Chapter 1398: The Old Days Return (14)
"Alright, kids, I'm going to the cafeteria to eat. If you have any more questions, send them directly to my email. Don't forget to mark your names, and I will reply to you within a week." Schiller tidied up the books and materials on the table and said.
The intern agents surrounding him to ask questions all looked somewhat regretful. A blonde, baby-faced girl rested her elbows on the podium, propping her face with her hands, and said, "Doctor, are you going to abandon us for Stark? Don't let those gossip tabloids succeed."
"Go ahead, Katherine, you can take that jar of frosted cookies I put under the podium, as long as you aren't afraid of wasting the whole weekend at the dentist's office," Schiller said with a smile.
Katherine puffed up her cheeks angrily and said, "Don't try to bribe me. Omar said you told him you would bring him Captain America shield cookies next week. I'm insanely jealous; those are limited editions."
"Then you should ask the rich guy next to me. No one is more familiar with Captain America than him," Schiller shrugged and said.
"Forget it," Katherine curled her lips and said disdainfully. At this time, a short girl with brown hair and freckles on her face squeezed over, smiling and saying, "You have to go, Katherine. I still want to know if the Captain actually stayed overnight at his place."
"Maroney, can you stop acting like a reporter for a gossip tabloid?" Katherine said somewhat dissatisfied. "I'm not your drone for spying on the enemy."
"Hey! Hey! Girls, do you have anything to say about Captain America staying overnight at my place?" Stark clapped his hands, extended a finger, shook it in mid-air, and said, "His taste in clothes is old-fashioned. Can you imagine? Dark brown plaid sweater, and a turtleneck at that."
The short girl called Maroney immediately squeezed to Stark's side with glowing eyes, chasing after Schiller and Stark who were walking out, asking like a string of pearls, "You saw him wearing clothes? Was it after the fact or the next morning? Did you... compare? I mean, you know, 'you more, I less'."
Schiller tilted his head to one side helplessly, looking at Maroney from above his glasses, and said, "Miss, if you put this kind of energy into writing analysis reports, you could report to Nick's special operations team next year."
"I'm just preparing to write a paper on the interpersonal interactions of superheroes. I want to know if the behavior and social interactions of these humans with superpowers are different from ordinary people. What do you think of this topic selection? Doctor?"
"Not bad, but I advise you not to write about Captain America," Schiller blinked and said, "He doesn't understand some secret codes like 'how much'."
"Oh, we're here," Maroney screamed and said, "I won't bother you guys anymore. I still have to find Katherine and ask her about witnessing Spider-Man saving people earlier. She's also a good research subject. Bye."
The short girl disappeared in a flash. Schiller and Stark sat down facing each other by the window and began to order food. The waiter robot used for ordering recorded their choices. Not long after, a sumptuous meal was served on the table.
Schiller ordered a portion of Provençal vegetable soup, and the main course was a portion of meat sauce pasta. Stark had Lyonnaise salad with sausage, half a portion of onion pie, and lemon juice mussels.
"The incomparably generous Director Nick still remembers to hire a French chef for this group of little guys, but he made a wrong decision, which was to abandon the S. H. I. E. L. D. cafeteria, which led to Natasha and Barton coming over to freeload every day," Schiller scooped a bit of vegetable soup into his mouth with a spoon and said.
"If Nick moved the S. H. I. E. L. D. cafeteria to France, then the French would cut off his head," Stark cut the onion pie with a knife and fork, raised one eyebrow playfully, and said.
"What are you here for?"
"Can't I just want to have lunch with you?"
"Do you want me to count this into your mental health maintenance budget?" Schiller cut a piece of pasta, chewed while saying, "We still have many accounts to settle, such as you telling Nick that my mental state is unhealthy and that I cannot have more than ten appointments a week, which led to me having to come here to teach to pass the time."
Stark laughed and said, "Are you complaining?"
"You know very well that those gentlemen and ladies who book my treatment don't have any psychological problems other than those based on showing off wealth and social status, but you are still trying to influence my normal practice."
"And I am thanking Nick for giving me another profession. Listening to the troubles of these trainees feels great."
"Self-deception, and..." Stark held the mussel shell with the tip of his knife, peeled the meat off with a fork, sent it into his mouth, and said, "The troubles of the intern agents' puberty are simply not enough to make up for the emptiness of your inability to practice. You must have done something else, which led to you being energetic and radiant now. I know this state too well."
Schiller's hand holding the knife and fork paused slightly. He took a sip of red wine and then said, "No, you don't know me. In fact, there is no one who doesn't like getting a large mental health management fee without working, right?"
Stark let out a sneer, full of disdain and sarcasm. He inserted a piece of sausage into his mouth and said, "Do you know? The wisdom that mental patients can erupt in resisting nurses and hiding medicine far exceeds their normal level. The most professional lie detection teams can't detect the lies they tell."
"Do you think I'm lying?"
"Aren't you?"
Stark's tone was very sharp, which led Batman to have to speak in his inner heart: "Do you really want to stimulate him like this?"
But Schiller wasn't angry at all. He just shrugged and said, "If you think so, then go find the medicine I hid. I bet you can't find it, because there isn't any at all."
Stark pursed his lips, raised the corners of his mouth, and said, "No, you are hinting that I should wander around the universe like a headless fly, but I don't intend to do that."
"Then what do you intend to do?"
"Let you pay for your mental health management fee income with a little substantial work, which can lower Pepper and Obadiah's blood pressure and also prove my correctness."
About half an hour later, Schiller sat on the sofa in Hell's Kitchen, looked at Stark opposite, and said, "So you intend to watch me 24 hours a day?"
"Simple, but effective."
Schiller shook his head, as if very helpless, and walked to the kitchen to start checking the ingredients in the refrigerator. Batman said in Stark's brain: "I don't think stimulating him like this is a good idea. Let's say first, in an encounter, I might not be able to beat him, and I think you can't either."
"Why do you always think we will fight?" Stark asked very puzzled. "What exactly did you and the Schiller you know experience? Do you often fight?"
"Worse than that." Batman pondered as if hesitating, but he still said, "When I entered his tower of thought, I once saw another me in another universe. I caught a glimpse of his memory."
"In that universe, Schiller was his teacher, and could also be called his father, but..."
Batman's voice disappeared. Stark's curiosity was aroused, and he asked: "But what? What happened to the two of them?"
"It's hard to say." Batman gave an evaluation and said, "But I advise you better not piss him off. We share a body now, and I don't think we should waste time in the hospital."
Stark sneered again and said, "Regardless of what the Schiller you know is like, I know my friend very well, and he won't get angry."
"Even if you invade his private territory in a posture that can be called surveillance and stay here without leaving?"
"Your wording is too vicious," Stark said incredulously. "Can't it be visiting here in a posture of companionship?"
Batman was silent for a while and said, "But your purpose is surveillance, and he understands that too."
"My purpose is companionship, and of course he understands," Stark raised his voice and said. "He will accept the feelings of any of us, and he won't refuse our companionship. This is a rare good time, it hasn't happened for a long time."
"Wait and see."
"I guess you can only persist here until five o'clock in the evening at most," Schiller put a glass of water on the table in front of Stark and said, "Those genius inspirations in your brain urge you to return to the lab to create some great civilization achievements for humanity, instead of sitting here watching soap operas."
Stark picked up the water glass, patted the sofa next to him, and said, "Yes, let's watch it together. When do you think the heroine will discover her husband is cheating?"
"Her husband isn't cheating. Her husband has cancer, so he's acting like he's cheating, wanting the heroine to take the initiative to divorce him."
"Oh god, even more melodramatic than I thought."
Time passed quickly. At about 4:30, the sound of a car reversing into the garage sounded next to the house. Stark raised his hand to look at his watch, stood up, and said, "Very good, what you said is right. Now the genius Stark is going to make some contributions to human civilization. You can finish watching this show with Steve. I guess he will definitely cry his eyes out."
Schiller sat on the sofa, looked up at him. Not long after, a chill surged from the door, and Steve rushed in hurriedly, pointed his thumb outside the door, and said: "Quick, Tony, handle those traffic police behind me. I didn't turn on the dashcam."
Stark walked out with the car keys. Steve directly picked up the water pot, gulped down a belly full of water, then sat down on the sofa, looked at Schiller with blue eyes, and asked: "Are you feeling better? Dr. Schiller, how have you been feeling lately?"
Schiller held the remote control to change channels. In the slightly dim room, the colorful light of the TV program shone on his eyes. Steve stood up again, pulled his sweater down hard, and then went to turn on the light.
"Hey, I want to watch that, I've been learning to cook lately," Steve pointed at the TV and said. He sat down again, staring at the cooking show on the TV without blinking.
With a "bang," the window behind him was opened. Stark threw the car keys on the windowsill and said: "Done, Steve. Make sure he doesn't leave your sight tonight, including when you are wearing that old brown plaid sweater. Peter will definitely come over tomorrow morning."
Steve gave him an OK gesture without turning his head, and then focused on the TV program.
"Your departure is correct," Batman evaluated in Stark's brain: "If you continue to argue with him about whether the heroine's husband is mentally cheating, he will definitely beat you up."
"He won't, because her husband is mentally cheating."
"No basis. You are not suitable for reasoning."
"It's you who haven't mastered the art."
"I want to beat you up now."
"But you have no way."
Batman fell silent, as if thinking about the possibility of beating Stark up in his brain.
But perhaps thinking that this might also hurt himself, he gave up this plan, and then began to secretly look forward to the day Schiller beat him up. He firmly believed there would definitely be such a day. ===== CHAPTER 1399 =====
