Chapter 1488: Twilight Event (Part 10)
Azazel eventually brought Constantine back to his palace, and Constantine met Lucifer there.
"I thought you didn't care about Hell at all."
Constantine sat on the ground, his back against the pillar in the center of the palace. Azazel stood beside the throne, and Lucifer stood in the center of the hall.
"If it were just the demon kings starting a war, I wouldn't bother. But don't tell me you haven't noticed that the group of angels is starting to stir again."
Lucifer began to pace in the center of the throne hall, his tone rarely carrying some heaviness.
"About a few days ago, a few uninvited guests visited my new bar in Coast City. They were not ordinary humans, but their disguise almost fooled me."
Constantine, who was leaning on the pillar in a relaxed manner, frowned slightly. Lucifer sighed lightly and said: "Almost no one in the magical world knows that I sold the Los Angeles bar and came to Coast City. For months, only ordinary people have come here to consume."
"When those few people entered the bar, I didn't find any traces of energy on them, so I naturally thought they were just ordinary guests, until the experienced local bartender I hired told me that their expressions and movements were a bit wrong."
"The bartender thought they were thieves, but I discovered they might have come from the Church, the lackeys under that group of angels."
Lucifer stopped, crossed his arms, frowned, and said: "Generally speaking, pastors or bishops of the Church will have very obvious traces of faith power. I can smell that unpleasant odor from kilometers away, but those few people that day had no traces at all."
"It must be Gabriel's handiwork." Azazel snorted coldly, leaning against the side of the throne and said: "That molting chicken is most skilled at such means. This is also the reason why Hell hasn't accepted fallen angels for a long time—Gabriel even lets his subordinates fall to Hell to obtain intelligence."
Lucifer raised his eyebrows and said: "Michael and I both know that Heaven and Hell are both under God's rule, and we are not truly enemies. The magnificent War of the Fall back then was just to declare that I paid a great price for my betrayal. God and Michael both know this, but Gabriel is not."
"For many years, only he has been seriously insisting on fighting Hell, and thinks this is his means to obtain glory in Heaven. He feels that Michael was appreciated by God through the War of the Fall, so he has always wanted to launch a second War of the Fall, to replicate the path of glory Michael once walked."
Speaking of this, Lucifer sighed deeply, seemingly sighing for Gabriel's intelligence. He shook his head lightly and said: "Perhaps only he in Heaven feels that God is completely just, thinking that as long as one does well, one can obtain favor and status."
"But the facts are completely opposite." Azazel walked down the steps of the throne hall and said: "Whoever God likes will be bestowed with status, not whoever has status can get God's favor."
Constantine let out a sneer and said: "Are there few such fools in Heaven? Cain thought that offering good sacrifices would get God's favor, but in fact, it was because God liked Abel that He liked his sacrifice."
"God has never been just." Lucifer lowered his eyelids and continued: "Just like every pair of parents in this world, but Gabriel doesn't understand this point."
"Stirring up the contradictions between Heaven and Hell is Gabriel's means to fight for status for himself. I don't care what Hell will become, but I cannot tolerate this idiot disturbing my life like a fly."
"So you came to me." Constantine sighed, resting one hand on his curled-up knee, and said: "Because the great Majesty Satan holds his status and is unwilling to personally bother with Gabriel, who ranks at the bottom among the archangels, you hope I will go and disgust him."
"Just like you have always done." Lucifer walked to Constantine, reached out to help him up, and said: "You are very good at finding trouble for demons and angels, and this time is no exception, isn't it?"
"First torture me, then let me go, using this as grace, so that I will obediently do things for you..."
Constantine walked to Lucifer, spat a mouthful of smoke at his face, and then said: "Lucifer, have you been away from Hell for too long, leading to not keeping up with the trend of technological innovation in demon deception? Such old-fashioned means are still being used?"
With a 'whoosh', Lucifer spread one of his wings and slapped Constantine to the ground. He looked down at Constantine from above and said: "Get it straight, Schiller threw you here. The demons are just avenging the times you played them before, and I have forgiven you."
"You are wrong." Constantine flipped over and lay flat on the ground, took another puff of smoke, and said: "I deeply repent for my improper behavior in the past and intend to use my own pain to appease the anger of all victims. I don't need you to save me, get lost."
Lucifer took a deep breath. Azazel walked up quickly, looked at Constantine, and said: "Constantine, are you crazy? Do you want to continue staying in Hell and suffer all kinds of torture?"
"You guessed right, that's exactly what I'm thinking."
Lucifer folded his wings again. He walked to Constantine's side, knelt halfway, looked at him, and said: "John, what on earth are you going crazy about? Can't I ask you for help as a friend?"
And Constantine lay on the ground, eyes closed, muttering: "If there were no hope, no one would count on me. Both disgusted and curious, both fearful and obsessed, I always appear at the moment of others' despair, because if they weren't desperate, they would never think of me. This is the curse they gave me..."
Lucifer widened his eyes first, then covered his eyes and said: "It's over, another one gone crazy! I knew that anyone involved with Schiller would end up like this..."
Kneeling halfway in place and silent for a while, Lucifer stood up and turned to Azazel: "Don't count on Constantine. Go find out what Gabriel is doing now."
"Your Majesty, you tacitly allowed us to collectively break our contracts just to lure Gabriel into the trap. But that group of people in the Great Mage Alliance has already intended to renegotiate with us, and my agent hasn't heard a bit of news about Gabriel. Does he really intend to give up the opportunity to control the magical world?"
"Better not be like that." Lucifer and Azazel walked out of the palace together. He said while walking: "That proves he is planning something big, even beyond the human world."
"Could he be invading Hell?"
"He has always wanted to do this, to provoke our anger and force us to launch a second war. Can't let him succeed. Find his location first. If there is any news, let the agent come to my bar to find me."
The noon in Plymouth was still a bit gloomy. The clouds were pressed very low, as if they could squeeze out water at any time. The rain clouds that had accumulated for a long time finally couldn't bear the burden. When the bean-sized raindrops fell, the pedestrians on the street hurriedly wrapped their coats tightly and hurried toward their destinations.
Schiller led Red Hood down the stairs to the basement of the bunker. As soon as he pushed the door open, he paused slightly and said: "Interesting."
Red Hood walked in first. He looked at the situation in the basement, first checking the egg fragments that were completely shriveled and stuck to the ground, then looking at the magic circle drawn in the center, and finally fixed his gaze on a pool of blood in the corner.
"See anything?" Schiller asked.
"I'm not as good at reasoning as Tim." Red Hood frowned and said: "But I can still see that this pool of blood is out of place with the things around it."
"From the timeline, the magic circle drawn with fresh blood and the strange fragments stained with blood appeared earlier, while this pool of blood is later. The blood used to draw the magic circle and the blood-red fragments look different from human blood. Even if there are human blood components in it, it should be a mixture of multiple blood types, but this pool of blood by the wall belongs to one person."
"Very good, then who do you think this pool of blood belongs to?"
"I can't say for sure." Red Hood shook his head and said very honestly: "Just looking at blood to determine gender, age, physique, or even occupation is Tim's specialty. Sometimes I suspect he is a vampire. How can he guess so much just by a little blood?"
Schiller also walked into the room, carefully bypassing the magic circle and those disgusting fragments, ensuring that his shoes wouldn't get dirty. He walked to the wall, stared at the pool of blood, and said.
"This is Constantine's blood. He became Cain's food."
"What about the corpse?" Red Hood looked left and right and said: "Vampires should only drink blood. Where did the rest of the corpse go?"
"This is the problem. Someone left here with my things before us." Schiller squatted down to carefully check the shape of the edge of the blood, then said: "Or the corpse left by itself."
Red Hood shivered. He looked at the dim room and the strange sacrificial utensils on the table, feeling a chill down his back, but still couldn't help asking: "The corpse left by itself? Could it be that Constantine really ran out of Hell?"
The next second, Red Hood met Schiller's desolate gray eyes. He immediately took a step back, shrank his neck, and said: "Of-of-of course impossible, Constantine will definitely listen to you."
Schiller withdrew his gaze, stared at the footprints on his shoes, narrowed his eyes slightly, and said: "A soul entered Constantine's body, controlling his body to leave here. Then the question is, who is he? Where did he go now? And why did he do this?"
Chaotic and noisy sounds came from inside the bar. The loud music made the floor vibrate. Bennett covered his ears and turned to Jim: "Do we have to come here? I'm really going to be deafened by the noise!"
"Calm down." Deadman Boston said: "This group of people can still sing and dance now, which shows that their state is not bad. We want such allies."
Jim said nothing, pushed open the bar door quickly. The tall guard at the door glanced at the night blade on his waist, said nothing, curled his lip, and let the group in.
Jim walked through the crowd twisting their bodies on the dance floor and walked quickly toward the bar counter. Sure enough, he saw a black man dressed in a jazz style wiping a wine glass facing the wine cabinet. He took a deep breath, stepped forward, knocked on the counter, and said to the black man.
"Midnight, long time no see. How have you been lately?"
The black man called Midnight turned his head, saw it was Jim, raised his eyebrows, narrowed his eyes, and hummed twice, saying.
