Chapter 578: Battle of the Legions (2)

A Scythe Bug had just raised its sickle-like forelimbs when a chainaxe cleaved through its carapace from bottom to top.

As the teeth of the chainaxe made contact with the carapace, the Scythe Bug's shell splattered everywhere, and its corpse, mixed with viscous green blood, collapsed to the ground.

The axe's remaining momentum sheared off the appendages of a second Swift Bug, and the moment the Swift Bug lost its balance, Fuderi's ceramite combat boot crushed its skull.

Three Giant Pincer Bugs attacked Fuderi from different directions, their massive pincers snapping toward him.

A scarlet targeting reticle flashed inside his MK2 Helmet; Fuderi exerted a sudden burst of strength in his arm, and the chainaxe carved a perfect arc.

The mandibles of the Giant Pincer Bug on the left were sawn off in a row, the one in the center had its skull shattered by the impact spike on the back of the axe, and the one on the right was sliced in two from its mouthparts to its tail by the downward follow-through.

The dark green viscera were still writhing as they splashed onto the trench steel plates, only to be charred to cinders by a Valhalla soldier who arrived shortly after with a flamethrower.

"Kill!"

Fuderi saw a Death Servant Bug knock a Human Alliance soldier flying, then pierce the skull of a Valhalla soldier with its sickle-like forelimbs, which were coated in blue plasma.

For a moment, a red-and-white mixture splattered, and a wisp of white smoke rose up.

"Alien! Your death day has arrived!"

Fuderi bent his knees and leaped three meters high; the blade of the chainaxe precisely cut into the neck of the Death Servant Bug, the immense kinetic energy flipping the Death Servant Bug's massive body over, while its small head was severed and fell to the ground.

"For the Lord of Red Sand!"

Fuderi roared, thrusting his left hand deep into the eyeball of an Electric Gun Bug, and using the force of his descent, he ripped the entire head along with the spine out from the carapace.

The soldiers on the defensive line watched that blue-and-white figure wreak havoc among the swarm, the roar of the chainaxe accompanied by the Zerg's severed limbs splattering everywhere.

Seeing Fuderi and the other War Dog Space Marines leading the charge to eliminate the Zerg, the soldiers within the defensive line let out roars of their own.

"For the Emperor!"

Private Second Class Li Chengyi saw two reptiles covered in sharp spikes climbing up from outside the trench.

The limbs of these things were as thin as bamboo poles, but the bone spur on their heads was at least half a meter long.

Li Chengyi immediately turned the muzzle of his stubber and opened fire on this Zerg, the powerful firepower instantly turning the Zerg into a sieve.

"Left!"

A nearby Human Alliance soldier tossed over a Spirit Pattern Combat Knife, and Li Chengyi snatched it up and slashed.

As the pincers of a Giant Pincer Bug grazed his neck, the blade chopped right into the bug's body, spraying his hands full of viscous green blood.

Blue light suddenly exploded in the trench.

Three Electric Gun Bugs charged into the defensive line and fired plasma bombs at two Human Alliance soldiers who were reloading; the two Human Alliance soldiers instantly turned into smoking, unrecognizable objects.

Li Chengyi smelled the scent of roasted meat mixed with acidic, rotting bug blood and realized his stubber needed a reload.

"Watch out for the alien's plasma bombs!"

A Valhalla sergeant grabbed him by the collar and dragged him behind cover, while half of the sergeant's own body leaned out of the trench.

The laser beams from a laser gun quickly struck down the three Electric Gun Bugs.

The blue plasma flowing out of the Electric Gun Bugs corroded the steel plate floor, sizzling and smoking.

"Boom—!"

A Scythe Bug broke in from the flank, cutting a Human Alliance soldier directly in half at the waist.

The Human Alliance soldier's fingers gripped the trigger of his laser gun tightly until he was submerged by the swarm, pulling the pin on a fragmentation grenade at the very last moment, blooming with a dazzling light in the final second of his life.

"For the Emperor!"

Li Chengyi tore the fragmentation grenade from his belt and threw it into the tunnel left behind by a Burrowing Bug nearest to his position.

After throwing the fragmentation grenade, a 2.2-meter-tall blue-and-white figure suddenly charged out from behind him.

Tolemi jumped straight into the pile of bugs, his chainaxe spinning like an electric fan, slicing the various Zerg around him one by one.

The splattered fragments of bug corpses had already paved the entire defensive line; everywhere was filled with viscous green blood and the severed limbs of the Zerg, mixed in with some red blood.

"Provide covering fire!"

After the Valhalla sergeant finished replacing the charging pack for his laser gun, he shouted to Li Chengyi, who was gripping his Spirit Pattern Combat Knife.

Human Alliance soldier Dong Jiemian had just used her laser gun to kill a Spike Bug that appeared in front of her when a Swift Bug pounced out from the side of the trench and knocked her down.

Acid from the bug's mouth dripped onto her visor; Dong Jiemian felt for the Spirit Pattern Combat Knife at her waist and stabbed it into the Swift Bug's neck with all her might.

Not until the Swift Bug before her stopped moving did Dong Jiemian push the Swift Bug's corpse away with force.

Just then, Dong Jiemian saw a one-armed Valhalla sergeant raise a laser pistol at her.

A laser beam flew over her head, and a Spike Bug was killed once again.

"Get up! Soldier! Don't just lie there, the battle isn't over yet!"

She shook her smoking laser pistol and turned to blast a Spike Bug that was attempting to climb over the barbed wire.

The entire battlefield had now become a meat grinder; life ebbed away rapidly here, and everywhere was filled with the sound of artillery. Even within the range of the artillery barrage, the boundless Insect Tide suffered heavy losses.

Fuderi could no longer remember how many aliens he had cut down; he only knew that the number of aliens before him kept surging forward.

And before him appeared a Crystal Death Servant and a Black Wing Bug.
