Chapter 890: My Name is Sanguinius (2)
As the words fell, Sanguinius did not give Grendel another chance to speak.
His figure flickered slightly, appearing before Grendel.
Grendel only saw a golden afterimage and that burning Spear magnifying before his eyes.
Crack!
A crisp shattering sound rang out.
The mirrored mask of Special Envoy Grendel, which symbolized his status and power, along with his head, were easily shattered by Sanguinius's Spear.
The headless corpse swayed and fell to the ground, its fingers still maintaining a forward-reaching posture.
The once arrogant Special Envoy of the Fengqi Star Alliance, Grendel, died humbly on foreign soil, just like those innocent people he regarded as "slag."
Sanguinius flicked his Spear, shaking off the filth stained upon it, and the psychic flames burned purely once more.
He turned around, looked at the Faliusi squad still kneeling on one knee, and spoke in a calm tone.
"Rise, my sons, you have done well. Cleanse this planet, save all the innocent, and eliminate all resistance. Let the glory of the Human race shine upon this suffering world."
"For the Emperor! For Sanguinius!"
Faliusi and the squad members roared in unison, their voices filled with fanaticism.
Sanguinius nodded, his wings flapping slightly behind him, and his entire being turned into a golden stream of light once more, soaring into the sky and disappearing into the horizon.
Faliusi stood up, looked at Grendel's headless corpse on the ground, and then looked at the Shuttle.
"Elaxiong, inspect the Shuttle and collect all data. Faniousi, check if there are any remaining threats. Everyone else, clear the battlefield and establish a stronghold. We will use this as a core to completely liberate this city."
"Yes, Sergeant!"
Longyou Shuangzixing, Mi-You Star, Liuli City, Lower District passage.
A tremendous roaring sound pressed down from beyond the dome overhead.
Immediately following were continuous sounds of impact.
The entire Liuli City was trembling.
Lia and her colleagues were also left completely bewildered by this noise and vibration.
"What is going on?!"
"Is it a bigger explosion?"
"The ceiling is going to collapse!"
People screamed as they looked for cover.
Lia thought the previous suppression was the limit of terror, but now it seemed that was nothing.
Boom!!!
A loud noise exploded above Lia's head.
Accompanied by the rumbling sound of structural collapse.
Some of the surrounding buildings became ruins.
"Ah—!"
"Help!"
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Screams, cries, and coughing sounds blended together.
Lia was left dizzy and dazed, her ears buzzing.
Lia struggled to crawl out from under the ruins and looked back; she was lucky that the collapsed wall leaned against another wall, which prevented her from being buried.
"Airstrike! It's an orbital airstrike!"
"Run!"
What happened again? Is the Fengqi Star Alliance having an internal conflict? Or... other enemies?
Before Lia could figure it out, the doors of those landed drop pods opened, and a burst of white steam surged out.
Amidst the pervasive dust and white mist, huge red figures walked out one by one!
The Fengqi soldiers who were originally suppressing civilians and mopping up the remnants of the "Survivor" groups began to fire at these suddenly appearing red giants.
Energy beams and live ammunition shot toward them like raindrops.
But most of the attacks only sparked a series of flashes upon the red Power Armor.
And every time the giant guns in the hands of those red giants roared, a Fengqi soldier was inevitably blown to pieces.
They moved very quickly, their tactical movements were concise and efficient, and wherever they passed, only broken corpses and burning wreckage remained.
"What... what is that?!"
A female colleague hiding next to Lia screamed uncontrollably.
"They... they are attacking the Fengqi people!"
Another male colleague said stutteringly.
Lia also watched this scene before her, her thoughts racing.
What are these red giants? Where did they come from? Why are they attacking the Fengqi Star Alliance?
The chaotic battlefield was spreading.
The Fengqi soldiers wanted to organize resistance, but in the face of absolute power and tactical disparity, their defensive lines were constantly broken through and disintegrated.
Some Fengqi soldiers, blinded by bloodlust, began to vent their anger over the failure onto those defenseless civilians.
"It's all because of you scum that they were drawn here!"
"If it weren't for your rebellion, how could it have come to this!"
"Die! Let's all die together!"
Several retreating Fengqi soldiers saw the ruins where the Liuli City civilians were hiding, raised their Energy Rifles, and strafed the ruins!
"No!"
"Help!"
The civilians hiding inside let out desperate cries.
Energy beams struck the broken walls and ruins, blasting apart countless fragments of stone and dust; two people were hit instantly, falling onto the ruins with miserable screams.
Lia covered her ears and curled up in a corner, feeling the breath of death brush past her.
She could hear the soldiers' curses and their footsteps drawing closer.
A Fengqi soldier with a scar on his face discovered Lia, turned his muzzle toward her, and cursed angrily.
"Stinking woman! Go to hell!"
Lia closed her eyes in despair.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A burst of heavy gunfire rang out nearby!
Accompanied by the Fengqi soldiers' short, sharp screams and the sound of bodies hitting the ground.
Lia opened her eyes.
She saw that those few Fengqi soldiers who had been venting their rage on the civilians were all lying on the ground, dead in miserable states—some were missing half their heads, while others had large holes blown through their chests.
And behind them, three massive red figures were walking over with steady strides.
Wisps of blue smoke were still rising from their muzzles.
It was those red giants! They... they killed those soldiers?
Saved? Lia's mind went blank, unable to comprehend everything happening before her eyes.
One red giant stepped forward, and the shadow cast by his massive body completely enveloped Lia.
The giant lowered his head, and Lia was so terrified that her whole body stiffened, unable to move.
She saw the giant extend an armored finger, point at Lia, then point at the other shivering survivors behind her, and finally point toward the entrance of a relatively intact and sturdy underground bunker not far away.
"Go... go there?"
Lia mustered the courage to ask.
The red giant's helmet moved slightly, then he ignored them further, turned around to form a combat formation with his two companions, and continued to advance.
The immense shock of surviving the ordeal left Lia nearly collapsed.
She and several other surviving colleagues supported each other and rushed toward that underground bunker entrance.
Along the way, she saw more red giants fighting on the city streets.
They were destroying the Fengqi soldiers and vehicles one by one.
These red giants... they seemed... not to be here to slaughter?
They were attacking the Fengqi Star Alliance, but at the same time... they were protecting the civilians?
Lia stumbled into the dark bunker entrance and huddled together with the other survivors, listening to the intense gunfire and explosions outside, her brain struggling to digest what had happened today.
Her world had been completely overturned in an instant.
The old oppressors were being crushed by an unknown force.
What would the future hold? Who were these red giants? Would they become the new rulers?
