Chapter 1452: Birds Returning (Part 13)

~11 min read 2,023 words

"Who is Harley Quinn?"

A slightly childish female voice came from the darkness. Harley walked out from the shadows of the room. She was wearing surgical scrubs, a cap and a transparent mask on her head, and the gloves on her hands were stretched very flat, without a single wrinkle. Except for her face, everything else was wrapped tightly.

She first took off her gloves, then took off the transparent mask, took off the cap, shook her hair, and looked at Red Hood with some surprise, saying: "Jason, why has your voice become so hoarse? Have you reached puberty?"

"And who is Harley Quinn? I am Harley Quinzel. Where did you two weirdos come from? Wandering around in the corridor in the middle of the night without sleeping. If I hadn't pulled you in, you would be dead, you know?"

Red Robin and Red Hood looked at each other. Red Hood looked left and right and lowered his voice: "She might not be Harley Quinn yet..."

"Then why is she in Arkham Asylum?"

"Maybe she is mentally abnormal herself, and her parents sent her here."

Red Robin took a deep breath, tried hard to stand up from the ground, looked at Harley and said: "We are the Bat family from another universe... Forget it, you probably don't know what the Bat family is. It's like this, we accidentally entered here and were injured by that group of lunatics. Can you find us a first-aid kit?"

Looking at Harley, who was clearly still a little girl in front of him, Red Hood couldn't lose his temper either. He could only endure the irritability in his heart and said dully: "Also, you have to tell us where the exit is, we can take you away from here together."

"Why would I want to leave here?" Harley turned around and went back to rummage in the cabinet behind her. Red Robin and Red Hood both felt a bit nervous.

The first law of Gotham is that you can't trust anyone. A seemingly harmless little girl might pull out a gun and shoot you in the next second. So seeing Harley pull something out of the cabinet, both of them tensed their muscles, ready to run away at any time.

Fortunately, by the dim light, they saw it was a first-aid kit, containing disinfectant and bandages.

Harley walked over, put down the first-aid kit, and turned back. Red Hood reached out to take the first-aid kit on the ground, but the wound on his arm made him gasp.

"Come over and help me change my posture. My arm isn't injured, I can help you bandage first." Red Robin panted slightly. He was paralyzed on the ground now, not daring to move his legs at all, but he still tried hard to straighten his upper body to get the equipment in the first-aid kit.

"Don't move!" Harley, who was rummaging for things in the cabinet, looked back and said impatiently: "You'll make the wound bigger, it'll be more troublesome to sew up later. Don't move, wait for me to come over and treat you."

The two looked at each other. They didn't intend to listen to Harley's nonsense, but their current state was indeed difficult to take care of themselves. When Harley walked back, they saw that she had put on gloves again, and was holding a sharp scalpel in her hand.

Seeing Harley walking towards Red Robin with a knife, Red Hood immediately became nervous. He lowered his voice as if roaring: "What are you doing?"

"Taking out the bullet." Harley stood by Red Robin's leg, looking at Red Hood up and down with some surprise and said: "You don't want me to dig the bullet out with my hands, do you? Are you two enemies?"

"But, but..." Red Hood stared at Harley with a distrustful gaze. He wasn't worried about Harley stabbing his partner now, mainly because such a small little girl holding a knife and telling you she could take out a bullet, no one would believe it immediately.

Harley sighed helplessly, then she bypassed Red Robin, walked to the door, stretched out her hand and pressed the switch by the door, and looked back at the two: "I'm going to turn on the lights. No matter what you see later, don't scream, okay?"

The two hadn't reacted to what Harley meant, the light in the room was turned on with a "pop", and then they saw a male corpse placed on the operating table in the center of the room.

The corpse's thighs had disappeared from the root, leaving only the upper body. But because the whole corpse had been frozen, it hadn't completely thawed yet, so there was no strange smell. This was also the reason why they didn't find that they were sharing a room with a corpse in the darkness.

"The thawing room downstairs is full, I can only move it up and let it thaw at room temperature. I was waiting, and then heard movement in the corridor, I was afraid it was Mrs. Miller, so I turned off the lights, but I didn't expect it to be you two."

"What the hell?!" Red Hood raised his voice in shock. His breathing frequency became faster, so he felt the hood was hindering his breathing. Red Hood pulled off his hood, revealing his surprised face.

"My god, you really are Jason?!" Harley let out an exclamation, then circled around him, looking at his face with some confusion and said: "You aren't the future Jason, are you? How did you end up like this?"

"I already said I came from another universe." Red Hood said quite irritably. He pointed to the corpse on the operating table and asked: "What's going on with that, did you kill him?"

"I didn't kill him. This is a cadaver teacher, I'm making up my anatomy homework."

Harley walked back to Red Robin's leg and squatted down, picked up the scalpel. When the sharp blade touched Red Robin's skin, he couldn't help but shout: "Hey, hey, wait! Wait..."

"Wait for what, stay put!" Harley was very impatient, pressed Red Robin's leg with one hand and cut with the other, taking out the bullet in three or two strokes. She threw the bullet into the toolbox next to her and said: "Which universe did you come from? The softie universe?"

Red Robin's cry of pain had just reached his throat, and before he could shout, the bullet had already left his body. He widened his eyes and looked at Harley, who was bandaging him, and said: "God, how are you so skilled?"

"Because almost every experimental material has to have ten or eight bullets in its body. If you hadn't moved around, the process could have been twice as fast." Harley grabbed the bandage and tightened it, then beckoned to Red Hood and said: "Come over, your wound needs suturing."

Watching Harley find the suture needle and suture thread in the toolbox again, Red Hood swallowed. He looked back at the corpse on the operating table, then looked down at his wound, and still walked over obediently.

Harley's suturing technique was also very good. A wound was sewn straight, the stitches were fine, and the speed was very fast. Even without anesthesia, it didn't hurt for long. By the time she finished sewing, Red Hood even gave an surprised "ah".

"Done?" Red Hood looked at the wound on his arm in surprise, and found that it really didn't bleed anymore. Harley took out the bandage and bandaged it for him again.

That wound wasn't cut deep, just a bit long. By the time everything was handled, Red Hood found that his arm had completely recovered its ability to move, except for a little pain during strenuous exercise and muscle exertion.

"Unbelievable." He commented.

"So what are you two doing here? Do you have homework to make up too?" Harley stood in the center of the room with her arms crossed and looked at them.

"Can you explain to us what is going on first???" Red Hood said. Now there was a corpse without legs placed in front of him, and the other two seemed to be completely unable to see it, which made him break into a cold sweat.

"Didn't I say it? This is a cadaver teacher, I'm waiting for it to thaw." Harley spread her hands and said: "In your softie universe, you haven't even seen a corpse?"

Red Hood was about to speak when he saw Red Robin stand up leaning against the wall. He hurried forward to support him. Red Robin looked at Harley and asked: "Then can you tell us how to leave here? There are murderers everywhere outside the door."

"Of course there are murderers everywhere outside the door. Who told you not to sleep in the middle of the night and make such a big noise?" Harley walked to the door and looked out and said: "They are gone, but they might still be waiting downstairs. I advise you not to go out now."

"As for the method of leaving..." Harley deliberately dragged out a long tone. Red Hood and Red Robin both stared at her. Harley rolled her eyes and said: "I don't do loss-making business. I tell you the clearance method, how do you plan to repay me?"

"We can take you out together, it's dangerous here..."

"That's dangerous for you. I come every night, and I haven't ended up in such a sorry state as you."

The two were silent.

"Then what do you want us to do?"

"I still have three sets of limb slicing left to do. How about this, you help me with my homework, and I'll tell you how to leave here safely, how about it?"

Red Robin immediately looked at Red Hood, then said to Harley: "Don't worry, he is best at doing homework. Where is your workbook?"

"I already said it's anatomy homework. You haven't been to medical school, but you should at least know what anatomy is, right?"

"You aren't going to let us help you process the corpse, are you?!!"

Red Hood immediately bristled, his hair standing up. Although he killed people and had seen corpses, that was limited to brief contact. Looking at the clear bone and muscle texture on the smooth and neat cut surface of the man's corpse thighs that hadn't thawed yet, he felt terrible.

The resistance of human beings to anatomy lies in the fact that they know very clearly and can understand that their own structure is actually consistent with the corpse they see, so they inevitably associate it with the scene of themselves lying on the dissection table, and then feel the pain of the places that are hurt or cut off starting to twitch unconsciously. This is the phantom pain symptom brought about by human associative thinking.

A fresh corpse might not have such a big impact, because it looks like a living person sleeping. But a frozen corpse has a weird uncanny valley effect, lifelike, but stiff and cold, without any human breath.

Red Hood took another step back, wanting to stay away from that corpse, but Harley shook her head and said: "No, the cadaver teacher can't be sliced. There is no such large cutting machine upstairs. Let's go, follow me to the warehouse next door to get materials, and then help me move the machine."

Harley shook her head at Red Hood, signaling him to follow. Red Hood walked forward hesitantly. When passing Red Robin, he only got a "brother, good luck" look from him.

Following Harley to the warehouse, there were no corpses placed on the operating table here, which made Red Hood breathe a sigh of relief. And when Harley turned on the lights in the warehouse, the scene in the warehouse was unobstructed.

There were four huge freezers in the whole room, two desktop and two upright.

The desktop ones were full of frozen human arms, and the upright freezers were full of all kinds of thighs.

Red Hood froze in place. ===== CHAPTER 1453 =====
