Chapter 1535: The Sun Chaser (Part 12)

~11 min read 2,084 words

On the night Gwen left New York for Hollywood, Betty sent her to the airport. After watching Gwen leave, she turned and walked out of the airport terminal. Her boyfriend, Bruce Banner, was waiting for her in the car on the side of the road.

Betty got into the car and sighed lightly. Banner saw her worried expression and asked with concern, "What's wrong? Betty, are you okay?"

Betty shook her head and said, "I'm just happy for Gwen. When we worked together in the lab, she hadn't graduated yet, she was a carefree little girl, and in the blink of an eye, she and Peter are getting married."

Banner swallowed lightly, lowered his head slightly, and said, "I'm really sorry, Betty, I'm really..."

Betty was silent for a long time. Until Banner turned to look at her again, he saw tears in Betty's eyes. He stepped on the brake in a panic, reached out, and held Betty's hand tightly.

"I don't know why you are unwilling to stand with me to resist my father, Bruce. Are we going to go on like this forever?"

She turned her head and looked at Banner with tear-filled eyes and said, "Gwen often told me how stubborn her father is, but Gwen and Peter were able to overcome difficulties together and finally walk into the church. Why can't we?"

"I'm really sorry, Betty..."

"You know that's not what I want to hear, Bruce. Tell me, why are you always afraid to face my father?"

Banner was silent. Betty took a deep breath and said, "Because you also think he is right, because you also think you are an uncontrollable monster, you always want to run away, leave everyone, and leave me too."

"That's not true, Betty. I never thought about leaving you. I just, I just worry that I will hurt you." Banner's hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, revealing a trace of pain. He continued to explain, "Hulk has been much more obedient, but after all... he is not something ordinary people can deal with. He could take your life at any time."

"Either stand firmly with me, even if it means going to hell together, or stay away from me completely, so you won't have those nightmares of suddenly going crazy and killing me."

Betty stared closely at Banner's eyes and said, "We are completely torturing each other now. If we continue like this, we will both go crazy."

Betty pulled her hand out of Banner's and said, "Bruce, I really can't watch the people around me enter the hall of marriage one by one, forming happy families, while we are still dragging each other down. You can't give me a guarantee, you make me feel insecure, I can't accept such a future."

Banner closed his eyes in pain, his facial muscles trembling constantly. Betty had already turned and opened the car door. Before she walked out, she turned to Banner and said.

"You are not a monster, my father is wrong, we should fight him together and strive for our own happiness. If you don't want to take this path, then we are destined to have no future."

With a "bang", the car door closed, and the air in the car was left with only silence. The car sat quietly on the street in late autumn for several hours, until the dawn broke, and the sound of the engine started again.

Banner parked the car in front of a convenience store. He said to the clerk at the drive-thru counter in a somewhat hoarse voice, "Give me a bottle of liquor."

The clerk looked him up and down, then looked at the car he was driving, went back to get a bottle of liquor, handed it to him, and said, "Have a nice day, sir."

"I will... probably."

The light outside the window brightened and then dimmed. The sunset glow shone on the glass coffee table, refracting a brilliant bright spot, making the vision of anyone who looked at it turn completely red.

"Ding-a-ling!

"

The urgent ringing kept sounding until the phone vibrated and fell under the coffee table. A hand grabbed the phone and put it to its ear, saying in an incoherent tone, "Hello, what's wrong?"

"Bruce Banner! What are you doing?! What about the results of Project 1023? Didn't you say you'd hand it in today?! Look what time it is?!"

Dr. Octopus Otto's roar came from the other end of the phone. Banner, reeking of alcohol, sat up from the sofa in a daze and muttered, "What's the rush? Tomorrow, let's talk about it tomorrow..."

"Six project teams are waiting for your conclusion. Talk about it tomorrow? If you don't hand in the report, I won't live until tomorrow!... Forget it, where are you now? I'll come pick you up."

"I'm at... my house..."

About half an hour later, Dr. Octopus Otto appeared at Banner's house and was stunned by the messy clutter and the strong smell of alcohol.

He used the octopus tentacles behind his back to push aside the trash on the floor, walked to the coffee table, picked up the bottle next to the wine glass, took a look, gasped, and looked at Banner, who was lying on the sofa, saying, "My God, you're drinking such high-proof liquor, are you crazy?"

"I... I added... ice cubes..."

Otto opened his mouth, looked at the bottle, then looked at Banner, shook his head and said, "Alright, it seems the research data really has to be dragged until tomorrow. I'll go explain to them, you get some good rest."

"No, wait." The drunkard's mood changed as fast as the weather on the East Coast. Banner sat up from the sofa, grabbed one of Otto's tentacles and said, "It's okay, I can do the experiment, I'll go right now... to the lab..."

After finishing, he stood up with the help of the leverage, staggered toward the washroom, splashed his face with water, put his glasses back on, and straightened the hem of his wrinkled shirt. When he came out, his state looked much better.

Otto looked him up and down, a bit uncertain whether he should stop him, but thinking of the terrible scene of those irritable scientists from the research groups chasing him for reports, Otto ultimately didn't stop him.

Otto drove Banner to his lab, but because he wasn't the person in charge of this research project and didn't know the details, he asked Banner on the way. But Banner seemed not to have woken up from his hangover yet, looking dull, his tone incoherent, and he didn't explain anything clearly.

The good news is that Hulk is quiet now, the bad news is that Banner's own brain isn't working much either. Banner led the way for Otto by instinct and opened the lab's security door with his security credentials.

After walking in, he came to the experimental bench in a daze, glanced at the data on it without looking closely, and then pointed to the side for Otto and said, "I haven't done the collision experiment yet, you help me turn on the machine, I'll go get the previous experimental report."

Otto didn't think much and walked toward the room Banner pointed to. But after he went over, he realized that this was the control room of the particle collider, but it was a bit different from the ordinary control panel. For some reason, there was an observation window, and there seemed to be faint shadows inside.

Otto was very cautious and didn't dare to use unfamiliar instruments easily. He walked to the side, took a look at the documents placed on the table, and read out the text on it that he thought was the name of the project: "Anti-matter particle observation record?"

Otto frowned and muttered to himself, "So this project is to study anti-matter particles? No wonder those old men urge me for reports every day... So this is an anti-matter particle collider?"

Otto took a few steps back and looked at the big machine, but always felt something was wrong. The panel of the particle collider was similar to what he had seen before, only the observation window installed on the side was out of place, as if it had been connected later.

Out of curiosity, Otto walked up and took a look, but it was pitch black inside and he couldn't see anything. At this time, Banner had already walked over with the data. He walked to the control panel of the collider and said, "The previous preparations are ready, now just start it."

After finishing, Banner began to work next to the control panel, while Otto was still looking at the observation window.

After a while, a buzzing sound rang out. Banner glanced at the reading report and said, "Alright, just wait a few minutes. The micro-collider produced by Stark Industries is really convenient, no need to wait for several days anymore."

"Hmm? This reading..." Banner suddenly frowned, also looked at the panel next to him, and suddenly opened his eyes wide and shouted, "Wait a minute, why is there an error? Did the high-energy particle stream fail to launch? Can the collider get stuck?!"

Just as Banner exclaimed, Otto suddenly saw a blooming purple light spot from the panel of the observation window, appearing in the center of an unfamiliar star map. He was very familiar with this kind of scene—this is some kind of fusion reaction.

Otto hurriedly pulled Banner and ran out of the lab. Banner was still confused. Otto stared into his eyes and said, "Are you sure that studying anti-matter particles is a direct collision? Did you add something else to the collider?"

"Anti-matter particles?" Banner said in surprise, "What anti-matter particles? This is just an ordinary particle collision experiment!"

Otto handed the data in his hand directly to him. After Banner saw what was on it, he frowned. He looked up and scanned the lab, focusing on where he put his files, and then said, "No, someone has been here... someone moved my things!"

Banner's drunkenness woke up more than half. He rushed into the operation room of the particle collider again, saw the observation window at a glance, paused, and then said, "When did the micro-collider have this part? It wasn't there when I came yesterday..."

Just then, there was movement outside the door. Banner and Otto ran out and saw Reed walking into the lab.

"Reed, isn't your lab upstairs? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to borrow the particle collider. I have an experiment to do. I did half of it yesterday, and Susan called me away for something. I came over today to finish it. You go ahead and do your thing, I'll just use the collider."

Otto had a bad premonition. He hurriedly rushed forward and pulled Reed to the side of the observation window, pointing inside and saying, "What is producing fusion?!"

Reed looked at the scene inside the observation window in a daze. He opened his eyes wide and looked at Otto and said, "You started the machine, and the anti-matter particles are still inside!

!"

Otto was just about to say something, but Reed pushed him away and ran to the control panel. After a series of operations, he looked at the reading on the panel and said in shock.

"The high-energy particle stream collided with the anti-matter particles at the cosmic coordinates corresponding to the positive matter particles, opening a channel to the anti-matter universe!"

Immediately after, he took two steps back and said loudly, "Quick! Go upstairs! Use Stark's observer robot!"

The three of them rushed to the top floor of the lab. Banner used his identity card to obtain the authority of Stark's observer robots scattered throughout the universe. Reed adjusted the coordinates, and the next second, the three of them froze in place.

After the purple light spot flickered briefly, ripples spread out from the origin one after another. Within the radiation range of the black hole where no light could be observed, a white star as bright as the sun miraculously appeared—that was a channel to the anti-matter universe.

And just as the channel opened, a huge bug with six legs, three foot-joints, and dozens of compound eyes crawled out from inside.

And following closely, the infinite Zerg, when descending into this universe, like a terrifying tide that annihilated everything, instantly swept across the entire universe. ===== CHAPTER 1536 =====
