Chapter 1664

~11 min read 2,001 words

Before dawn the next morning, Harley was woken up by Barry. She was bleary-eyed and stumbling as she walked, and looking at the two of them, who were both looking very energetic, she asked with some confusion, "How can you two be up so early?"

"We didn't sleep all night."

Harley was even more confused, and then her eyes began to dart back and forth between Barry and little Bruce. Little Bruce impatiently pushed Barry aside and said, "We have to go to the greenhouse to take a look, have you forgotten? We need to check the types of plants that were lost."

Harley let out a huge yawn and turned back to change her clothes. Not long after, the three of them passed through the large garden, which was full of damp dew, in the light of the sunrise, and arrived once again at the small building next to the greenhouse.

Pamela did not live here, so she had not been there all night or that morning. The three of them walked in through the main entrance, and little Bruce did not find any footprints on the stone slab surface in the courtyard.

"Either he was very cautious and deliberately avoided stepping on the mud, waiting for the evening rain to wash away the traces on the stone path, or he simply knows how to fly and doesn't touch the ground at all; otherwise, it would be impossible not to leave footprints."

As he said this, the three of them circled around the building and arrived at the backyard. Little Bruce pointed to the flower rack in the small garden and said, "I remember clearly that the second row here was filled with spiral grass, and below it was heteromorphic kale. Now, four or five pots of plants are missing here."

"A pot of Arada swamp mushrooms is also missing here. That is a type of mushroom from malt that is covered in slimy mucus on the surface. That kind of mucus is usually used as a catalyst for healing potions."

Barry looked around and asked, "Are you sure that all the missing items are raw materials for healing potions?"

"Yes, of course." Harley nodded and said with great certainty.

Little Bruce's head still hurt a little, and the cold air entering his nasal cavity made his eye sockets feel like they were being pricked by nails, but he still tried to concentrate and said, "Whoever took these herbs couldn't have brewed them in their own office. They must have gone to the Zattara Academy's potion laboratory, and the potion laboratory is used by people during the day. He must have finished brewing the potion before the students went there in the morning."

"That means he might have just finished brewing the potion now!" Barry raised his voice and said.

The three of them ran quickly through the large garden again, bypassed the main castle, and arrived at the location of the academy's underground potion and alchemy laboratory. Just as they reached the entrance to the underground stairs, Harley, who was running in front, bumped into someone head-on.

But to their disappointment, it was not Professor Rodriguez as they had expected, but Professor Constantine.

"Why are you running so fast?" Constantine pulled up Harley, who had been knocked to the ground by him, and looked at them curiously, saying, "It's breakfast time now, why aren't you going to the Great Hall and coming here instead?"

But little Bruce sniffed hard, walked up, looked into Constantine's eyes, and said, "Were you just brewing a potion?"

"Your nose is sharper than a dog's." Constantine reached out and touched little Bruce's head, saying, "Yes, I just came out of the potion laboratory. What's the matter?"

"Sorry, Professor Constantine, may I ask what kind of potion you are brewing?"

"Some healing potions, is there a problem?"

"Are you sick?"

"No, a colleague of mine asked me to brew it because he doesn't really like the smell of the potion laboratory. If you have nothing else to do, hurry up and go eat. The cafeteria will be closed if you're late."

After speaking, Constantine bypassed them, and his back disappeared into the stairwell. Little Bruce narrowed his eyes and said, "Master of psychology... he must know how to manipulate others to achieve his goals."

"This is really a bit suspicious." Barry frowned and said, "Dean Wei En said that Professor Constantine, Dean Rodriguez, and Master of the Dark Night Jim are friends. Professor Constantine's arm looks intact, and he said he was brewing potions for his colleague. Who else could this colleague be?"

"Why on earth do you have to stand here guessing back and forth?" Harley seemed a bit unable to stand it anymore: "Defeating the tree demon, blasting the door open with a single shot, ensuring the safety of the Sorcerer's Stone—that is the Cat Getan way."

Harley put her hands on her hips and looked at the two boys, saying, "Listen to me, go after class today. Besides grenades, I have plenty of good stuff here. No matter what is in the room, we can feed them until they're full!"

After speaking, Harley walked quickly toward the main castle, following the flow of senior students to class. Bruce tugged at Barry's arm and said, "I feel something is wrong. She seems to be hiding something from us."

"She is a Cat Getan local and definitely knows more than we do." Barry said while walking in the other direction of the corridor with little Bruce: "But judging by your attitude earlier, if it were me, I wouldn't tell you either."

"She definitely knows more about Rodriguez than she lets on." Little Bruce said thoughtfully.

And just as they were about to follow the crowd into the classroom, they saw Constantine walking against the crowd toward the direction of Rodriguez Academy. Little Bruce grabbed Barry, stopped him from entering the classroom, and instead dragged him to follow behind Constantine.

"Hey, what are you doing? We're going to be late for class."

"We must get reliable evidence!" Little Bruce dragged Barry and walked faster and faster, eventually even running. He looked back at Barry and said, "Constantine might be going to deliver medicine to Rodriguez. If that's the case, then we'll know what's going on!"

Barry was dragged along behind Constantine. Sure enough, Constantine entered the Dean's office of Rodriguez Academy, and the two of them saw with their own eyes Constantine take the healing potion out of his arms and hand it to Schiller.

They wanted to continue observing to see if Schiller would reveal the wound on his arm, but by this time Constantine had already come out. They would definitely be discovered if they continued to lie at the window and look inside, so they had no choice but to leave early.

"Now we are sure it's him." Little Bruce clenched his fists and said, "A wound caused by a paper shredder? No one would believe that even if you told a three-year-old!"

"Then what should we do?"

"Go see the Sorcerer's Stone tonight first. No matter what he wants to do, as long as the Sorcerer's Stone is safe and sound, there will be no problem."

Just after the backs of the two children disappeared at the end of the corridor, Schiller took the healing potion, arrived at the Dean's office of Strange Academy, and slapped the potion in front of Strange.

Strange raised an eyebrow and said, "You know I'm dissatisfied with the difficulty of the trial and definitely want to secretly change the content of the trial, so you deliberately brought a tree demon and placed it at the door, betting that I would definitely get hurt without magic."

Strange picked up a potion, used his hand to lift the sleeve on his arm, revealing the wound wrapped in a circle of bandages underneath. He poured the potion onto the wound and said.

"But I still have to say, the trial that you, Jim, and Constantine came up with is a bit too childish." Strange shook his head. He looked at Schiller and said, "Just violating school rules to defeat a certain monster and going into a room to pass some levels set up by the professors—can that really give them enough courage to resist when facing angels and demons?"

"What do you think?" Schiller asked noncommittally.

"You are a bit different from the Schiller I know. The biggest difference is that you are truly a good teacher. You seem strict with students, but you actually don't want them to get hurt." Strange tidied up his sleeves unhurriedly.

"You are not like Greed, who doesn't care how cruel the process is as long as the goal of educating them can be achieved. This is the reason why you can torture each other with your students. When they feel pain, you feel the same pain for it."

Schiller did not deny it. He just looked at Strange's chest and said, "You still took out the Sorcerer's Stone that we put in there, right?"

Strange took out a crystal-clear green crystal emitting a faint light from his arms, weighed it in his hand, and said, "If those children knew that this thing could be piled up into a mountain, they would definitely be furious... Do you know that your student Bruce Wei En has come to see me?"

"I was just wondering what you talked about."

"He told me he had several goals to achieve and hoped I would cooperate, and I saw in it the possibility of a brand new, truly effective trial for the students, so I found an opportunity to swap out the Sorcerer's Stone you set up."

"Swapped it for what?"

"Didn't you let Master Andrew put many magic projections in that corridor? We will know tonight."

Soon it was night. Schiller, Bruce, Strange, Constantine, Pamela, and Zatanna were sitting on the sofa in the reception area of the Dean's office of Rodriguez Academy. In front of them was a huge suspended magic projection screen, which was exactly the scene of the fourth-floor corridor of the main castle.

Soon, three figures began to poke their heads around the stairwell sneakily. But before anyone appeared, several meteor-like black shadows streaked across graceful arcs and rolled to the feet of the tree demon.

The tree demon was not that smart. The order it received was to not move if no one attacked the door, so when five, six, seven, or eight grenades exploded at the same time, it didn't even dodge.

"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"

The scene on the magic screen was directly covered by smoke. After the smoke dissipated, a large hole was blown into the corridor wall, which was made of magic materials and was stronger than any material in the ordinary human society.

Pamela in front of the screen covered her forehead and said, "I didn't apply any high-level magic protection to Sergei. You didn't tell me that the students here would throw grenades."

"Gothamites are like this." Constantine sighed and said, "It's not that you can only use magic in a magic academy. I've said it before, defenseless demons are also afraid of bullets, explosions, and fire."

But when Harley, who was leading, took out a shoulder-fired anti-tank rocket launcher from somewhere, Constantine still fell silent.

The only person among those present who remained as steady as a mountain was Schiller. He lowered his head to cut his cigar and then said, "It is precisely because I understand Gothamites that the tree demon was only an appetizer. Most of the puzzles in the trial cannot be solved by force."

And watching the teaching building wall that had been blown into a large hole and the already shattered branches of the tree demon, Harley let out a cheer.

She pushed the small cart loaded with rocket launchers, machine guns, grenades, and who knows how many bullets, and rushed toward the door of the trial room.
