Chapter 325: Empty Shell Hatchery
When the Death Korps of Krieg arrived at the Zerg Hatchery, there was no massive swarm of Zerg rushing out as Xu Ke had imagined; there were only a few scattered Zerg in the nest, letting out roars from time to time.
"Notify the engineers, prepare for demolition, and destroy the Alien's incubation nest."
The Watch Sergeant, riding a Biochemical Warhorse, looked at the somewhat quiet Zerg Hatchery and gave the order to the Krieg Commissar beside him.
Soon, several Krieg engineer squads disembarked from the Gorgon armored assault transport and entered the incubation nest.
From time to time, the sounds of gunfire and Zerg roars drifted out from within the incubation nest.
Accompanied by an explosion that erupted from inside the Zerg Hatchery, scorching flames ignited the massive nest; the fire quickly spread upward from the bottom of the nest, and the sky-high flames were accompanied by the pungent, charred stench of the burning nest.
Xu Ke looked at the burning incubation nest and muttered somewhat unrealistically.
"Who would have thought that the Zerg's incubation nest had really been abandoned? They are truly planning to go to war with the Beast Race. This is truly good news for us."
"It's mainly because the commander was very decisive, sending troops out immediately; we just came along to tag along."
Xu Ke looked at the Guard following by his side and shook his head with a smile.
"Our task is to build defensive fortifications here. Once the incubation nest burns down in a while, we will start building the defensive fortifications here. You have to admit, when the Zerg build an incubation nest, sometimes the location is indeed quite good; it's a decent defensive spot."
After the incubation nest had been burned into a pile of charcoal, Xu Ke found the Krieg Commissar to discuss the matter of building the defensive fortifications.
"The Emperor's will is for you to build the defensive fortifications, and we will dig several trenches in front of the fortifications you build to prevent the Alien main force from attacking before the fortifications are completed."
Upon hearing Xu Ke's intent, the Krieg Commissar spoke up.
After hearing the Krieg Commissar's arrangement, Xu Ke nodded.
"No problem, we will start building the defensive fortifications right now."
The Krieg Commissar looked at Xu Ke and spoke slowly.
"I remember that before you arrived, you seemed to have only brought some building materials and no construction tools, not even entrenching tools."
Xu Ke shook his head and said to the Krieg Commissar with a smile.
"You don't need to worry about that; we have our own ways."
Seeing this, the Krieg Commissar said no more.
On Dan Jide's side, although they did not encounter any Zerg attacks, after arriving near the incubation nest, Dan Jide saw that the number of Zerglings around the nest had not decreased; they were as numerous as usual.
"The Zerg in this incubation nest don't seem to have decreased. Should we still attack?"
The Cadian Second Lieutenant glanced at Dan Jide and shook his head.
"No, we must attack; we have to attack. The Emperor's decree cannot be defied. Notify the armored units to prepare to cover the Leman Russ Tank advance; we are going to destroy this Alien incubation nest directly."
Dan Jide looked at this Cadian Second Lieutenant in surprise. Judging by the other party's appearance, he should be an officer. How did he plan to attack? By going head-on?
However, seeing this, Dan Jide said directly to this Cadian Second Lieutenant.
"We will help too. We can't just let you do the fighting in the front, right?"
The Cadian Second Lieutenant looked at Dan Jide and nodded.
"That works. You follow the armored units in the advance and join the main force in a head-on confrontation with the Aliens."
"Fine."
Dan Jide did not hesitate and agreed immediately.
Just kidding, he had fought quite a few battles himself; wasn't it just a head-on confrontation with the Zerg? Currently, apart from the common Zerglings, he hadn't seen any other types of Zerg on the other side.
Under the cover of the Chimera Armored Vehicle and the Leman Russ Tank, the advance of the Cadian soldiers and Vitrian Dragoons went exceptionally smoothly, and the Zerg they faced were only the weakest Zerglings; they hadn't seen a single Zerg of any other type.
Even until the incubation nest was blown up, Dan Jide still felt it was somewhat unreal.
That's it? That's it? He had thought that seeing so many Zerg outside meant they were the enemy's usual patrol squads, but he hadn't expected this to be the main force?
"Quick, report the situation here to the Command Camp. The Zerg Hatchery is now just a facade; it's just an empty shell inside!"
"Yes!"
Just as the communications soldier was about to leave, Dan Jide called him back and added.
"Also, notify our soldiers to prepare to build defensive fortifications in this vicinity; this place will become our new position!"
"Yes!"
The Cadian Second Lieutenant was currently chatting with the Vitrian Second Lieutenant. This battle had been won very easily; the Aliens left behind were clearly just putting on a show, but their trick had been seen through by the Emperor.
"Those troops the Emperor sent to follow us are quite skilled at building defensive fortifications. They are Psionics, right? The Emperor now actually..."
Before the Vitrian Second Lieutenant could finish speaking, he was interrupted by the Cadian Lieutenant, who changed the subject.
"I have noticed this issue too, but you should not speak nonsense. Since the Emperor has consented to their existence, we have no need to focus on those questions."
Reminded like this, the Vitrian Second Lieutenant whispered repeatedly.
"Praise the Emperor, praise the Emperor..."
Where the Zerg and the Beast Race are engaged in battle.
A large number of Zerglings rushed toward the Orc position. The Orcs on the position opened their mouths wide and used the large guns in their hands to shoot down the Zerglings rushing up.
In the sky, there were constantly flying insectoids with wings; their back wings were translucent, and they kept diving with the nearly one-meter-long spikes on their mouths, taking away the life of an Orc each time.
But the Beast Race was not being polite either; a squad of Beast Race warriors clad in heavy Rune Armor appeared on the battlefield, their height of nearly 2.5 meters making them particularly eye-catching on the battlefield.
A flying insectoid wanted to dive from the sky to attack these Beast Race warriors, but its nearly one-meter-long spike was instantly grabbed by a Beast Race warrior, who was wearing a full-protection Rune Helmet, which also had Buff Runes branded on it by the Priest of the tribe.
"Hahaha, is that all you've got? Go to hell!"
Having said that, he raised the axe in his hand that looked like a chain saw; the chain saw on the axe blade began to vibrate and emitted a pale blue Rune Power, splitting the flying insectoid in two with a single strike.
"Hahaha, this weapon researched by Lord Maike is truly easy to use!"
"You idiot! This kind of weapon is of course meant for dealing with those big guys; the Rune Power on it is used up a little every time it's used."
"Then let's crush these bugs hard!"
These Beast Race warriors picked up the weapons in their hands and began a massacre; any Zerg that approached them was torn to shreds.
Moreover, their large guns were even more fierce than those of other Beast Race warriors, with a magazine capacity twice as large as that of ordinary Beast Race warriors.
Any Zerglings that tried to approach them were all torn apart by the barrage, and Zerg fragments were scattered all over the ground.
