Chapter 1476

~12 min read 2,308 words

In the valley of Greenwich, Constantine and his party find the dark tomb where Deadman Boston Brand lives in seclusion. Constantine squats at the wooden door of the cellar, grabs the handle, and knocks on the door. Not long after, a pale hand stretches out from the tomb.

Deadman Boston sticks out half his body. When he sees Constantine's face, the door of the tomb closes with a "bang."

"You are even less welcome than I thought." Red Robin evaluates.

"I'm already used to being rejected." Constantine curls his lip, not minding it. He continues to reach out to knock on the door while shouting, "Boston, my old partner, you have to open the door for us, otherwise I'll let Jim smash your place to pieces!"

"Don't listen to him, I wouldn't do that." The Master of the Dark Night, Jim, walks up, squats halfway at the door, and says, "Mr. Deadman, we do have some things we want to ask for your help, but this is completely within your ability."

A few seconds later, the door opens again. Boston stands in the passage and looks up. A pair of eyes emits a faint blue light. He nods and says in a dull voice, "Come in."

Constantine jumps into the underground passage first, followed by the Master of the Dark Night, Jim, and Bennett, who has turned into a bat. Red Robin feels somewhat hesitant. He doesn't think jumping into someone else's tomb is a polite thing, but when he bites the bullet and jumps in, he discovers that there is a different world inside.

Passing through the long and dark underground tomb passage, inside is a modern apartment with complete facilities, and even windows for lighting, but outside the windows, colorful space fragments are drifting.

"This is a space crack." Constantine explains in a low voice to Red Robin behind him, "Most Grand Mages' Mage Towers are in space cracks, because only in this way can they live long enough. Like that idiot Kazi, finding a cemetery in reality to build a house, he would have been beaten to death by creditors who came to the door long ago."

Red Robin nods and records this clue. Deadman Boston invites them to sit on the sofa and pours them each a glass of water.

Red Robin observes this strong man carefully. His skin is pale and cyan, his body muscle lines are smooth, he looks like he has undergone special training, his dark circles are heavy, his eyes are somewhat hollow, and more importantly, he has no body temperature, really like a dead person.

"What are you doing here looking for me?" His manner and expression are very dull, completely without the vitality of a living person, which is creepy.

"Kazi was taken away. It might have been done by the Magic Sect of the blood-kin, or it might have been Blood Queen Mary acting on her own initiative. His contractor, the Skeleton Monarch, also can't contact him, so we hope you can track his aura and find him back."

"Is there any necessity?" Deadman Boston seems uninterested. He sits on the single sofa beside the fireplace and says, "When Kazi was still an apprentice, he once pushed his classmate off a cliff and then hid his corpse to do experiments, and his old, dim-eyed teacher thought he had found a necromancer apprentice with natural talent."

"We all know he is a bad seed." Jim shakes his head and says, "But this significance is different. He has been promoted to a Grand Mage. If he is taken away by vampires and cruelly killed, there will be another bloodbath in the magical world."

"They are coming for me." Bennett speaks, "John saved me again. He dug me out of the All-Souls Cemetery ahead of time, otherwise, it would have been me who was taken away."

"It's not that simple." Boston judges, "If they wanted to force Kazi to tell them your whereabouts, they wouldn't have to take him away."

Everyone frowns. Boston clearly knows more things. He sighs lightly and says, "You might think undead magic is related to death, but on the contrary, the energy of undead magic is a kind of life energy, so it can make bones that have no vitality stand up again."

"This is also the reason why the Undead Monarchs in Hell always live in seclusion and don't deal with demons. They have nothing to do with violence and destruction. What they possess and continue to crave is vitality. The necromancers who have obtained their power are the same."

"Everyone knows that vampires can obtain energy from human blood, but few people know the way they obtain energy. Perhaps even they themselves don't know."

Bennett frowns slightly, discovering that everyone is looking at him. He shakes his head lightly and says, "I became a vampire just by accident, without family inheritance, so I don't understand this aspect of things."

Boston continues, "The power Kazi's contractor gave him is exactly life force. He uses this life force to make the dead revive, and in the eyes of vampires, the life force on Kazi is an extremely precious ingredient."

Constantine squints his eyes slightly, but Red Robin seems to have thought of something and says, "Indeed, the behavior of the woman who took Kazi away was somewhat strange. She cut Kazi's cheek at the end, letting his blood splash onto the window, but doing so, other than leaving more clues for pursuers, had no other use, unless..."

"Unless she wanted to taste it in advance." Bennett continues, "I know Mary. She is not someone who can resist the temptation of power. She tasted Kazi's blood, so she decided to take him away."

"The problem is, who does she want to take him to?"

The room falls silent. Clearly, no one has the answer. Now the clues are insufficient, and no one has the confidence to deduce the truth.

"Then can you help us find him?" Constantine looks at Boston again and asks.

"I will try my best, but I must remind you that if they have become so rampant that they dare to unscrupulously suck the blood of a Grand Mage, it proves that they are no longer afraid of going to war with the magical world."

"At worst, it's just another Blood-Kin War." The Master of the Dark Night, Jim, snorts coldly and says, "How we drove them back to their old home back then, it will be the same this time."

Boston nods and stands up, seemingly wanting to get spellcasting props, but at this time Constantine calls him to stop. He glances at Red Robin and says, "There is one more thing I want to ask for your help, Boston. My apprentice Tim will contract a demon for the first time. I already have a good candidate, but I hope you can watch the magic circle on the side."

Boston frowns hard. He looks back at Constantine and says, "You are firmly not accepting apprentices, why did you suddenly change your nature?"

"You have been hiding here, so you don't know the biggest news in the magical world recently. Constantine washed his hands of it, and a mysterious friend of his paid off all his debts."

Boston's look at Constantine changes. He steps back, seemingly wanting to stay away from Constantine. Constantine sighs long and says, "This time it wasn't me who pitted him. I don't have such great ability, and he is still alive, just unwilling to show his face."

Boston stands in place and struggles with a frown, but finally, he has to admit that Constantine, this liar recognized by Heaven, Hell, and the human world, never tells lies.

"Alright, count yourself lucky, but why do you want to drag this innocent young man into the water again?"

"This is his own choice." Constantine walks to the opposite side of Boston and says, "Don't tell me you didn't see it. His ambition for power makes him destined to walk such a path. Guided by us, he won't cause too much trouble."

Boston turns his gaze to Red Robin's face. After a long time, he nods and says, "You are always good at convincing everyone, John. Come with me, there are all the materials in my basement."

"I'll wait for you here." Jim looks at them, and Bennett says, "Me too."

Thus, Boston, Constantine, and Red Robin come to the basement of Boston's hideout.

In the dim basement, there is only one flickering small light bulb. Traces of complex magic circles remain on the cold ground, and the bottles and jars on the surrounding tables emit strange smells, which are not unpleasant, just making people somewhat dizzy.

Red Robin discovers with surprise that he has no fear, even though in the next few minutes he might have to face the other side of the darkness of this world he had never faced before, but he searches his heart and finds only excitement.

Inside the office of Arkham Asylum, when Bruce holds him, he seems relieved. In the understanding of everyone, including Batman, he is grateful for Batman revealing miracles. Only he himself knows it's not.

He is happy that Batman from another universe really walked on this path of a shepherd, because this proves they are really similar, and the most similar point is that they can never be anyone's little lamb.

Red Robin is directed by Constantine to stand in the center of the magic circle. Constantine walks to him and says, "The contract target I have selected for you is the ancestor of the black demons in Hell, which is the grandmother of Jeru you saw in Arkham Asylum that day, the black goat demon known as 'Litasher the Filthy'."

"She is an extremely ancient demon, and her history can even be traced back to Satan's fall. Some people also say that she was once a lamb in the Garden of Eden and was eroded by dark power and fell into Hell when Lucifer started the War of the Fall."

"Regardless, she is more ancient and wise than the vast majority of demons in Hell, and more stable. I haven't heard of her torturing her believers, but she doesn't have a direct agent either, but I think you can persuade her."

Red Robin takes a deep breath and nods. Constantine and Boston work together to draw the magic circle at his feet. Just when they are about to start the magic circle, Red Robin suddenly reaches out a hand to stop them.

"What's wrong? Are there any other problems?"

"Don't be nervous." By this time, Boston also intends to soothe Red Robin and says, "John and I will guarantee your safety. Even if the demon negotiation doesn't succeed, it won't hurt you."

"Don't worry, Tim, the attitude of demons toward magician apprentices is very good, and many demons are very good at coaxing children. This is a basic skill for them to trick you into signing a contract. Even if the negotiation doesn't succeed, they won't hurt people. Once the reputation of violence spreads, no apprentice will look for them again."

"No, I don't mean this. Your magic circle is drawn wrong." Red Robin says very affirmatively.

Constantine and Boston are both stunned, but by this time Red Robin has walked out of the magic circle, standing in front of the room, pointing to the complex patterns on the ground and saying.

"Look at this rune. This rune should refer to 'female', but its defined range overlaps with this rune representing 'mother of so-and-so' behind it. This one in front can be completely deleted, and then replaced with a rune that emphasizes the type... and here, why are there so many redundancies left here? Completely unnecessary, delete it, replace it all with reinforcement..."

Constantine and Boston look at each other, watching Red Robin pick up materials and modify the magic circle. Boston swallows and says, "Is he really your apprentice?"

"Now he is, but you wouldn't want to know whose apprentice he was before."

Before Boston can ask, Red Robin claps his hands, stands in the center of the modified magic circle again, looks at the two of them, and says, "Alright, start it."

Boston walks up with some hesitation, examines the magic circle that has been modified to the point where he completely doesn't understand it, and says, "I have to remind you, child, perhaps you have natural talent in magic circles, but the magic circle to communicate with a certain demon is as fixed as a phone number. You modified the magic circle into this appearance, and I can't guarantee whether the phone can still get through."

"Forget it, try it. If it doesn't get through, at worst we can modify it back." Constantine also walks up and says.

Thus, Boston kneels halfway on the ground, puts his hand on the start rune of the magic circle, and accompanied by the diffusion of rich death power, the magic circle gradually lights up.

Red Robin feels the scene in front of him being replaced by misty darkness and blood red. In a trance, he hears a female voice whispering in his ear, full of infinite temptation.

So he follows Constantine's instructions and begins to chant the honorable name and pray.

"Great Mother of Black Demons, sinful Black Goat of Hell, your true name echoes in my mind, I pray for your arrival—Litasher-Tash..."

The whispering full of temptation in his ear becomes stronger and stronger, but Red Robin not only feels no fear, but listens carefully, and then hears a trace of doubt in that turbid whisper.

"Who is Litasher?" A slightly hoarse female voice comes.

Red Robin freezes for a moment, but still asks instinctively, "You are not 'Litasher the Filthy'? Then who are you?"

"I am Lilith."
