Chapter 1474
"Master Kazi, long time no see."
A slightly low, pleasant female voice echoes in the hut. Kazi squints his eyes, his aged face lined with gullies, and he slowly spits out the other party's name: "Blood Queen Mary, what are you doing here looking for me?"
"I'm not here to look for you." The woman called Blood Queen Mary wears a deep red silk tight-fitting dress with rose patterns, her red eyes shining slightly in the dim room.
"Andrew Bennett, my former husband, now a traitor to the blood-kin. I heard he is sleeping in the All-Souls Cemetery, but I didn't feel his aura. Where did you hide him?"
"I haven't heard of any Bennett." Kazi steps back with some vigilance and says, "Mary, do you want to break the contract between the blood-kin and the magicians?"
"The Magic Sect has never agreed to any contract." Mary raises an eyebrow and says, "Tell me where he is, and I'll spare you."
Kazi's expression suddenly turns cold. He grips the dissection knife in his hand tightly, and the power belonging to the Skeleton Monarch flows between his fingers.
"Since I became a Grand Mage, no one has dared to be so rude to me. You group of blood-sucking bugs, get out of my territory!"
Accompanied by a low roar, the wailing of countless ghosts rings out. The corpses and bones on the dissection table fly into mid-air, piecing together a flesh puppet. The puppet raises its huge fist and smashes it toward Mary.
Mary, unhurried, disperses into bats and flies to the crossbeam on the roof. Her cold voice comes from above.
"Kazi, I advise you not to be ungrateful. The Magic Sect has long obtained powerful strength beyond your imagination. We are clearing out traitors according to the ancestor's prophecy. If you block me, you will inevitably pay a hundredfold price for it."
"Arrogant woman, block my pet first."
The puppet stretches out its arms and grabs toward Mary in mid-air, but at this time, several other blood-kin break through the door. Mary says sternly to them, "Catch Kazi! You can freely enjoy the blood of a Grand Mage!"
Bright red light begins to emerge from the eyes of several vampires, and a strange but extremely powerful fluctuation of power radiates from them.
Instantly, the bloody roar is more terrifying than the ghost's call. The puppet made of flesh and blood is torn to pieces in a single encounter.
Blood Queen Mary lands slowly. The shadow spread by her unfolded bat wings covers the entire room, blocking the firelight of the fireplace. Kazi's terrified scream follows.
With a "whoosh," blood mixed with undead power outlines blood-red traces on the window, and then gradually turns into turbid black.
Red Robin withdraws his gaze from the window. He turns his head, and the others in the room look at him. Red Robin clears his throat and says.
"Kazi summoned a huge monster, which should have been pieced together from corpse fragments and bones, but the few people who broke in later also turned into monsters. They tore Kazi's summon into pieces."
"The leading woman scratched Kazi's cheek with her claws, letting his blood splash onto the window. Kazi lost his power almost instantly, was subdued without any resistance, and was taken away."
Constantine doesn't ask how Red Robin saw it. He just stares at the fire in the fireplace, his tone somewhat low, and says, "No, Blood Queen Mary doesn't have such power. She couldn't have defeated a Grand Mage in such a short time."
Bennett, standing by the door, sniffs his nose and says, "But I'm sure it was her. I smelled the scent of her blood."
"What about the few people who came in later?" Red Robin looks at Bennett and asks, "Are they also vampires? Do you know them?"
"Is this important?"
"Of course. If I'm not mistaken, they were still in human form when they came in, but quickly turned into monsters weighing at least three times as much. If this is a special ability of your blood-kin, then pretend I didn't say anything."
"Absolutely not." Bennett says affirmatively, "Turning into a monster is a unique skill of werewolves. Although blood-kin can turn into bats, that is not an attack method, nor could it leave monster footprints."
"If the woman you dealt with before didn't have such powerful strength, then the problem must be with her subordinates."
"The Blood-Red Moon has long been out of the question." Constantine frowns and says, "Then it can only be the Magic Sect of the blood-kin."
Just then, the fragments of the defeated puppet scattered on the ground suddenly gather again under the control of a dark green filthy energy. The Master of the Dark Night, Jim, draws his Night Blade with extreme vigilance, staring at the undead puppet that appeared out of thin air.
"I am the Undead Monarch of the Valley of Decay, Constantine. I have lost contact with my agent. Where did you put him?"
Constantine sees a green phantom attached to the flesh puppet. Ghost fire jumps rhythmically in the puppet's eye sockets, and the Skeleton Monarch's face is vaguely visible.
"Blood Queen Mary took him away."
"Then go find him, Constantine. This is what you owe me."
"I don't owe anyone anything." Constantine says coldly, "I'm sorry about your daughter, but I won't work for any devil again."
"My power with Kazi has been cut off, but his soul cannot be taken away by anything else. Go find him, and I will pay you a reward."
Constantine sighs, turns his head to look at Jim, and says, "I'm afraid we have to agree to him. If Kazi dies at Mary's hands, the magical world and the blood-kin will go to war again."
Jim grips the hand holding the Night Blade tightly. He looks at the Skeleton Monarch and says, "We will do this. We don't want your reward, but after this, you must take Kazi's soul, because he sold the soul of his apprentice Bianca—an innocent young man—to a devil."
"As you wish."
After the Skeleton Monarch's power dissipates, the puppet scatters again. Constantine picks up the lantern on the table again and says, "If the devil Kazi contracted also can't find his location, then perhaps only one person can feel his power."
"Are you talking about 'Deadman'?" Jim spits out a title.
Constantine nods and says, "Boston should be living in seclusion in the valley east of Greenwich now. We have to find him and then use his sensitivity to the power of death to find Kazi."
Bennett and Jim both nod. They are about to turn and walk out, but Constantine turns to look at Red Robin and says, "You have to go with us, because you are the most capable detective I can find."
Red Robin is just about to speak, but Constantine interrupts him and says, "The martial arts you learned from Batman are useless in the magical world. According to my rich experience, the things we are going to deal with next might be completely untouchable. Facing them, you don't even have the most basic ability to protect yourself."
Red Robin wants to speak to refute with some resentment, but Constantine walks over and says to him, "Although I can't use magic now, I can use my experience to help you select the perfect contract target and reach a contract. You will become a good magician."
Red Robin opens his mouth wide. He says instinctively, "But Batman doesn't let us..."
"Batman, Batman, Batman, are you still unweaned?" Constantine deliberately stimulates him.
But Red Robin doesn't fall for it. He snorts coldly and says, "I'm not Red Hood. This trick doesn't work on me. Batman doesn't let us touch magic, and he must have his reasons. Besides, the magicians I've seen are all miserable."
"Whether you try to master a power is your own decision." Constantine picks up the lantern and walks out the door. He takes one last look at Tim and says, "You are not a cursed person like me, and you are not without choice. After stepping into this river, some will become boats going with the current, and some will become stones sinking to the bottom. What you are can only be decided by yourself."
After speaking, he lowers his head with the lantern and walks out of Kazi's gravedigger hut. Red Robin clenches his fists, but after a while, he relaxes them. He picks up his cloak and walks out the door, seeing Constantine standing by the windowsill adding kerosene to the lantern.
"Do you think you are a boat or a stone?" Red Robin asks.
"Magicians are mostly boats sinking to the bottom. When young, they once traveled unimpeded along the wind of the torrent, but one day they were wrecked and sank. And before I was completely destroyed by the ocean current, I was fished up."
Constantine's hand pauses. He presses the handle of the lantern and continues, "Even if repaired as good as new, a boat cannot go ashore and can only sail like this for a lifetime, until one day it is swept into the storm again and destroyed again."
"Then you still want me to learn magic?"
"I already said, this is your own decision. No one can press your head to sign a contract, not even a devil." Constantine sighs, walks to Red Robin with the lantern, and says, "You are different from the other two children, and your most special point is that everyone else wants to be Batman's lamb, only you want to be his savior."
"Because I am most like him." Red Robin walks down two steps, his boots stepping on the moist soil. He looks into Constantine's eyes and says, "I hope that if Batman sinks in a storm one day, I can have the power to fish him up, just like your friend fished you up."
"When I said I would teach you magic, the excitement in your eyes was completely undisguised. Regarding power, you have much greater ambition than your companions." Constantine points out very sharply: "Even greater ambition than Batman."
"Because I want to save him, not just help him, but thoroughly save him."
"Then magic will be a path for you." Constantine turns to look at the muddy path in the All-Souls Cemetery and the gray skyline where dark clouds gather, and says, "Magic might be dangerous, but it is controllable. This is also why I invite you to learn it. Your wisdom allows you to use this power almost perfectly through learning."
"And other things..." Constantine lowers his eyelids and says, "If you maintain this ambition and greed for power, then sooner or later, they will find you like hyenas following the scent of blood. By then, they will seduce you, use you, until they make you completely mad."
"Then what kind of magic do you intend to teach me?"
"Do you know what the essence of magic is?"
"... Debt?"
"Half right. The essence of magic is borrowing debt and not repaying it."
Accompanied by the figures of several people disappearing into the forest at the end of the path in the All-Souls Cemetery, in the shadows of the corner of the gravedigger's hut, a low roar of anger and unwillingness comes from an inconspicuous box.
The moment the light of thunder flashes across the sky, illuminating the dim room, the dim reflection of the black diamond flashes across the gap of the box.
