Chapter 333: Buffer Zone
Only after the man in black had left did the thin man heave a sigh of relief, patting Geerman on the shoulder as he spoke.
"Don't get worked up. In any case, these nobles won't have many good days left. Once the Hell Gate opens, it won't be too late for us to settle the score with those nobles."
Geerman wiped the spit from his face with his hand and slowly opened his mouth to speak to the thin man.
"I understand. How did you know that the nobles were still keeping private soldiers?"
A trace of a smile squeezed onto the thin man's face as he chuckled at Geerman and said.
"Our people are everywhere. Not to mention private soldiers, even in the Military District, there are quite a few of our Believers. Alright, just wait for news with peace of mind. After we get out, you must follow the church Believers to open the Hell Gate. Once the Hell Gate is opened, you will be free to move about."
"I understand. As long as my family is safe, nothing else matters. Those damned nobles—it is because of them that people like us have to suffer such pain."
Geerman's voice was very flat, but his eyes were filled with rage.
"Sigh, we are all fellow sufferers. My experiences are no better than yours, which is why I want to make those high-and-mighty noble lords taste the pain we have endured, no matter the cost."
After the thin man finished this sentence, he began to do his own work and spoke no more.
Geerman cast a glance at the thin man. After saying those words, the thin man's mood seemed to have become somewhat dejected, but Geerman only glanced a few times before continuing his own work.
He was just an ordinary person, unable to even grasp his own fate, so he shouldn't overthink things; seeing Marie and Charlie as soon as possible was the most important thing for him right now.
Thinking of this, Geerman's cracked lips parted slightly, and he muttered to himself in a voice he could barely hear himself.
"Marie, Charlie, I wonder how you are doing now?"
Where the Zerg and Beast Race engage in battle.
At this moment, the battlefield was covered in severed limbs and broken arms; fragments of the Zerg and torsos of the Beast Race were strewn across the entire battlefield, and even the ground had sunk significantly. On the scorched earth, some Zerg transport bugs were recovering corpse fragments from the battlefield and taking them back to the Hatchery for decomposition.
Yet, on the side of the Beast Race positions, there was not the slightest intention to open fire. Both sides had fallen into a delicate period of calm. Both sides had committed quite a lot of troops to this battle, and the scale was growing larger and larger, until the Beast Race High Priest Wali told the Beast Race warriors to stop fighting the Zerg, at which point the Zerg side also tacitly withdrew their troops, and both sides began to return to their initial state of confrontation.
"Strange, why did the High Priest want us to stop fighting? Those bugs killed so many of our brothers; are we just going to let it go like this?"
A Beast Race warrior standing on the new position looked at the transport bugs on the battlefield moving the corpses, bared his Liaya in dissatisfaction, and spoke in a disgruntled tone.
"Exactly! We aren't afraid of them. Those hateful bugs—if I run into them, I'll just blow them to pieces!"
Another Beast Race warrior chimed in, and as he spoke, he boastfully brandished his War Blade, his gaze looking toward the battlefield filled with bloodlust.
Just then, a Beast Race Decurion came behind the two Beast Race warriors, raised a large hand, and slapped it fiercely onto the heads of the two Beast Race warriors, sternly scolding them.
"What the hell are you all doing? There will be plenty of opportunities to deal with those bugs later. Right now, the High Priest is negotiating with the Mother Bug on the bugs' side, wanting to temporarily cease fire first and wipe out the Human forces within our own territory before dealing with the problem here."
"Yes, sir."
After being slapped, the two Beast Race warriors let their green ears droop slightly and answered.
At the location of the Beast Race Base Camp, outside Wali's tent, dozens of tall and fierce-looking Rune warriors stood straight. They held Biting Battle Axes, exuding a chilling aura, and surrounded the entire tent so tightly that not a drop of water could pass through, not allowing any member of the Beast Race to approach easily.
Inside the tent, one could see a main seat placed in the very center, crafted from the bones of Two-legged Sheep, with a soft fur cushion spread over it. Wali was dressed in a luxurious Priest Changpao, the robe embroidered with mysterious and complex Rune patterns that flickered with a faint light. He sat upright on the main seat, his eyes closed as if in meditation.
Beside Wali, a pitch-black staff inlaid with precious gems leaned quietly against the side of the seat. This staff emitted wisps of ghostly blue light from time to time.
Wali's consciousness was currently in a space, quietly waiting for something.
Soon, an energy fluctuation rippled around the space, and Wali slowly opened his mouth to speak.
"Since you've come, let's have a good chat. Our Beast Emperor has already negotiated with your Mother God regarding this war. After all, it was our side that initiated the attack, but that was just an accident. I didn't expect things to blow up so big that both the Beast Emperor and the Zerg Mother God had to intervene. The other major powers are also watching our war here, seeing if this battle will break the rules between the several races."
A sharp screech came from the space, which, after passing through Wali's space, was automatically converted into the Beast Race language.
"An accident? This was a provocation on your part to begin with! But you're right, this farce really should stop. Let's end it here. If our conflict disturbs the interest of those few above, it would be troublesome."
Seeing that the other party seemed to have also received a reminder from the Zerg Mother God, and that the negotiation was unexpectedly smooth, Wali stopped talking, went straight to the topic, and said.
"Then how about our two races leave a buffer zone between us and first wipe out the Human forces within our respective spheres of influence?"
"Hmm, then let it be so."
Feeling a ripple pass through his space again, Wali let his consciousness return to his own body. Slowly opening his eyes and seeing the situation inside the tent, Wali tapped his Liaya with his right hand and muttered to himself in a low voice.
"I heard that the Human forces on the Zerg side are counterattacking even more severely; their entire position has pushed forward quite a bit. The Human forces on the Zerg side are even harder to chew than the ones on our side."
Thinking of this, Wali slapped his thigh and shouted loudly to the Rune warriors outside.
"Have the frontline warriors retreat. Leave a batch of warriors here to guard, and the remaining warriors will follow me back to rest and reorganize, preparing to take down that Fourth Defense Zone. Because of the matters here, those Two-legged Sheep have been allowed to linger on for a while longer."
Upon hearing Wali's order, several Rune warriors immediately left Wali's tent to convey Wali's order to the various positions.
After ending the negotiation, the Mother Bug saw the Beast Race retreating through the perspective of the frontline transport bugs, and then also conveyed her message to the children on the front line.
"Children, begin to retreat, then return to the Ninth Defense Zone. Let those Humans know how foolish it is for them to jump out and expand their positions after we leave!"
The two races thus tacitly left an empty buffer zone, and the corpses within the buffer zone were also taken away by a large number of transport bugs dispatched by the Zerg.
