Chapter 119

Only the cold glint in his eyes now faintly carried a hint of killing intent.

My lord Luo Xing ordered him to keep climbing the ranks in the Navy; how could he tolerate a disobedient subordinate?

Vergo walked straight toward the door and said:

"Since you are so arrogant, then let us decide superiority by strength. The weak must obey the strong!"

Smoker followed without hesitation.

"Just what I wanted!"

Tashigi stamped her feet in anxiety.

How could it be that on the very first day in the New World, Admiral Smoker was about to fight his superior officer?

But Tashigi knew that once Smoker made a decision, not even nine oxen could pull him back.

She could not persuade him, so she followed as well.

The three arrived at the base's fighting arena.

A crowd of onlooking marines immediately surrounded them.

"Look quickly! Base Commander Vergo is going to spar with Admiral Smoker!"

"Who do you think will win?"

"That goes without saying; it must be Base Commander! Haven't you noticed how terrifying Base Commander's strength has become!"

"That's not certain; I've heard Admiral Smoker's reputation is also very great, and he is a Logia-type Smoker Fruit user!"

"Hehehe, now there will be a good show; perhaps we can even steal a few moves ourselves!"

In the blink of an eye, over a hundred marines gathered around the arena.

Their faces all wore excited expressions; after all, sparring between officers was extremely rare.

On the arena.

Vergo stood with his hands clasped behind his back, expressionless.

Smoker held a cigarette in his mouth and gripped a jitte in his hand.

Under the gaze of the crowd.

Smoker struck first.

"White Smoke Emitter!"

His lower body turned into white smoke; using the thrust of the white smoke, he charged at Vergo at an extremely high speed.

His weapon, the jitte, thrust forward fiercely.

Vergo did not take out his own weapon, the Ghost Bamboo.

He remained standing in place, motionless.

Only when the jitte was about to reach his neck did he extend his right hand and firmly grasp the jitte.

Smoker's expression changed as he looked at Vergo's right hand, which had turned pitch black.

"Armament Haki, indeed. The New World truly has strong men everywhere."

In the first half of the Grand Line, especially in Loguetown where Smoker once garrisoned, very, very few people could use Haki.

But the New World was completely different; Haki was merely the most basic skill for the strong.

Smoker had voluntarily applied to come to the New World because he wanted to become stronger and did not wish to be regarded as a weakling like an ant.

He let out a loud shout, suddenly exerting force, trying to pull the jitte from Vergo's hand.

However, Vergo's right hand was like an iron clamp; no matter how much force Smoker used, it did not budge a single bit.

Smoker grew somewhat impatient and was about to use all his strength.

Suddenly,

Vergo let go.

Smoker, caught off guard, fell backward.

Vergo surged forward and, with a fist covered in Armament Haki, mercilessly smashed hard into Smoker's abdomen.

"Pfft!"

Smoker spat out a mouthful of blood.

His entire body flew backward and crashed heavily onto the ground outside the arena!

From the start of the spar to the determination of victory and defeat, only half a minute passed.

The surrounding marines were stunned.

Then they erupted into excited, enthusiastic cheers.

"Base Commander Vergo!"

"Base Commander Vergo is too strong!"

"Base Commander Vergo is invincible!"

As for the defeated Smoker, no one paid attention; after all, Smoker had only arrived at G5 Branch on the first day.

Only Tashigi, her face pale with shock, rushed to Smoker's side and helped him up.

Smoker's expression at this moment was extremely ugly.

He never expected that he would be instantly defeated by the opponent!

He didn't even have the slightest chance to resist!

This was actually nothing strange; Vergo's original strength was already superior to Smoker's.

After consuming the Ghost-level Monster Cells from Luo Xing, his strength surged by a huge margin; even facing a Navy Admiral, he could hold his own for a while.

Let alone a mere Smoker who had barely learned Haki?

Vergo looked down coldly at the barely crawling Smoker and said icily:

"If you disobey my orders again next time, you won't just suffer a superficial scratch like this."

Having said that,

without even looking at Smoker's angry gaze, he walked straight back to the base command room.

He shut the command room door tightly.

Vergo pulled out the bottom drawer; inside lay a small black Den Den Mushi.

Vergo dialed the number; the coldness, arrogance, and authority he had just shown Smoker instantly transformed into cautious flattery and worshipful awe.

Drrr~

The call connected.

Vergo took a deep breath and spoke in the most respectful tone:

"Hello, is this my lord Luo Xing? Your subordinate Vergo has something important to report to you!"

Carrot, transformed into her Moon-Sage state, possessed unparalleled bodily flexibility and a myriad of poses.

Among Luo Xing's women, she was undoubtedly ranked first.

Even Little Z, who had eaten the Slip-Slip Fruit, could not compare to Carrot.

Luo Xing asked Carrot to wash off the scent on her body, intending to go visit his wife, Yamato, who was currently traveling throughout Wano Country distributing Super Seeds and Multi-Skill Cybertronians to the common people.

Just as he was about to leave, the black Den Den Mushi rang.

Luo Xing's eyes flashed; this Den Den Mushi was his specially encrypted line for communicating with Vergo.

Unless it was an urgent matter to report, Vergo generally would not dare to make this call lightly.

Luo Xing answered the call.

Vergo's respectful voice immediately came from the other end:

"My lord Luo Xing, your subordinate Vergo has something important to report to you!"

"Speak." Luo Xing was concise.

Vergo's voice said, "Former Navy Admiral Black Arm Zephyr has defected from the Navy Headquarters!"

Vergo's call could naturally not be about Smoker.

Smoker was merely a nobody; Vergo could handle him easily himself, and he was not worthy of disturbing my lord Luo Xing.

What Vergo reported was a super major event within the Navy recently.

Namely, former Admiral Black Arm Zephyr betrayed the Navy and also stole the Explosive Rock, which is said to possess power comparable to an Ancient Weapon!

Even Luo Xing was briefly startled upon hearing this news.

Luo Xing remembered that Black Arm Zephyr's betrayal should have occurred after the Marineford War.

Now, the Marineford War has not even broken out; how has Zephyr already left the Navy ahead of schedule?
