Chapter 30: Chapter Thirty Mikasa
In the following days, Banrenma and Nengdai, whenever they were free, would go to the staff area's training ground to practice their control over ship equipment, while Qin Ge completely immersed himself in the library. He often went in the morning and returned home at night, madly absorbing related knowledge to increase his knowledge reserves.
Today was the same; seeing that Yixian was about to close the cafeteria door, Qin Ge only then walked to the cafeteria.
"Why are you so late today?" Yixian smiled and greeted as soon as she saw Qin Ge.
"I ran into an assignment, and while looking up materials I lost track of time; by the time I came to, it was now. Fortunately Ling Jie left the door open for me, otherwise I couldn't get out…" Qin Ge said somewhat embarrassedly.
Ling Jie, the library manager and also one of the few human staff members of the Azure Lane Commander Academy, had become familiar with Qin Ge because he came to the library every day these past few days.
"Hehe, that's true; although studying is necessary, you should still balance work and rest." Yixian smiled, "What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you right now."
"Um, just make something simple, or just give me whatever leftovers you have; it's so late, sorry to trouble you." Qin Ge rubbed his head and said.
"What are you talking about? I'm in charge of the cafeteria just so you can eat better. Come in first, sit at the table, and I'll prepare something for you in a moment." Yixian smiled, opened the door, and said to Qin Ge.
"Mm, thank you, Senior Yixian." Qin Ge smiled in response and followed Yixian into the cafeteria.
While Yixian went to prepare his food, Qin Ge placed the books he had brought back from the library on the table and began reading. However, after a few minutes, a voice broke the somewhat quiet environment.
"Hehe, really lucky; I thought the cafeteria was closed, but I didn't expect it to still be open."
Hearing that unfamiliar voice, Qin Ge turned his head toward the doorway and saw only a woman with short black hair, wearing a military cap, with two horns, dressed in a Sakura Empire Navy admiral's uniform, holding a leather bag and pulling a suitcase as she walked into the cafeteria.
"Eh, why is there a commander here at this time?" The woman in military uniform looked somewhat surprised at Qin Ge sitting at the table, but quickly reacted, "Hello, I am the Battleship Course Instructor of the Azure Lane Commander Academy; my name is Mikasa. Nice to meet you, please guide me."
Mikasa, hearing that familiar name, Qin Ge reacted quickly. Mikasa is the fourth ship of the Shikishima-class battleship of the old Imperial Japanese Navy; she served as the flagship of the United Fleet during the Russo-Japanese War, and was also the fate ship of the old Imperial Japanese Navy. Later she was rebuilt and placed in Yokosuka City Mikasa Park, preserved as a memorial ship.
Although there was a deep bloody feud between the nation Qin Ge belonged to in his previous world and that country, after coming to this world and learning about these warship girls, Qin Ge no longer feels unnatural toward the Sakura Empire warship girls appearing in this world, because they, like warship girls of other factions, are fighting bravely to protect humanity.
"Hello, Instructor Mikasa, I am Qin Ge, a freshman this year at the Azure Lane Commander Academy, and also, at the Dean's invitation, I work as an assistant teacher for the Strategic and Tactical Theory course at the school. I'm very pleased to meet you." Qin Ge stood up and spoke to Mikasa without humility or arrogance.
"Oh, I know you. Just now, when I returned to the academy, I reported to the Prince of Wales, who introduced you to me, saying you are a rare talent in strategic and tactical theory and also a very practical and earnest commander." Upon hearing Qin Ge's introduction, Mikasa immediately smiled and said.
"Um, the Dean overpraised me; in fact, I am also a newly joined commander, and I am currently studying everything about war earnestly, hoping that my existence can bring some effect to Azure Lane's fight against the Sirens." Qin Ge smiled and said.
"Hehe, good, not humble nor arrogant, unyielding and unbending, you're a promising seedling; if you have any battlefield questions later, feel free to ask me anytime, and I'll give you a detailed answer." Mikasa smiled and praised.
"Thank you very much, Instructor Mikasa, but I don't think now is the time to talk about this; looking at Instructor Mikasa's appearance, you must have just returned to the academy from outside, right?" Qin Ge pointed at Mikasa's luggage and said.
"You're right. Earlier, during the break, I went to tour the Sakura Empire, and only arrived at Shenhua City in the evening. After returning, I rushed to report to the Prince of Wales, but I ended up being a bit late. I came to the cafeteria with a tentative attitude, not expecting Yixian to still have the door open, and you to be here as well—it's really fortunate." Mikasa smiled and said.
"Then, Instructor Mikasa, please put your luggage here for now; I'll go call Senior Yixian for you—she just went in not long ago." Qin Ge smiled and said to Mikasa.
"Sure, thanks." Mikasa had no qualms and accepted Qin Ge's suggestion.
Qin Ge nodded, was about to go to the operating table to call Yixian, when Yixian poked her body out from the glass of the operating room.
"Hehe, no need to call me; I heard your two lively voices clearly inside. Senior Mikasa, welcome back to the academy—still the same old routine?" Yixian smiled and said to Mikasa.
"Yes, just trouble Yixian then." Mikasa waved her hand and said.
"It's fine; you wait there seated for a moment; that'll take a little longer." Yixian smiled.
"Okay." After finishing greetings, Mikasa placed her luggage beside the table, sat directly next to Qin Ge, and then glanced at the book Qin Ge had just been looking through.
"Hmm, 'Warship Girl Manual Detailed Explanation'—hehe, are you preparing for a big build?" Mikasa smiled and asked.
Qin Ge shook his head: "I've already done a big build before, so I won't do another one in the short term. I'm looking at this to understand all factions, the warship girls that have appeared so far, their respective specialties and personality traits, to provide reliable reference for future strategic and tactical design."
"Oh, interesting; few people think to consider warship girls' personalities when devising tactics—they usually only consider their specialties. Qin Ge, explain your understanding." Mikasa's interest was immediately piqued, and she smiled and said to Qin Ge.
"I think warship girls are like people; they have their own thoughts and feelings of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, so some of their emotions and personalities get amplified in combat operations. The consequences of that amplified emotion also play a crucial role in the direction of war." Qin Ge explained to Mikasa.
"Mm, go on……" Mikasa's eyes lit up at once.
