. However, if their target is me, then I can only say: just in time."
Jack said to Yingzhou with a wry smile, "Yingzhou, your strength is formidable; the Alien Race definitely won't look for trouble with you first. But we can't just sit here and wait for death. My purpose in coming here this time is to ask to borrow a squad from you to protect me until that Alien is found."
"Hm? Is there such a... *cough*... uh... I mean, that's a good idea. I will arrange a squad with rich combat experience to protect you, so don't worry."
Yingzhou had originally wanted to know some specific details about the Production Zone, but he hadn't expected this guy Jack to request it himself.
This is what you asked for; I didn't force you.
Yingzhou thought this to himself, but on the outside, he struggled to keep from laughing.
"Really? That's great! *Cough*, I'm not afraid of death; it's mainly that I'm afraid if I die, the Production Zone will be controlled by people with ulterior motives, causing problems with material supplies."
Seeing Yingzhou staring at him, Jack coughed dryly to explain himself.
"No, this is very normal. The methods of those Aliens are pervasive. We must protect ourselves well to make more contributions to Humanity, and it will also give those Aliens quite a headache."
Seeing Jack like this, Yingzhou smiled, patted Jack on the shoulder, and said.
Jack saw his request so easily granted by Yingzhou and felt for a moment that Yingzhou had wanted to do this all along. But after thinking about it carefully, Yingzhou had no need to do so, so he stopped dwelling on it.
"Since my purpose for coming here has been achieved, I'll head back first. When will your squad arrive at the Production Zone? I'll send people to meet them then."
After pondering for a few seconds, Yingzhou said to Jack.
"They will go over today. Once I arrange the personnel in a moment, they will go to the Production Zone to find you."
Jack was stunned for a moment, then touched his receding hairline and smiled.
"That's really troubling you."
After Jack left, Yingzhou returned to his office and found Lu Zhenda looking at him with surprise.
"Lao Lu, what's wrong? You look surprised."
"How could that be? Chief, I just thought you would be chatting with Councilor Jack for a long time."
Lu Zhenda said to Yingzhou with a smirk.
"Comrade Lao Lu, I have to criticize you for this. Of course, I came back as soon as I finished my work; how could I possibly be slacking off outside?"
Lu Zhenda's mouth twitched, thinking to himself: Don't you know what you're like?
Yingzhou stopped teasing Lu Zhenda and instead told him what Jack had just said. After listening to Yingzhou, Lu Zhenda asked.
"Chief, which Legion's squad do you intend to send to protect Councilor Jack?"
After hearing Lu Zhenda's words, Yingzhou smiled and shook his head, "No, that won't be necessary."
Ninth Defense Zone Outer City Production Zone Headquarters.
Jack watched the sky grow darker and darker, and a trace of worry began to rise in his heart.
"They won't be unable to make it today, will they?"
A burst of hurried footsteps approached from afar, and then Jack's Secretary pushed open the office door, saluted Jack, and said.
"Councilor Jack, 15 strangely dressed soldiers have arrived outside the gate of the Production Zone Headquarters. They say they are here under the Emperor's orders to protect you."
Hearing his Secretary say this, Jack immediately thought it must be the squad Yingzhou sent him, so he left his office, holding a trace of anticipation in his heart.
Jack walked out of the Production Zone Headquarters and saw the 15 soldiers outside the gate, feeling a wave of confusion.
How does this look like two squads? Could it be a patched-together squad?
He saw that in this squad, there were five muscular men with bare upper bodies or wearing vests, about 2 meters tall, with half-meter-long Combat Knives tucked into their waists. Their thick arms were covered in tattoos. The one with the most tattoos, who was also wearing a hat, seemed to be a Sergeant; he was communicating with the Sergeant of the other squad.
The other squad wore khaki uniforms with Bulletproof Armor over them. They were slightly shorter than the muscular men, and their helmets were imprinted with a pair of wings with a skull in the center. They carried backpacks on their backs.
The Rifles in their hands looked similar in style, but Jack couldn't tell what type of firearm they were. He remembered that there were no Rifles of this type among the weapons in the Ninth Defense Zone Production Zone.
"I am Jack. Who are you?"
Jack stepped forward and asked the two chatting Sergeants.
"Hahaha, brother, it's still more satisfying with you guys. Those bastards from Scintilla, I really..."
The Catachan Sergeant who was speaking saw the person identify himself. Upon hearing that this person was the target the Emperor had ordered them to protect, he could only end the previous topic. The Cadian Sergeant let out a sigh of relief and said to Jack in a solemn tone.
"By order of the Emperor, we have come to protect your safety until the Alien is captured."
Jack nodded, having already realized that these must be the soldiers summoned by Yingzhou, which made him even more curious.
"How did you find this place?"
"Hahaha, those toy soldiers told us. Damn it, it saved us from taking the wrong path."
The Catachan Sergeant laughed and said to Jack.
"Toy... toy soldiers?"
