Chapter 63: Distress Signal
"The Beast Race must surely know of your unit by now, and they will certainly take precautions. My suggestion is to suspend the harassment operations against the Beast Race," Hu Jie suggested from the side.
"Hmm, that's perfect. Yingzhou, have your soldiers train the brothers of the 13th Legion; it will save them from being weaker than even one of your men day after day. Let them learn the combat techniques of veteran jungle fighters," Nie Hao said, expressing his agreement after hearing Hu Jie's words.
"Just as Hu Jie said, the Beast Race is definitely guarding against you continuing to harass them. We'll just leave them hanging for a while and let them wait in vain! Hahaha."
Seeing that the two had already decided on this matter, Yingzhou had no choice but to agree, though he had originally intended to press the advantage and return only after a couple more days.
"Yes!"
Yingzhou walked out of the tent and called over the five squad members standing not far away, "We are temporarily not going to the Beast Territory to carry out tasks."
"Really? To be honest, Captain, fighting in the Orcs' territory always makes me feel uneasy."
"What's there to be afraid of? With the Captain here, when have those Beast Race members not been thwarted by him?"
Seeing his team members looking happy, Yingzhou spoke up, "The Legion Commander just said that, apart from the daily patrol personnel, my soldiers will train the other soldiers, including you all."
The air suddenly fell into Silence, and the expressions of the several team members became very stiff; clearly, they knew about the monstrous nature of the Catachan Warriors.
"Rest well, and remember to get up early for training tomorrow," Yingzhou said to the team members with a smile.
"Ah..."
Yingzhou ignored their wailing and returned to his own tent.
Soon, this news became known to others in the camp, which made some people unable to sit still.
"Damn it, I'm a veteran of the dignified 13th Legion, and I've killed quite a few Orcs myself, yet I'm actually going to be trained by summoned soldiers?"
"Exactly, if this gets out, wouldn't it be embarrassing?"
At this moment, the members of Yingzhou's squad spoke up.
"You guys shouldn't say that; the soldier our Captain summoned can beat us black and blue."
Clearly, these soldiers who had never seen the Catachan Jungle Fighters fight did not believe their claims at all.
Deji was preparing a ritual in a camp; as long as the ritual was completed, those Two-legged Sheep would be trapped here once they arrived, and their Spiritual Power would be restricted, preventing them from exerting their strength in this camp.
Thinking of this, a sinister grin appeared on Deji's ugly face.
"Hurry up, everyone! This time we will make those Two-legged Sheep livestock pay the price they deserve and make them regret being our enemies!"
Upon hearing the Priest's words, the surrounding Orcs roared excitedly.
"Roar!"
Several Orcs brought a group of Two-legged Sheep—who were barely clothed, had dull and lifeless eyes, and had Runes carved onto their faces—before the Priest.
"Priest, these are all the Two-legged Sheep in this camp," an Orc said respectfully.
"Hmm, prepare to begin," Deji slowly stood up, gripped his staff in his hand, and said to the Orcs.
A group of Orcs shouted incantations that sounded like gibberish, while the several Orcs who had driven the Two-legged Sheep before the Priest solemnly raised the Battle Axes in their hands, chanting as they did so.
The Orc Priest circled the group of sacrifices known as Two-legged Sheep and began to perform an exaggerated and strange dance. His movements were twisted and frantic, as if he wanted to drag the entire world into it. He kept shouting at the top of his lungs: "Offer your flesh and blood to the great gods, and let this land become a cage! Let the kin of these sacrifices never return!"
It circled clockwise three times, then counter-clockwise three times.
Finally, it returned to the spot where it had first stood, a look of piety appearing on its ugly face. It raised its staff high and shouted with a pious voice: "The ritual begins!"
As its voice fell, the Orcs who had been holding their Battle Axes high immediately swung their massive weapons. The Battle Axes carved an arc through the air, carrying a sharp whistling wind as they hacked toward the group of innocent sacrifices.
The sound of axe blades cutting into flesh rose one after another, and blood splattered everywhere. The black earth was gradually stained with a layer of bright red, forming a sharp contrast with the darkness. A thick, bloody stench permeated the air, making one feel nauseated.
The axes continued to swing, and life after life vanished in an instant.
The Orc Priest stood to the side, witnessing all of this, a glimmer of excitement flashing in its eyes.
A moment later, the ground was already piled with broken parts and flowing blood.
That patch of land was stained a deep scarlet, as terrifying as hell.
The staff in its hand flashed with a touch of blood-red, and with the sacrifices as the center, it enveloped the entire camp before vanishing.
The Orc Priest laughed triumphantly, "Now, we only need to wait for those Two-legged Sheep to deliver themselves to our door."
Human Alliance Ninth Defense Zone High-Level Meeting Room.
"The high command of the Fourth Defense Zone has sent us a distress signal, requesting our support. The Orcs have already breached their Outer City, the residents of the Outer City are being slaughtered, and the Inner City will soon fall as well."
Before the conference table, a young woman was reporting the distress signal sent from the Fourth Defense Zone today to the Nine-Member Council.
"Selina, those guys in the Fourth Defense Zone—their Outer City is broken, but don't they still have the Inner City? We are currently locked in battle with the Zerg in our Ninth Defense Zone, so how can we help them? Besides, the Beast Race is also coveting our territory; isn't that 13th Legion fighting the Orcs?"
On the projector, a middle-aged man with a receding hairline wore a troubled expression as he spoke to Selina at the conference table.
"Jack, you can't say it like that. When the Human Alliance set up the nine defense zones to resist the invasion of the Alien Race, only three remain today. If we don't help our compatriots in the Fourth Defense Zone, then after the Fourth Defense Zone falls, only our Ninth Defense Zone and the Sixth Defense Zone will be left."
At this time, an old man sitting at the very edge of the conference table spoke up.
"Lu Yang, don't you know the situation in our Ninth Zone right now? We can barely protect ourselves, so how can we manage other defense zones? If we had spare capacity now, of course we could help the Fourth Defense Zone, but we are almost at our limit ourselves, so how can we manage the affairs of other defense zones?" Jack retorted, seeing someone wanting to support the Fourth Defense Zone.
"Our Military District truly has no spare troops to support other defense zones. If we divert too many troops to support the Fourth Defense Zone, then the fate of the Fourth Defense Zone might just be our future," Ji Bu said from the projector.
Seeing his suggestion refuted by two members, Lu Yang was not discouraged and spoke unhurriedly, "However, the Orcs have already begun preparing to invade us at the location of the 13th Legion. If the Fourth Defense Zone falls completely, then our location will certainly become the Orcs' next target. Although the Orcs might have some conflicts with the Zerg, that would only be a matter for after our Ninth Defense Zone is breached."
Lu Yang's words caused everyone in the Meeting Room to fall into a brief Silence; after all, this was a matter that endangered the Ninth Defense Zone.
