Chapter 101
Chapter 101: Am I Human or a Weapon?
McKesser always remembered that there were only two people in the room just now, Luo Sheng and himself, with no third person.
So when did the woman before him appear?
What was even more bizarre was that this woman made no footsteps, cast no shadow under the electric light, and her snow-white skin showed not a trace of color, as if she were a corpse.
Luo Sheng paid no attention to McKesser’s gaze, but instead instructed Bai Moxue:
“This is up to you now. Also, don’t drive him to mental collapse, I still need to interrogate him later.”
“Alright.”
Bai Moxue nodded.
As she approached McKesser, suddenly her black pupils gradually turned blood-red, and an elusive, terrifying aura began to spread. Even her dark hair started to float.
It was so eerie that it defied description.
McKesser stared blankly at all of this.
He only felt his head starting to swell, his heart growing increasingly fragile, and an overwhelming fear of the woman before him. She seemed like a demon straight from hell.
Then, McKesser’s vision turned completely gray.
He saw ox-headed and horse-faced creatures using a huge iron pot the size of a swimming pool to deep-fry humans.
The people being fried didn’t die immediately, but constantly wailed as their crispy skin turned back to normal, only to be fried crisp again by the boiling oil, in continuous pain.
When they struggled to climb out, they were pushed back down by the ox-headed creatures to continue boiling.
The wails were unceasing, like a hell on earth.
The ox-headed and horse-faced creatures stirred the oil pot with giant iron ladles.
Then an ox-headed creature spotted him and slowly walked over, preparing to drag him into the boiling oil pot.
McKesser struggled desperately, “Oh no! You’re devils, let me go!”
No matter how he struggled, he was still thrown into the pot by the ox-headed creature. The boiling oil constantly fried him to a crisp, and when he floated to the surface, he would return to normal, only to be fried again.
Especially when the scalding oil flowed into his stomach through his nostrils and mouth, it felt like his five senses and six viscera were being burned, emitting a fragrant crispy smell.
This inhumane torture was excruciatingly painful and utterly hopeless for him.
Even his bones couldn’t escape, being fried together in the scalding hot oil.
McKesser was like a child about to drown.
After being fried for half an hour, he was terrified and kept shouting, “I’ll talk, I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything… just stop frying me!”
He clearly didn’t want to stay in such a hellish place forever.
It seemed endless. Even though McKesser’s pain nerves had been numbed, he could still feel the pain from being fried in this oil pot.
Fear spread through his body like a virus.
When he opened his eyes again, he found only Luo Sheng standing before him, smiling as he looked at him.
The woman from before had long since disappeared.
McKesser’s sweat had soaked through his entire outfit at some point, his forehead covered in beads of sweat. He was mentally exhausted, his whole body trembling uncontrollably as he begged in fear, “I’ll tell you everything, just ask.”
“If you knew it would come to this, why didn’t you speak earlier?”
Luo Sheng said, then opened the door and called Alice in.
At this moment, everyone outside the door was stunned, especially Anastasia, who looked at Luo Sheng with a strange expression.
They had heard screams from inside earlier, but the screaming lasted less than a minute before the person surrendered and gave in.
When she checked McKesser’s condition, she found that he was actually unharmed!
Apart from sweating a bit more than usual, McKesser seemed to have no other issues. His arms and legs were still intact, showing no signs of having been subjected to severe torture.
She was curious about how Luo Sheng had managed this.
“May I come in?” she asked.
“You can, but you must keep this confidential,” Luo Sheng nodded.
So she and Alice entered together and closed the door, as this concerned Alice’s identity, which was highly sensitive.
Afterwards, the three of them looked at the somewhat dazed Alliance Commander McKesser.
Luo Sheng crossed his arms and leaned against the chair, looking down at him expressionlessly, “Speak. Tell us everything you know.”
McKesser finally hung his head, supporting it with both hands, and began to narrate in detail: “She is a humanoid weapon, transformed by the Alliance long ago to be a ‘nuclear bomb’ that could determine the course of war.
She’s also the prototype for super soldiers.
But 50 years ago, after the Earth-Fire War ended, it seemed these humanoid weapons didn’t achieve the effect the high-level officials wanted.
So they were sealed away by the higher-ups. As for the real reason, it’s unclear.
Until the last two years, when combat mech competitions became increasingly popular in Sky City and other city-states, they were pulled out of storage by the NASDAQ Group and used as mechanical humans to compete with other machines, to earn high returns.
If they failed, they were simply discarded as scrap metal by the group.
As for her details and data, they can only be obtained at the Alliance Army Headquarters in Sky City. I only know this much, after all, no one pays attention to these irrelevant things.”
McKesser finished speaking.
Luo Sheng and Anastasia both turned to look at Alice at the same time.
They saw that after hearing all this, Alice remained in a daze for a long time.
Fragments of memories kept flashing through her mind, scene by scene:
…
“Are you sure you want to become a modified human? You still have a chance to regret it now.”
A doctor in a white uniform wearing a mask, under the surgical spotlight, looked at her lying on the operating table and asked.
…
“Alice, pick up the gun. If you don’t kill them, you’ll be the one who dies!”
A middle-aged man with a rough face kept yelling at her, obviously her instructor.
…
“Alice, ammunition, bring the ammunition quickly! No… damn it, find cover!”
On a spaceship, the enemy had invaded the interior, and the Earth Alliance Army was battling the Mars Federation Army.
An officer was shouting at her hysterically. Finally, a pulse cannon shell flew in, exploding into a huge dark red fireball that engulfed both the officer and her.
…
“The damage is severe. Even if repaired, there won’t be much combat power left. Seal her away.”
In her hazy state, submerged in life-sustaining fluid, she saw a female doctor holding a data form speaking to others.
…
“Come quickly, there are several more modified humans here.”
“Take them out for repair, then put them into the competition. The rich gamblers have bet a lot of money today.”
Two workers wearing NASDAQ uniforms opened the long-sealed warehouse door and moved out the modified humans one by one using exoskeletons.
…
…
“It hurts…”
Alice clutched her head.
As if her CPU was overloading, her forehead began to burn hot, feeling as if lead had been poured into it, unbearably heavy. The intense pain made her body tremble continuously.
Memories gushed out like a fountain, endlessly, but they were all fragmented and incomplete.
Each segment had large portions missing, and even her memories from before being modified were lost.
Finally, she couldn’t bear it and fainted.
“Alice! Are you alright?”
“Wake up!”
Luo Sheng anxiously pressed on her philtrum, and even Anastasia became flustered.
She was then sent to Dr. Jack for treatment.
All sorts of sedatives and painkillers were used.
Dr. Jack then came out and said to Luo Sheng, “Her condition isn’t very good. It’s probably caused by intense stimulation. She should be fine after a few days of rest. It’s best not to stimulate her during this time.”
“Alright, thank you,” Luo Sheng nodded.
Fortunately, Dr. Jack was still here, otherwise he would have panicked for quite a while. If Alice were to perish, this character card would probably shatter along with her.
And it would become his first ever failed card enhancement.
“No need for thanks, you also saved my wife and daughter,” Dr. Jack took out a pipe and put it in his mouth, “Go see her, she needs your company.”
“Mm.”
Luo Sheng nodded, then entered Alice’s original bedroom.
On the old, soft bed, Alice sat quietly, gazing at the crimson sunset outside the window.
On the horizon, a round setting sun was sinking in a sea of blood-red twilight. Above the glow, fragments of light brown, black, and pale yellow soft clouds floated.
The orange-red soft twilight shone into this slightly old but tidy bedroom, emitting a warm glow.
Alice’s face was also illuminated by a touch of the remaining sunset.
Her delicate cheeks gleamed brilliantly, her sapphire-like crystal clear eyes hiding a touch of rosy clouds.
She gazed quietly, quietly at the gradually disappearing sunset outside the window, becoming a beautiful woman lost in a thousand thoughts.
Luo Sheng couldn’t help but think of King You of Zhou, who was willing to light the beacon towers to amuse a beauty, making a fool of his vassals. The melancholic woman before him was worth Luo Sheng doing the same.
Luo Sheng came to the bedside and gently stroked her hair. The smooth, soft white hair like silk flowed through his fingertips.
He asked softly, “Are you alright?”
Alice forced a bewildered smile, “Am I human, or a weapon?”
