Chapter 1675

~11 min read 2,009 words

After finishing Loki's class, Harley and Helen had originally intended to return to their dormitory to rest for a while—mainly because Harley needed a break. They could take a twenty-minute nap before heading to their other classes, which would leave them with plenty of time at noon to look up information.

Harley walked toward her dormitory while yawning, but her vision was blurred to the point of near-darkness. She saw a figure rush out from the end of the corridor—a girl with disheveled hair who looked a bit older than Harley, clutching a wand in her hand, with magical light radiating from her fingers.

"Harley! Look out!" Helen screamed.

Harley instinctively sidestepped, and a bolt of magical light struck the wall behind her.

In an instant, the girl with white-gold hair revealed her ferocious side. Like a wild beast, she curled her lips to bare her fangs at the attacker, rolled on the ground to dodge a second bolt of magical light, and charged at the attacker with extreme speed.

The next second, the girl who had attacked Harley had her wrist seized. Harley, whose aggression had been maximized by her exhaustion, grabbed the girl's wrist and drove the sharp wand directly into her eyeball.

"Ahhhhhhhh!!!!"

A scream of agony rang out. Harley still gripped the wand tightly, even intending to pierce through the opponent's brain, but fortunately, Helen rushed up in time to pull Harley back. By this time, Barry had already reached the stairwell.

"Harley! Are you okay?!"

Harley seemed to have just come to her senses. She slowly loosened her grip, not even glancing at the girl who was clutching her eyeball and screaming. She sighed with a hint of exhaustion, shook her head, and said, "No, I'm fine."

Then, she turned her head to look at the attacker, squeezed a hiss out of her throat with some disgust, and cursed, "Trash."

Barry and Helen were both stunned; they had never seen this side of Harley. Jennifer, who was standing on the first step of the stairwell, stopped her upward movement, hesitated for a moment, then turned and ran away.

Barry looked back, didn't see Jennifer's figure, and said, "Quick, support her. The professor should be here in a while."

Sure enough, Loki hurried over with a group of students. Seeing the student lying on the ground wailing with a wand still stuck in her eye socket, he paused for a moment and then said, "Is this someone sticking a wand into their own eye again? I heard another student went crazy and tried to attack someone. Where is the victim?"

Helen rushed over in a flash and tugged on Loki's sleeve. Loki bent down, Helen whispered in his ear, and his brow furrowed deeper and deeper.

Loki bypassed the children and knelt down to check the condition of the injured person. Harley leaned against the window with her arms crossed, showing no self-awareness as a victim; her gaze was fixed on the eyes of the attacker still struggling on the ground.

One of the attacker's eyeballs had undoubtedly been pierced and certainly couldn't be saved. Perhaps magic could reshape one for her, but the original one was definitely unusable. However, what Harley found somewhat astonishing was the madness revealed within that intact eyeball.

She was indeed crazy, Harley concluded, but this madness did not belong to her. She was just a poor wretch being manipulated; someone had lured her with madness and imposed it upon her, unlike Harley, whose madness was buried deep in her heart, only occasionally revealing a sharp edge.

It had just revealed an edge, Harley thought, lowering her eyelids. Every Gothamite was like a monster wearing human skin; the cold rain of those countless nights had long since turned the things beneath their human skin chaotic and strange. In any case, it had nothing to do with being human; it was more like a collection of madness.

Finally, the school doctor and other Grand Mages gathered around to ask about Harley's situation. Harley's clever and sharp little mind turned slightly, and she immediately lowered her head, saying in the posture of a victim, "Sorry, my parents died quite early. I grew up among those relatives who wanted to fight over the inheritance. My self-defense instinct is quite heavy, and sometimes I attack others when provoked. I really didn't mean it."

The leading Pale Face immediately showed a sympathetic expression. She gently stroked Harley's head, held her in her arms, and said, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, child. This academy absolutely does not allow anyone to hurt others wantonly. We will soon get to the bottom of the matter, and everything will be fine."

But everything did not get better.

After the last required course ended, a boy who looked no older than a fourth-year student rushed into the Blue Spirit's classroom. He shouted in terror, "The third floor, the corridor on the third floor! Someone wrote on the wall!"

In little Bruce's somewhat surreal perspective, everyone rushed out of the room, led by that parasite living in a human body. They all headed toward the scene of the incident.

He was a parasite, little Bruce could tell. Those terrible, dirty factors were parasitizing a human who might be an agent. How could they allow such a creature to appear in the school and even openly become a professor?

A sense of disgust and crisis appeared in little Bruce's mind for the first time. He had never realized before that he had such great malice toward things that were not human.

Under Barry's pulling and dragging, little Bruce still followed the crowd into the corridor, and then he saw a line of strange and chaotic text on the wall of the third-floor corridor of the teaching building.

It was not any known language, but little Bruce clearly understood that everyone present, regardless of nationality, race, or education level, could read this line—

"The Chamber of Secrets has been opened, enemies of the heir, beware!"

Little Bruce really couldn't understand the language the people around him were discussing this sentence in. He felt that he might have developed a kind of anger due to the language barrier, so he didn't stay any longer, pulled Barry, and walked away from the corridor quickly.

"What is wrong with you? Bruce? Ever since you woke up, you've seemed absent-minded. Are you okay?" Barry asked, chasing after little Bruce.

"I'm fine, but I must go to the library now. I plan to spend a day and a night learning Chinese and Japanese. I've had enough of the days of not knowing the language."

Barry didn't know for a moment whether little Bruce's unprovoked anger or his plan to learn two languages in one day was more surprising.

"Some strange things have happened."

In the canteen of the Kamar-Taj Academy, Helen gently stirred the crystal-clear grains of rice on the surface of her rice with chopsticks, saying with some worry, "As I said, the elephant is in the room, but everyone hasn't noticed."

"What do you think that sentence means?"

Harley asked. There was a piece of grilled saury on her plate, clearly a Japanese-style preparation, while some Chinese dishes were placed between the two, all simple home-cooked stir-fries. To describe it in detail, it was combining a random vegetable and meat and cooking it with a light flavor.

But in fact, neither Helen nor Harley could be called light-flavored. The common point in their tastes was that they couldn't live without meat, and stir-frying, deep-frying, and braising were best. It was just that neither of them was in the mood to eat now, so they just took some dishes casually.

"First, most obviously, what is the Chamber of Secrets? A secret room? Why would the Chamber of Secrets be opened? What is inside it? Who is the heir? And who needs to beware?"

Harley's movement with the chopsticks paused for a moment. She analyzed as rationally as possible, "The student going crazy and attacking others must be related to this message on the wall. This is one thing."

"And according to the information we know, the problem we need to analyze is whether this matter has anything to do with the book placed in the bottom drawer of our dormitory wardrobe."

"Of course it does." Helen was very certain. Her conspiracy thinking, which had only recently developed, was perfecting itself at an extremely fast speed. She was almost absorbing Harley's wisdom from afar, following her train of thought at an astonishing speed.

"We just started wanting to study this book, and strange things happened one after another. No one would believe it if there was no connection, but we didn't open this book. How did the elephant get out?"

Facing this question, Harley was silent. Then she looked up at Helen and said, "You are the daughter of Loki Odinson, right?"

Helen nodded. This was an obvious fact because the two of them looked too much alike. Even if she wanted to deny it, her appearance was ironclad evidence.

"Then in this academy, the only person who can be called the heir is probably you. You have royal blood, don't you?"

"But I will not inherit Asgard."

"Will you not?"

Helen paused slightly and then said, "First of all, my background is a bit bizarre. I do have Asgardian royal blood, and even the power of the current King of Gods, but my other father... he might not really want me to become the Queen of Asgard."

"Does he have the ability to stop it?" Harley was hinting at Asgard's power.

"Of course he does." Helen was hinting at the power of her other father, but she still asked with some hesitation, "If I am the heir referred to in this sentence, then who is my enemy? And why make so much trouble in the school?"

"We are just about to investigate these."

Just as the two were talking, a student walked over with a tray, but when he reached the table where the two girls were, he turned and bypassed it, not choosing this closest path. The several students behind were the same.

Obviously, it was not only Harley who felt that Helen, who possessed Asgardian royal blood, was the heir. She really had a throne to inherit in her family. If she wasn't the heir, who else could she be?

But there were exceptions. Pale Face took the initiative to sit opposite Helen, next to Harley. She looked into Helen's eyes and said, "Don't worry too much. Your father and the other professors will solve everything."

"I don't think I am the heir." Helen shook her head gently and said, "Precisely because the direction is too obvious, all of this might be a smokescreen. I would never have thought of these things before, but now I am clear and sharp."

"The upcoming internal school competition will add fuel to all this chaos." Harley asserted, "There will be more and more students responding to the Demon God. Even if there is a Sorcerer Supreme, the Demon Gods dare not really do anything, but if the compatibility is poor or the power is unbalanced, it will definitely cause bigger trouble."

"Why on earth would it be like this?" Helen seemed a bit detached, her mind full of the characters on that "Necronomicon". In her imagination, she opened the book and saw an elephant was here now, right in this room.

Must one open the book to see things that ordinary people cannot see?

The moment this dangerous thought appeared, Helen kicked it out of her mind. She took a deep breath, returned to the dormitory with Harley, threw herself into the soft big bed, and then entered dreamland amidst somewhat chaotic thoughts.

After she fell asleep, Harley squatted down, opened the drawer, and took out the large black book that revealed eeriness and terror.

Her fingers reached between the heavy cover and the first page, her knuckles exerted a slight force, and the book was opened.
