Chapter 925: Feng Qi Xing Starport (2)
"Weike! Kern!"
A familiar voice came from the other end of the cafeteria.
The two turned their heads to see Aila walking over while waving, her silver skin shining slightly under the cafeteria lights.
Aila was a Visate; as a technical expert in the engineering department, she often cooperated with the Weike Patrol Squad. She was also a powerful Psionic.
"Heard you saved a little one this morning?"
Aila asked as she sat down.
Kern said with his mouth full of food,
"Just a routine lost-child incident. But that kid was quite brave; didn't cry or make a fuss."
Aila smiled slightly.
"Much better than that merchant who got stuck in the pipes for three hours last time."
Weike recalled that incident and couldn't help but shake his head.
A Gerak merchant had tried to "shorten the route" and ended up stuck in a maintenance pipe; it took them most of the day to get him out.
Weike looked at the large screen in the center of the cafeteria and spoke up.
"Speaking of merchants, the diplomatic mission should have arrived by now."
The screen was broadcasting the welcome ceremony, with representatives from other Star Alliances or factions walking down the passenger ship ramp one after another.
High-ranking officers of the Fengqi Star Alliance were lined up to greet them, including our Starport's Commander, General Suo'er.
"Is that the representative of the Kelina? Their feathers are even more vibrant than the last time I saw them."
"Diplomatic occasions always require some dressing up."
Aila gently used her Psionic power to levitate a spoonful of gel into her mouth.
"The mission is larger than usual; it might not just be a routine visit."
Aila nodded.
"I heard from the engineering department that they brought some new technology to showcase, which might be related to the Starport upgrade."
The group ate while discussing the political situation of the Star Alliance, an eternal topic for soldiers.
The afternoon patrol Task was relatively simple, mainly checking safety equipment and monitoring systems.
At a monitoring point in Zone D-2, Weike and the other encountered a technical team debugging new sensors.
"These are the latest model Quantum Fluctuation Detectors, which can detect abnormal spatial fluctuations that conventional scans cannot find."
Kern curiously leaned in to look and asked the engineer who was explaining.
"Can it catch cloaked units?"
"Theoretically, any object moving in normal space will produce tiny fluctuations; even the most advanced cloaking technology currently available cannot completely avoid it."
Weike noticed that Aila was also in the technical team; she was closing her eyes, lightly touching the surface of the sensor with her hands, using her Psionic power to calibrate it.
"Weike, come try this."
Aila opened her eyes and beckoned to Weike.
Weike walked over, and Aila signaled for Weike to place his hand on a panel next to the sensor.
"Use your Third Eye to focus on the central node, and at the same time, imagine extending your vision to the entire area."
Weike did as she said; at first, there was nothing special, but gradually, Weike was able to "see" a three-dimensional image of the entire Zone D-2, including energy flows, signs of life, and the subtle curvature of space itself.
"This... how is this done?"
Weike asked in surprise.
"The sensor enhances your natural ability; you Fengqi's Third Eye is inherently sensitive to spatial anomalies, it's just that most people haven't undergone specialized training."
Weike continued to experience this expanded perception, feeling as if he had become a part of the Starport.
In this state, no anomaly could hide.
Weike withdrew his hand, and his perception returned to the normal range.
"Incredible, if all Fengqi soldiers could use this technology..."
Before Weike could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by the engineer on the side.
"That requires a massive amount of training and talent; currently, only a few Psionics can safely operate this equipment."
Kern patted Weike on the shoulder.
"Looks like we have a potential sharpshooter in our squad, Weike. Your Third Eye is already accurate, and with this technology..."
Weike shook his head and replied.
"This is just a prototype device; it's still far from practical combat application."
Soon, the two finished their patrol and returned to the duty point to return their equipment.
On the way back to the dormitory, the two passed the Starport's observation deck, where quite a few people had already gathered, all wanting to catch a glimpse of the diplomatic mission.
Kern suggested.
"Want to take a look? There's still time before the shift change anyway."
"Let's go!"
The observation deck was one of the few leisure areas in the Starport open to all personnel, from where one could overlook the main dock and part of the berthing area.
The platform was bustling with crowds, with various races mixed together; Weike noticed that it wasn't just soldiers, but many staff members and merchants were also staying here to watch the diplomatic activities below.
The mission members were visiting the central area of the main dock, personally accompanied by General Suo'er.
From the height where Weike was, one could clearly see the peculiar appearances of the representatives of different races.
Kern pointed to a group of soldiers who had just gotten off a transport ship and said to Weike.
"Look over there, is that the Storm Assault Team?"
Weike looked in the direction he pointed and indeed saw a team of soldiers wearing unique black uniforms.
The Storm Assault Team is the elite force of Fengrao Starport, known for its multi-species coordinated combat capabilities.
"Their equipment is much better than ours, the latest Energy Rifles, and custom Power Armor."
"The strength of the Star Alliance lies not just in technology, but in how we integrate different powers together."
The two turned around and saw an elderly Fengqi Military officer standing behind them.
"Major!"
"Hmm."
The Major walked to the railing and looked down at the busy scene below.
"Fengrao Starport may not be the largest Starport, but it is the most important hub in the Seventh Star Sector. It demonstrates the true power of the Star Alliance; people of different races, different cultures, and different abilities become stronger under the leadership of the Star Alliance."
The Major pointed to the crowd below.
"See those merchants? They come from over a dozen different star systems. Those engineers? They represent at least five different technological traditions."
Weike nodded, understanding what the Major meant.
Back at the training camp, they were told that the strength of the Star Alliance lay in diversity, but it wasn't until being assigned to Fengrao Starport that Weike truly realized this.
The Major checked the time and spoke.
"I have to attend tonight's reception. Keep up the good work, soldiers."
After the Major left, Kern whistled.
"Didn't expect the Major to chat with us."
"Doesn't that just show the Major is a kind person?"
"True."
The two stayed on the observation deck for a while longer, until the sky simulation system began to shift to dusk mode.
The "sky" of the Starport is simulated by a massive dome display, which cycles day and night according to standard time to help maintain the biological rhythms of the personnel.
On the way back to the dormitory, Weike ran into Aila, who was inspecting the energy pipelines.
"Aila, what are you doing?"
"Just finished calibrating a Psychic Matrix to provide power for the new defense system."
"Is that the project you mentioned last time?"
Weike asked.
A few weeks ago, Aila had mentioned that the Starport was upgrading its defense system to deal with potential space threats.
"Among today's diplomatic delegation, there are representatives from the Highest Academy of Sciences of the Daikong Star Alliance. They might decide whether to deploy the latest Psionic Barrier technology here."
Kern leaned in curiously.
"What is that thing?"
"Simply put, it's an energy field driven by a Psionic that can deflect small meteorites or even enemy fire. If approved, Fengrao Starport will become the first base in the Seventh Star Sector to be equipped with this system."
"I hope they approve it," Kern said, "I'd rather patrol behind a strong barrier than take a Rune Bullet to the face after the barrier overloads."
Aila stood up and answered simply.
"Let's hope so."
