Chapter 1631

~11 min read 2,160 words

The Joker and Spider-Man have broken up.

On a night of torrential rain, the Joker disappeared alone into the end of the dark street, like a silent man carrying countless tragic stories.

Mostly, the Joker really didn't know what to say for an acceptance speech if he were Cat Getan's good neighbor, so he decided to painfully leave this award to Spider-Man alone.

Well, actually, it was because Spider-Man was just too annoying; his style was completely different from this taciturn city. Not only did he want to chat with the Joker every second, but if the Joker didn't respond, he would just narrate his own stories by himself.

The Joker was a man with excellent endurance; you just had to imagine him as a crazy version of Batman. He had all the traits Batman possessed, and his willpower was naturally a given; he could endure anything to achieve his goals.

He intended to wait until Spider-Man ran out of things to say and naturally quieted down, but who could have expected that in Spider-Man's short dozen or so years of life, there would be endless thousands of stories to tell.

When Spider-Man had finished recounting almost every second of detail from his life experience and started counting the life experiences of Aunt May and Uncle Ben, the Joker knew that fruitless endurance was meaningless.

And Spider-Man didn't just tell them to the Joker.

If a bicycle fell by the roadside, he would have to give a speech to the bicycle about how illegal parking violated public order and could potentially trip people or even crush pet dogs.

If someone carried a heavy load upstairs, he would have to teach them how to use their waist strength to avoid muscle injury, or which leg to put the center of gravity on to make going upstairs easier.

If a drainpipe on the roof dripped, while tapping and hammering, he would start talking about the effect of gravitational potential energy on raindrops, as well as the history of metal drainpipe manufacturing, the inventor's life, and the economic background of their large-scale use in the United States.

This was the first time the Joker had abandoned his target of utility without any external interference or having squeezed out all remaining value, simply because the target was too annoying.

But having abandoned Spider-Man, the Joker couldn't go walking the streets and alleys to find Robin like Spider-Man did.

The Joker's super-intelligence told him that the current Robin's behavioral patterns had completely changed. If he used the old behavioral patterns to predict them, it was very likely he would make mistakes; it was very difficult to fish them out using the old methods.

The Joker returned to the Joker Gang's base and found Harley Quinn was not there. He directly sent a message to all his men, demanding they search for the Robins' figures throughout Cat Getan.

As it turned out, before the searchers could report back any news, Batman's second Robin, Jason Todd, blasted open the Joker Gang's front gate with a grenade launcher.

"Listen up, people inside! From today on, we are taking over everything on Nottingham Street. Either join the family, or die!"

When the Red Hood, who had rushed in, and the Joker stared at each other, both were stunned.

"Joker?!!"

The Joker had thought the Red Hood would rush up like before, grab his collar, throw him against the wall, and punch him a few times, so he simply didn't run or move.

But the Red Hood stared at the Joker with great surprise and said, "Joker? Why are you here? I heard people say this was gang territory?"

Then the Red Hood looked around at the surrounding environment, discovered the many smiley face graffiti and the graffiti spray painting in the center of the wall that was completely the Joker's image, revealed a sudden realization expression, and when he looked at the Joker again, his eyes were a bit off.

"So you're also running a gang?!"

"……This is not a gang!"

"But you are their boss, they all listen to you, and then you commit crimes together; if this isn't a gang, what is it?"

"They are just cannon fodder I recruited!"

"Gang lackeys are all cannon fodder!"

As the words fell, the Red Hood put away the rocket launcher he was carrying on his shoulder, shook the leg that wasn't supporting his weight in a slightly hooligan-like manner, touched his nose with his hand, and said.

"The Godfather says that to run a gang, you first need a broad mind. Since that's the case, I won't hold a grudge against the little mess you made before. How about you and your men join us?"

"You…… Batman……"

"What are you babbling about? Why do you only know Batman? Can't live without Batman, right? Give me a straight answer, are you in or not?!"

The Joker's current mood could probably be summarized as—those are all my lines!

After experiencing the initial shock, the Joker took a deep breath and came back to his senses. He crossed his arms, looked at the Red Hood in front of him, and said, "What exactly are you doing? Did Batman's serious, stinky face finally drive you crazy?!"

"As you can see, we just established a gang family in Cat Getan City." The Red Hood shrugged, as if he were just saying what he had for breakfast. He stood the rocket launcher upright on the ground, glared at the Joker, and said, "Don't change the subject. You are the last gang on this street. Once we deal with you, this street belongs to us."

"Considering you're an old acquaintance, I'll ask one last time: are you in or not?!"

Just as the Joker was about to say something, the group of mentally unstable Joker fans under him couldn't hold back anymore. One person rushed out from behind a pile of discarded soda cans, shouting strange gibberish, and fired a barrage of shots at them.

Immediately after, there were "Boom, boom, boom," "Bang, bang, bang," and "Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh." Suddenly, the entire Joker Gang became a scene of gang warfare. After more than ten minutes, Jason and Harley brought people over to clean up the scene, coincidentally running into Harley Quinn, who was just passing by.

Harley Quinn stood in front of the street, blankly looking at the pile of strangely shaped charred remains in front of her, with only one thought in her heart—where is my home???

Harley looked at Harley Quinn, who had the exact same face as her but was dressed like a punk parrot, and had only one thought in her heart—who is this???

At the same time, the Joker, who had slipped away unscathed, swallowed back the words of agreeing to work with the Red Hood. Gangs were simply rude! No aesthetic sense at all!

Immediately after, the Joker arrived at the Cat Getan Police Department, but this time he wasn't there to surrender. He had a high degree of confidence in persuading the Penguin, who was currently imprisoned, to help him figure out what was going on.

As it turned out, on the second-floor balcony, he heard Gordon talking on the phone with a government official, and the words revealed that the Penguin had just been bailed out by someone, and the one who bailed him out was Cat Getan's new gang family, the "Naiwei" family.

Once the term "Naiwei" came out, what else was there for the Joker not to understand?

At this very moment, the Joker suddenly realized that this might be the most unprecedented, super-invincible, huge amount of fun in Cat Getan's history.

Because the Joker only now discovered that these teenagers weren't suddenly going crazy; they had truly realized something.

They were even willing to abandon their usual serious moral bottom lines for this ridiculous gang business, to bribe and accept bribes to bail criminals out of the police station.

And he was actually wasting time stopping Robin, instead of immediately rushing to Batman's side, fully focused on watching his every move, every expression, and finishing this huge amount of fun that might overturn Cat Getan with Batman?

The Joker almost used his hands and feet to climb out of the Cat Getan Police Department's balcony, and then rushed to the Batcave at the fastest speed, knocking on the door hard from outside the Batcave just like Spider-Man would.

"Open the door! Open the door! Is anyone there? Is Batman home? Open the door quickly!"

After Batman opened the door and saw the Joker standing outside, he wasn't surprised at all, because he had already seen the Joker's tracks in the surveillance room.

The Joker gave Batman a brilliant smile, clasped his hands together, winked at Batman, and said, "The Robins are all very busy lately, right?"

"What do you want to do again?" Batman narrowed his eyes and said.

Batman's tone was as if the Joker's concern for the Robins' whereabouts was to make a move on them, but then he heard the Joker say.

"It seems that the new Robin doesn't like staying by your side either. I actually have a good candidate to recommend to you."

"……Who?"

"Me, what do you think?"

The Joker didn't miss the flash of shock in Batman's eyes at all, but he was indeed sincerely recommending himself.

Not only because this allowed him to watch the fun of Batman up close, but also because Batman was the only perfect movie companion who had the same intelligence as him, could match his brainwaves, understood him very well, was quiet and not annoying, and could combine the audience and the protagonist into one.

The Joker's true thought was that only Batman was worthy of watching this huge amount of fun with him.

Mock Robin, question Robin, understand Robin, become Robin.

Batman took a deep breath, but he still moved his body aside and welcomed the Joker into the Batcave with a serious expression.

He didn't have mind-reading powers and couldn't guess what the Joker was thinking; he just hoped that if he could drag this culprit by his side, perhaps his conspiracy against the Robins could be a little less, and his own children could be a little safer. Batman always chose this way.

The Joker, who had completely changed his mindset, returned to the Batcave as if he were returning to his own home. When Batman turned his head, he saw the Joker sprawled on the only sofa in the Batcave, hugging a pillow with one hand and frantically stuffing the snacks Jason hadn't finished into his mouth with the other—he was more at ease than the Robins.

But this wasn't without reason. Every time the Robins came to the Batcave, it was either to receive training or to argue with Batman. All the unfinished snacks were because the atmosphere was fine at the beginning, but after staying for a while, they would start arguing, and then it would be the familiar scene of throwing snacks and leaving.

The Joker leaned on the sofa, crunching on potato chips, and with a mouth full of chip crumbs, he said to Batman, "Where is your super-large screen? Move it out quickly. I just put the camera you previously set up in the Joker Gang base onto that little guy wearing the Red Hood. You can adjust the line, right?"

Batman stood silently for a while. Soon, a huge projection screen appeared in the hall. The Joker sprawled on the sofa eating snacks, while Batman stood in the shadows behind him, fully armed.

To the Joker's surprise, the first image that appeared on the screen wasn't a gang firefight with bullets flying. A table appeared in the image from the Red Hood's first-person perspective.

The table was a bit messy, and there was an unfinished gun on it, with parts scattered everywhere, but in the very center of the table was a letter, and the letter paper had just been opened.

The surveillance image zoomed out slightly, and Batman discovered that the Red Hood was standing behind a chair, and sitting on the chair was Red Robin, who was reaching out to dip his fountain pen in ink.

Red Robin picked up the pen and wrote a letter on a new piece of letter paper. It looked like he was replying to someone. The letter was already half-written, so the header couldn't be seen. The Red Hood was constantly swaying like he had ADHD, making it almost impossible to see the content of the letter.

But Batman still used his amazing dynamic vision to capture the last sentence and the recipient's name when signing off.

"……According to the plan, the operation to conquer Nottingham Street is very smooth. Our next target is Baladi Street. Thank you very much for your careful answers and guidance. Looking forward to the echo from Sicily. May God always bless you.

To the respected Godfather, Carmine Falcone."
