Chapter 1618: No Time to Die (Part 17)
Cat Getan's night is still deep and cold. Countless killings, screams, and blood ripple in the city. The gorgeous neon colors are like a fragile shell, whitewashing the coat of civilization. Cold spotlights sway in the sky.
Separated only by a river, the brightly lit high-rise buildings and the crowded and chaotic slums look at each other from afar. When the soul-stirring, continuous drizzle falls, all outlines collapse as if dissolved.
In the city wrapped in dense rain lines, a bright light suddenly lit up. The iconic bat pattern became the only thing in the wind and rain that didn't drift.
That dark figure standing at the highest point of Cat Getan jumped down. The mirror-like water surface in the puddles on the street reflected that terrifying figure.
"Woo-woo—woo-woo—woo-woo—"
The sharp siren sounded at the end of the street. The lights of the police car were abnormally enchanting in the darkness. Gordon led several police officers and rushed out. He pulled out the pistol at his waist, held the gun with both hands, pointed it at the person wearing a strange mask in the bank, and said.
"Black Mask! Put down the gun and raise your hands!"
The robber known as Black Mask wore a black jacket, a black mask in the shape of a skull that wrapped his whole face, and held a pistol, shouting at the bank tellers who were squatting on the ground with their hands on their heads along with several gangster subordinates.
"Boss, there are at least twenty of them. Besides the bank staff, the hostages also include two ladies and three gentlemen who came to withdraw money, and even a five-year-old girl. It's very difficult to handle."
Gordon turned his head and looked seriously at the police officer who delivered the news, then said to him: "Are the snipers in position?"
"They've been in position for a long time, but the place they chose is very unfavorable for our sniper officers to play. We haven't found a good sniper position yet."
"Black Mask is more cunning than other robbers, otherwise he couldn't have survived in Cat Getan until today. Don't worry, let the negotiation expert drag him out first. The bat signal is on, Batman will be here soon."
The police officer took the order and left. Gordon narrowed his eyes and glared at the robbers showing off inside. His face was very heavy, but he didn't show much anger, more like he was trying hard to think of countermeasures.
But the scene now was almost unsolvable for the Cat Getan Police Department. The crime location Black Mask chose was an old-fashioned bank, located on the old street on the east side of Cat Getan City. The buildings here were generally low, without high-rises. The windows of old-fashioned buildings were small, and some had very wide wooden window frames. Snipers couldn't find good sniper positions.
Black Mask should have followed the parents with children here all the way. The hostages in his hands were too fragile, and the police didn't dare to act rashly. Now, the only one who could break this deadlock was probably Batman.
Suddenly, a loud noise of "clatter" came from the side of the stairs. Gordon was immediately refreshed. Batman is here!
But after the sound of breaking glass, the one who appeared behind Black Mask wasn't that familiar dark figure.
"Batman, you finally... Who are you?!"
"Uh, hello, is this a bank robbery?"
A slightly immature voice came from the mouth of this strange figure. He shrugged and said: "Wow, old man, your mask is really cool. Where did you buy it? I guess it definitely wasn't Macy's, right?"
"Also, you should know that robbing a bank is wrong, right? By the way, the few guys you arranged at the back door have been put down by me. Don't look at me with that kind of look. I originally just wanted to find someone to ask for directions."
The strange figure stood on tiptoe, took a few steps back, opened his hands, and said: "Put down the gun, let's talk about your mask problem properly, or do you plan to pose and stand there stupidly until we both miss dinner time, and I can't go home?"
"No matter what kind of freak you are, get out!" Black Mask directly raised the gun in his hand, pointing it straight at the stranger's head.
"You are too impolite, even more impolite than the golden freak who threw me from a height of two meters. Besides, I'm not any freak..."
The stranger twisted his shoulders without any tension. Black Mask's eyes were filled with murderous intent, and just as he pulled the trigger, time seemed to freeze.
A hand covered in a combat suit reached the side of his wrist at a speed that was invisible to the naked eye. The moment the muzzle flashed with fire, the wrist and the pistol were turned in a direction.
"Bang!"
"Clatter!"
The fired bullet shattered the window glass next to it, a strange scream rang out, followed by the fierce wind of a fist brushing past Black Mask's ear.
"Bang!"
Black Mask was like a sandbag, directly picked up from the spot. An uppercut picked him up to the ceiling. With a "clatter," the chandelier fell down, followed by another punch, directly beating Black Mask into the wall opposite.
"I'm not a freak, I'm Spider-Man!"
Everyone present was stunned. No one saw Spider-Man's movements just now. In the eyes of ordinary people, Spider-Man was like teleporting, twisting the muzzle, and then with two "bang-bang" punches, beat Black Mask onto the wall, unable to be dug out.
Gordon was the first to react. He shouted: "It's a super criminal! Snipers, get ready!"
"Hey, why? Didn't you see me beat up a bank robber just now? I'm not a criminal, I'm just a passerby who was unfortunately kidnapped here!"
Spider-Man shouted in disbelief.
"Bang! Bang-bang-bang!"
Suddenly, Black Mask's subordinates opened fire. Instantly, bullets flew everywhere in the bank lobby, shattering the counter, the tabletop hit the table, the landscape flowerpot exploded with a "bang," and the chair flew directly out of the door.
Another series of movements so fast that ordinary people couldn't see them at all, Spider-Man perfectly avoided all bullets and threw the hostages inside out of the bank lobby door like sandbags.
Immediately after, he didn't stop, "bang-bang-bang" punched down all the criminals who had just fired, and then rushed to the inside of the bank lobby at the fastest speed, holding a little girl who was still crying.
He held the little girl in front of Gordon, then put her down, and said: "You are the sheriff, right? She's handed over to you. I still have to continue asking for directions. Bye."
After saying this, Spider-Man turned and was about to leave. Gordon stopped him and said: "You are called Spider-Man, uh, can I understand it as a synonym for Robin?"
"What is Robin? I'm not a bird, I'm Spider-Man."
"Okay, new Robin, you have a cool title. But you want to ask for the way to where? Can't you find Batman?"
"Who is Batman? How can he copy my title? Besides, isn't it a bit too strange to use a bat as a representative animal? God, he wouldn't have been bitten by a bat, right?!"
Spider-Man shuddered, his whole body trembled, as if he was dancing a tap dance on the spot, and then he gestured a few times and said: "I just want to go home, but I saw it on a high building just now. This place isn't New York at all. Do you know where the nearest train station or airport is?"
"What is New York?"
"God, you don't know New York? But this place doesn't look like some remote area, how can there be someone who hasn't heard of New York?"
"Listen, kid." Gordon walked up and pressed Spider-Man's shoulder and said: "Although I can't help with the place you want to find, you did a good job today. Go back and tell Batman that when I started the bat signal today, the switch there was a bit worn. If he has time, come over and fix it."
"I'll ask again, who is Batman?"
"God, you don't know Batman?" Gordon glared at Spider-Man and said: "Where did you just come from? And if you aren't Robin, how could Batman let you fight crime in Cat Getan?"
"You said a series of strange things." Spider-Man shook his head with confusion, took a few steps back, and said: "If you don't tell me the location of the train station or airport, I'll ask someone else. I'm leaving first, bye."
After saying this, in the shocked eyes of everyone, he extended an arm, fired a spider silk that stuck to the roof of the nearest building, and then jumped up and swung into the rain, disappearing at the end of the street.
Gordon widened his eyes and looked at the direction he disappeared, then shook his head and muttered: "Another freak from who knows where. Looks like I have to ask Batman."
After the case was closed, Gordon returned the little girl to her parents, then returned to the police station to prepare to write a report. Just as he was organizing the documents, a dark shadow appeared silently behind him.
"Did you see his performance today?"
It was the familiar affirmative question. Gordon turned his head and saw Batman hidden in the shadows. He sighed, and before he could complain about Batman's stealth, he thought of the freak who called himself Spider-Man he had just encountered.
"Batman, don't tell me you raised another Robin, and then he had a conflict with you, refused to admit he was Robin, wanted to be independent and work alone, and fought crime in the city alone?"
Gordon's tone was full of helplessness. Batman was clearly silent for a while, then said: "Why do you think he is Robin?"
"You can tell from his body shape and voice. He isn't old, maybe still in high school, and he wears a bright tight-fitting uniform, specifically going against criminals. And what title could prove his relationship with you better than 'Spider-Man'?"
Gordon was organizing documents while looking up at Batman from above his glasses, the expression on his face as if saying "You can fool others, but you can't fool me."
"He isn't my Robin." Batman's tone was still low and slow, and became more and more certain: "But he has this potential."
"This is truly strange. In this city, there are still little boys full of justice who haven't heard of Batman?" Gordon shook his head, turned his head back, pulled out a chair and sat down, writing a report while saying.
"Unless he isn't from this city."
"That's also possible." Gordon nodded, paused, and said: "I don't know where his strange equipment came from. I thought only you could make such things."
"I'm also curious."
"Do you want him to be your Robin?" Gordon put on his glasses, looked back at Batman, and said: "Aren't there enough members of the Bat-family?"
Batman was silent for a while, then said: "They have been very busy recently, and I need an assistant."
"He doesn't look like your little assistant. You should have seen his performance today. Either he is gifted with great strength, or he has some superpowers. He is different from the orphans you picked up before."
"But I can't let a freak with unknown abilities and origins move freely in this city." Batman's tone finally had a fluctuation, and the common seriousness was revealed in the tone.
"I won't let a freak with unknown abilities and origins fight crime in this city, because he could turn into a super criminal with great destructive power at any time."
Gordon turned over a page of the report and said: "What you said makes sense, but I think you should respect this child's opinion."
"If he isn't willing, I will send him home, let him leave this city forever, and never come back."
Gordon's movements stopped. He sighed lightly, looked at the window where the night rain was still drifting, and said: "I hope he has no intention of this. Except for us, no one should sink with this city." ===== CHAPTER 1619 =====
