Chapter 990: Who Is It Again?
Bridge of the Fengqi command ship.
Lieutenant General Horn looked at the deep blue fleet cutting into his own formation on the tactical screen.
The opponent's numbers were indeed fewer than his complete fleet, but that fierce offensive was completely different from the "Dusk Raiders" who had fought to the death without retreating before.
"Left flank! The left flank frigate group has been breached! Those Xiuluosheng destroyers are too fast!"
Horn gave a low shout.
"Shut up! I can see! Order the *Thunderstorm* and *Lightning* cruisers to move up! Stop them! The right flank is to maintain fire suppression! Don't panic! We have the numerical advantage!"
However, after Horn's orders were issued, the battlefield situation did not improve.
The Luna Wolves' destroyers and light cruisers used their speed and firepower advantages to continuously tear at the outer defensive lines of the Fengqi fleet, while their cruisers fired volleys of light lances from the rear.
A light lance fired from a Luna Wolves cruiser, overloading the ship-borne void shield of a Fengqi frigate and leaving a huge molten hole in its hull; that frigate immediately lost most of its power.
Horn slammed a fist onto the control console and roared.
"Bastards! Where is our firepower? Concentrate fire on that lead capital ship!"
"General, the enemy ships have too much mobility, it is difficult for our firepower to be effectively concentrated! And their small craft are harassing us too severely!"
Horn watched as the light dots representing his own ships on the screen dimmed and disappeared one by one, while the enemy, although also suffering damage, was far from as devastated as his own. He said in a low voice.
"How could they be so familiar with combat? Aren't they a force that just emerged? How long has it even been?"
A Luna Wolves Dreadnought-class light cruiser.
"Hit on the port side! Well done! Loading crew, speed it up! Let's give those alien bastards another hard one!"
The voice of Weideng, Company Commander of the 7th Company of the Luna Wolves, echoed within the bridge.
Through the observation window, the scene of the space battle outside could be seen.
Energy beams crisscrossed, but every flash of explosion meant the destruction or severe damage of a ship.
"Company Commander, the No. 3 macro-cannon turret has been destroyed, five casualties. The void shield generator is overloaded, it needs thirty seconds to cool down."
The tech-sergeant reported the damage.
Weideng waved a large hand and ordered.
"It doesn't matter! As long as the engines can still move and the main guns can still fire, keep moving forward! See that chubby Fengqi cruiser on the right? It wants to slip away! Turn the ship 15 degrees to the left, open all torpedo tubes, and break its legs for me!"
This Dreadnought-class light cruiser shifted its hull, and several torpedoes trailing exhaust flames lunged toward the target.
At the same time, the light lance at the bow flickered again, striking near the engine exhaust of the target cruiser.
"Hit! Target engine efficiency dropped by over sixty percent!"
"Haha! Good! Notify the boarding party to get ready! Once it slows down further, we'll pull up alongside and let our warriors stretch their muscles!"
Weideng rubbed his hands excitedly.
To him, boarding actions were where the true glory of the Luna Wolves lay.
A Luna Wolves Space Marine looked at the intense battle outside and asked.
"Company Commander, the enemy's numbers seem to be quite a bit higher than ours, wouldn't this be too..."
Weideng turned his head, patted the Luna Wolves Space Marine on the shoulder, and grinned.
"Kid, remember, a wolf pack never looks at how many sheep there are; they only care which sheep is the fattest and easiest to take a bite out of. Numbers? In the face of absolute strength and tactics, they are nothing but the digits of sheep waiting to be slaughtered! Watch closely how we hunt!"
Inside a Fengqi cruiser.
Corporal Kamin huddled behind a blown-up pipe, the energy rifle in his hands trembling slightly.
The cruiser he was on had been rammed by that damned Xiuluosheng ship earlier, and intense fighting was still breaking out inside.
Although those Super Soldiers wearing unpainted power armor were few in number, they were elusive within the intricate corridors, and many areas had already fallen.
"Corporal! Three o'clock direction! There's movement!"
A Fengqi soldier nearby pointed in terror at the smoke-filled corner of the corridor.
Kamin took a deep breath and said.
"Steady! Aim! Wait for them to show their heads..."
Before he could finish his sentence, a roar of bolters came from the side!
"The side! It's the side!"
Kamin turned his head abruptly, only to see several Super Soldiers wearing gray-white power armor with wolf-head emblems on their shoulder pads rushing in through a breach in the hull that had been blown open!
"It's... it's the Xiuluosheng Super Soldiers! They've boarded the ship!"
Compared to the silent slaughter of the Dusk Raiders, the Luna Wolves' attack was more violent.
They coordinated with each other and instantly tore apart the defensive line that Kamin's squad had hastily organized.
"For the Emperor!"
A Luna Wolves Space Marine shouted a war cry, and a chainsword sawed a resisting Fengqi soldier in two, armor and all.
Kamin only managed to fire one shot, the energy beam leaving only a charred little hole on the opponent's chest plate; the next second, he felt a huge force hit him, and his whole body was sent flying, slamming heavily against the bulkhead, losing consciousness.
It's over... completely over...
"10 seconds to boarding! Check your gear! For Horus!"
Inside the Thunderhawk gunship, the voice of Sergeant Bikali of the squad came through the helmet communicator.
The 10 Luna Wolves assault troopers checked their bolters and melee weapons one last time.
Boom!
A heavy impact was felt; the Thunderhawk gunship successfully docked against the side of a Fengqi destroyer.
"For Horus! For the Emperor!"
Bikali rushed out first, his bolter spewing deadly tongues of fire, clearing out the panicked Fengqi soldiers nearby.
The assault troopers quickly occupied the landing area and pushed toward the bridge and engine room.
"Point A cleared!"
"Point B encountered light resistance, suppressed!"
"Enemy heavy weapons team spotted! Need support!"
Concise reports from the team members came through the communication channel.
Bikali fired a burst to take out an enemy crawling out of the ventilation duct while issuing orders.
"Team Two, flank left and take out that heavy weapons team. Everyone else, continue advancing toward the Bridge with me! Quick battle, quick decision; we still have to go to the next ship!"
"Received!"
Commander Feng Qi's flagship
Lieutenant General Horn slumped in his command chair, his face ashen.
On the tactical screen, the light dots representing his fleet were decreasing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Meanwhile, the light dots representing Xiuluosheng, though also suffering damage, still maintained a fierce offensive and an intact command system.
The staff officer reported with a trembling voice.
"General... the signal for Cruiser '...' has vanished... '...' is heavily damaged and contact is lost... the left-wing Frigate group... is almost completely wiped out... we... we have lost over one-third..."
"How... how could they be this strong..."
Horn muttered to himself; he could not understand why, despite having the numerical advantage, they were being defeated so quickly and so miserably.
The opposing Commander's control over the battlefield rhythm, the coordinated combat capability of the opposing fleet, and the individual quality of the opposing soldiers all far exceeded his imagination.
"General! New hyperspace signal detected! Energy signature... unknown!"
Horn suddenly looked up, staring at the edge of the main screen.
Another fleet appeared on the screen, and Horn said in a dry voice.
"Who... who is it this time..."
