Chapter 1139: Professor (19)
Shiler, who was sitting on the sofa, was stunned. He saw a freak wearing a black skull mask rush in, holding a pistol in both hands, the muzzle of which was aimed at Gordon, who was sitting on the side sofa.
Seeing this familiar mask, Shiler recalled that this wasn't the famous DC villain Black Mask?
The reason it was called a famous villain, rather than a big-name one, was because Black Mask's popularity couldn't compare to the most famous Four Heavenly Kings—Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Two-Face. He wasn't entirely an intelligence-route villain, and his persona overlapped somewhat with another villain.
"Roman." Shiler called out his name because, even if he didn't know that in the comics, Black Mask was actually Roman Sionis, the voice of the person who rushed in also indicated that he was actually the young man who came to Shiler for a recommendation letter earlier but was actually the culprit of the hospital murder case.
Black Mask seemed not to have expected Shiler to be here at all. His hand holding the gun hesitated, not knowing who to aim the muzzle at. But Gordon's complexion turned dark. He stared at Black Mask with cold eyes and said:
"Mr. Sionis, put away your little tricks. What do you intend to do? Knock me down with a small pistol?"
Gordon slowly stood up from the sofa. He didn't reach for the gun at his waist, but stood calmly in place, looking into Roman's eyes under the mask and saying, "Do you really know what you are doing? You will destroy everything the Sionis family has now!"
"Do you really think I care?!" Black Mask raised his tone and said, "That old bastard is as damn as you all!"
"Another tragedy of family education." Shiler shook his head. He smoked a puff of smoke and said, "Using violent means to educate children only results in violence. People who only submit to authority will want to use violence to establish authority all their lives."
"Shut up!
!" Black Mask shouted. He turned his head to stare at Shiler, his eyes full of vigilance. He said, "You really are a difficult guy! It seems that when you were at Arkham Asylum, you saw that I was deliberately arrested, which is why you waited here..."
"I didn't." Shiler denied it very seriously, and then said, "However, I was indeed amazed at the time, how could a serial killer's psychological quality be so poor? If you were pretending, then everything would be explained."
The vigilance in Black Mask's eyes didn't disappear. Clearly, he didn't believe Shiler's words at all. He only felt that Shiler's level of playing dumb was first-class, with no trace of acting.
In fact, this wasn't because his imagination was too rich. The key problem had already been mentioned before: in Cat Getan, if a person had neither a strong physique, a fierce temperament, nor sufficient firepower, then how exactly did he survive in such a dangerous environment?
A scholar with a tall and thin figure, an elegant temperament, and a body full of scholarly air could live like a fish in water in a chaotic city like Cat Getan. If he said he knew nothing and could see nothing, even a fool wouldn't believe it.
Black Mask certainly wouldn't feel that he was a fool, so he didn't believe a word Shiler said.
And he pretended to be arrested, wanting to kidnap Commissioner Gordon, and Shiler happened to appear in Gordon's reception room. Where in this world could such a coincidence come from?
Thus, Black Mask raised his vigilance to twelve points in his heart. He didn't shift the muzzle, still pointing the gun at Gordon, but stared dead at Shiler beside him, saying, "Since you arrived here in advance, then I suppose you should have a way to deal with me, right?"
"I certainly have." Shiler nodded. Just as Black Mask put all his attention on Shiler, Shiler turned his head to look at Gordon and said:
"It seems he was arrested by you just to let you bring him into the interior of the police station, bypassing the tight firepower protection outside. But I think you should be able to beat him. If not, I can help you call Batman."
Gordon opened his mouth. He re-examined Black Mask, snorted coldly, and said, "What kind of criminal haven't I seen? Solving this kid doesn't need to trouble Batman."
After speaking, he pulled out the service pistol at his waist, and the two stared at each other like cowboys in a western duel, ready to attack at any time. But at this moment, Shiler suddenly stood up, clapped his hands, attracted the attention of both, and then said:
"Two, I feel that it's not necessarily the case that we must use such violent means to solve the problem, right? We can sit down and talk properly."
Shiler walked slowly between the two. Gordon glanced at his expression, cleared his throat, and said, "I have nothing to talk about with such an unrepentant criminal! Even if he is the young master of the Sionis family, he must pay the price for his crimes!"
Seeing his firm expression, Shiler shook his head helplessly. He turned his head to look at Black Mask again, and spoke in a gentle tone: "Roman, I believe you are not as evil as you appear. If there is anything that makes you have to do this, you can find someone to confide in. Of course, as a psychologist, I am very willing to chat with you..."
"Hypocritical." Black Mask evaluated. He looked at Shiler, who walked to his side, with slanted eyes, and said in a cold tone, "You only care about that Bruce Wei En because he is rich enough. What kind of psychology professor is nothing more than a follower behind the world's richest man! Like those people who chase fame and fortune, hoping that Bruce Wei En can reward you with some benefits."
Shiler still paced slowly. He first walked to Black Mask's side, then walked slowly behind him, and said, "You seem to care about Bruce very much. Are you two not friends?"
"Friends?" Black Mask snorted coldly and said, "He is simply the most disgusting kind of person. It is impossible for me to ever..."
"Bang!"
Black Mask, whose words were only half-spoken, was knocked to the ground directly. And behind him, Shiler, holding half a vase, shook his head and said, "You don't really think I didn't see that you were stalling for time, right?"
Black Mask, lying on the ground, was covered in blood. Vase fragments were scattered around him. Just as he was about to get up, he was stepped on the back by Shiler. Thus, he could only lie on the ground, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth, saying, "It's already too late. I will make Batman regret it for the rest of his life!"
"You have an accomplice, right?" Shiler was asking a question, but it was actually a tone of certainty. He said, "Your common target is also not me, but Bruce Wei En, that is, Batman."
"You manufactured a murder case in the hospital, and used the fact that I and Dr. Richard are both doctors and serial killers to mislead Batman, making him think that the theme of your serial murder cases is doctors who are serial killers."
"Immediately after, your accomplice started calling me, making me also think that your target is me and has nothing to do with Batman, so that both I and Batman would relax our vigilance."
"And afterward, you yourself came before me, performing a play of being angry from shame because of being ignored, and finally exposing the process of committing the crime."
"You deliberately let the police take you away, entering the Cat Getan Police Department, escaping from the detention room from the inside, pretending to want to kidnap Gordon, to hold back Gordon and the Cat Getan Police Department's police force, so that your accomplice can do something to Batman."
Shiler shook his head gently and said, "You always like to engage in these plans with seven twists and eight turns, but I still like to be direct."
Gordon just walked up and wanted to do something, but Shiler carried the upper half of the vase and hit Black Mask's back of the head again. After a "bang", Black Mask stopped moving completely.
Gordon swallowed, silently withdrew the foot he had stepped out, and Shiler looked at him and said, "... Give me the gun."
Gordon was slightly stunned. He looked at Shiler and said, "Don't you not use guns?"
But he still unbuckled the service pistol at his waist and said, "Sorry, I don't have time to find you a new gun now, and the gun that just came out of the factory is not easy to use. I think my gun is still not bad."
What made Gordon feel somewhat surprised was that Shiler directly took the gun, neither wearing gloves nor spraying a lot of disinfectant, but directly put it into the pocket of his trench coat.
Until Shiler waved at Gordon and walked toward the outside of the Cat Getan Police Department, Gordon walked to the door, leaned against the door frame, looked at his departing back, and shook his head very confusedly.
Walking to his car, Shiler turned the car key and drove the car out of the police station's parking lot. His goal was very clear, but it wasn't Wei En Manor or the Batcave.
Shiler controlled the car to turn and drove onto a ramp on the southeast side of the central turntable. This was the direction of Dick's school.
It was very clear that if Black Mask and his gang wanted to deal with Batman himself, there was actually no need to engage in so many twists and turns. They could just go directly to Batman.
The reason they wanted to paralyze Batman and Shiler was because they definitely didn't intend to engage in frontal combat. This group of serial killers didn't care about any dueling spirit. They only wanted to deal critical hits to the other party, both physically and mentally.
There was no doubt that harming someone very important to Batman would definitely cause a great blow to Batman. But there were not many people who were relatively close to Batman. Catwoman, Gordon, and the children staying in Wei En Manor were all their targets.
It was just that their first round of plans was to bloom on both sides at Gordon's police station and Dick's school, letting Batman be unable to look after both ends, saving one but not the other.
And the reason Shiler thought their other target was Dick rather than Catwoman was precisely because, judging from their choice of Gordon, they didn't seem to have much confidence in their own abilities. Otherwise, they should have directly chosen Shiler as the target. After all, Shiler was also Batman's teacher.
But since they chose Gordon, who was an ordinary person, their other target was also very likely to be Dick, who was an ordinary person, rather than Catwoman, who had special skills.
Even if they really chose Catwoman, Catwoman should be able to persist for a long time. In comparison, Dick was much more fragile. So, Shiler decided to go see Dick first.
Facts proved that Shiler's judgment was correct. When he arrived at Dick's school, most of the students in the school had already left, and the lights in all classrooms were off. But only one window was lit, and there were two figures confronting each other in front of the window.
Shiler pushed open the classroom door and saw the scene in the classroom. He was stunned.
In the center of the classroom, Dick was tied to a chair, but he didn't seem to be injured, just unable to move or speak.
And in front and behind the classroom stood two completely identical Batmans, with the same figure, appearance, attire, and expression on their faces.
Shiler was stunned in place, a bit dazed.
What is this??? The True and False Monkey King??? Is the Sino-US co-production finally going to be released???
